    1. I read the link... So... when you are captured... only yourname, rank and number... and the emeny will tell your unit from the coin you carry ;-) ....or do you swallow it before capture?
    2. I assume from the order of the medals on the ribbon bar, MVK, EK and then HK that this bar was not worn on a 3rd Reich military or paramilitary uniform, but on the guys Firemans uniform.
    3. On the left a worked in safety pin, then a long, blood poisoning pin going diagonally down....
    4. Would the order have been right? I think the combattant cross and DSO would be otherwise ordered in there?
    5. I think he may be here... http://www.golf-club-baden-baden.de/club/presidents.php and if you google the name he is somewhere related to GWB... ergo, related to Rick....
    6. Hauptmann d.R, in the 4 Garde Regt zu Fuss in March of 1915..... Any ideas as to who he was, what happened to him?
    7. Can this be a guy who was born in January 1897 and was in the 15th bavarian Inf. Regt in 1918? I have a pile of photos that came with some docs, maybe, just maybethis is the guy whos EK doc it is. What is the device ?
    8. Hi Dan, Do you have the exact relevant passage? I am looking for it but cannot find it. An automatic award to the dead I can find no trace of. I do however have numerous groups where men who were invalided out were awarded the EK after their discharge. best Chris
    9. I have the award docs to the pilot at the top here and would love a good sacn of his photos... index.php.jpg
    10. Suprisingly enough... both books to the Sommer kids (one of them being on Bill Sheas site) WERE in fact cashed in. The thing with these is, each of the recipients had an actual NORMAL bank account opened in his name, this was just a fancy bank book. After the war the Sommer kids took the money out (entered in ball point pen in the book) of the account. As in Mikes book, the accounts were frozen... then after a while they were reopened.
    11. Here you go... http://www.therupturedduck.com/WebPages/Documents/d186.htm
    12. The first post war entry says the account is frozen, the second entry in the 50's allows them to take the money out.
    13. I had two of these years ago, to the sons of a RK winner. I think one is on Bill Sheas site.
    14. I am not so sure of this. There would technically have to be some kind of award documents for these? My understanding is the large death certificates were the visable gratitude of the nation. One step cheaper than the british with their "death penny" and document. I have never, ever seen an award document or Milit?rpass entry for a Posthumous EK?
    15. Really superb. THAT is what this hobby is about !!!!
