    3. Thats a nice looking thingy.. were they worn or were they one of those things that never made it out of the stores?
    4. So this base more or less completes a circle and closes a chapter...
    5. Indeed! The lower the rank the less paper they signed (as far as award docs go)So a Hauptmann signature is pretty hard to find. Take a guy like Sepp Dietrich and you trip over his signature at every website. Take Jochen Peiper... and you can look hard....
    6. Apparently at the jewish cemetary in Aschaffenburg there is a grave of a man who won the EK2 and was then killed in 1918. grave of his mother who died in the 20s then a post 45 tomb for the sister and father who were deported in 42 or 43. I have been meaning to visit and do some photos for an article. Best Chris
    7. If I understand correctly, during the war the guys got a citation, this allowdd them to wear a silver star on their victory medal. This happened 20 000 or so times in 1918. Long after the war silver stars were issued. Does anyone know how many WW1 vety actually applied for the stars? Thanks Chris
    8. Nailed it! But a correction... Schuchmann. Was in the 2nd reserve Jägers, maybe MG Kompagnie and not before June 1915. Thanks for the leg up. Chris
    9. As our chinese members would say... it stands for "Great Rystery!" I think the division (the 27th) was national guard?
    10. Hi, major GR Seymour. The US Meuse Argonne offensive covered this area of Verdun (on its right flank), it was the reason the 79th division wore the Croix de Lorraine as their divisional badge. best Chris
    11. Hi, 27th division, but the artillery brigade did not serve with the division. I am guessing this must have logistical reasons, the American Army had their artillery given to them by the French. The 27th division served with the British. Probably for that reason they sent their arty off to a non Brit sector.
    12. Hi, It was on the e-stand years ago. always had it in a drawer meaning to find out where he served.... only this week did I find it was at Verdun. I have the regimental history that I am going to add maps and pics to and put on kaisers cross to add to the US part. Best Chris
    13. The helmet has a rare field made cover to it...
    14. Who would have figured... a Verdun grouping in the US section :-) This is a group of stuff to Major Seymour of the 104th FA. Inspite of the divisional badge on the Helmet this Arty regiment did NOT serve with its division during the war. Instead it served with the 33rd and then 79th division and fought on the old verdun Battlefield,
    15. The problem with most Alpenkorps EK docs is they are signed at company lver and not stamped... Which means, if you want to knoe if it is 1., 2., or 2. Reserve battalion, you have to know who signed it..... Any ideas?
    16. Hi Will, Fantastic as always! Love the bar in the corner of the first pic. How about a better shot of your medal bar and a note of whats on it? Best Chris
    17. HI, thanks. That helps. Were Field Artillery in 2 Battalions? Thanks Chris
    18. Do you plan an leaving any Militaria in the sudan when you leave or will you by then have shipped every button and medal in the country back to the oud transvaal.... ;-) ?
    19. I think that is one of the Ricks dressing up at their last meeting. Give them a bit of a shave, stick him under the shower... then hang medals on his pajamas... And this is what you get!
    20. The remains of the village of Vaux...
    21. In the Fumin Schlucht, the famous "J-Werk"
