History in our hands
Chris Boonzaier replied to kingsman64's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
That is a fantastic little time capsule. It may be a horrible and (if it were my group) possibly a selfish thought, but his death in the airraid rounds it off nicely. I think a group that a collector could really enjoy owning. -

Echt Klasse, wirklich Super..... -
Indeed :-) During the battle the village the 2nd Bavarian Jäger Battalion was the unit that took the village and captured the first French Flag and Machine Gun. The Jäger who captured the flag put it aside to continue the fight and it was picked up later by an infantry section. Type lagarde into german ebay and there are usually 4-5 cards showing the infantry capturing them. It took about a year to find this card with the Jäger on it. I knew they existed, but had never seen one. Here is an account... http://www.kaiserscross.com/69501/547822.html

I am slowly advancing with the project. One thing is clear... I am still lacking space :-( Is it better to cramp things in and get a maximum shown, or leave stuff in the closet and have a nicer display? I must admit, Adler's bunker knocked me off my feet and allowed me to see the limitations of my own bunker, but I comfortaed myself with the thought that I am actually a document collector and these goodies are just to add color. I finished the MG and MW stuff yesterday, will get a photo up tonight.

Very Nice! Although I find the cloak a bit overboard... most students at Hogwarts would as well! :-) Having said that, it is a fantastic cloak!! -

That is a prettttty rare document! A nice find indeed. I wonder if it was for service or bravery? -
OK, the condition is terrible...... OK, I usually avoid anything with moth damage, but I saw this on auction and added up what I would have paid for the silver Gefreiter buttons, the shoulder straps and the Silver Leib Regt buttons.... then I got the set for a bit less than that. EUR161. The hat is conpletely toast... my planning is... the hat is going to have to take one for the team... there is enough cloth there to do some decent repair work. My plan is to get some micro thin blue silk, darn the tiny holes in the tunic, then use bits of cloth from the hat to underlay the bigger holes in the tunic and darn the pieces in. I think it will end up as quite presentable to display with my flag. At some stage i will get a better one, but this will be acceptable once finished.

Damn... I just missed this.... http://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-1-Wk-Soldat-Pickelhaube-Ringkragen-Fahnentraeger-Kettenhund-Orden-LEIB-RGT-/391424361079?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEDWX%3AIT&nma=true&si=uvb3zyEzXst3cJQRyGOheVDcmrc%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc It seems to be the Leib regt Assoc in another city. Looking at this I see the crown was removed from my flag top, it was neatly cut and filed off... maybe in the 3rd Reich period?

I really love these, but to save money I set myself a strict collecting border... only pinbacks. Does not mean I dont find these very sexy! :-)
