The Felt one was probably not issued to a jäger, the name is impossible to read in the rim, but the company number was too high for a Jäger battalion. The officer was in the 2nd and 2nd reserve Jäger battalions...

I wish I could claim some WW1 Family connection, but my Great Grandparents were either still too miffed at the British because of the Boer war on one side, and off in distant places on the other side to get involved.... My Wifes family was full on the game though.... -

What would a realistic price for a metal spade be?

Sounds logical, apparently one of the major objectives was to stop stones and stuff getting into the top of the high shoes... Happens quite often with ankle high boots.
