Thanks for your nice comments, Richard and Nesredep! Eric - all of the photos except one are glued onto the pages, so I can only find one date on the reverse of post #8. The date is March 1943 (see attached).

Here is my best S-Boot grouping. It is from DKiG winner Gerhard Woszek. The grouping consists of a portrait photo, newspaper clipping regarding the DKiG award, his documents (including his pre-S-Boot badge Destroyer doc), and a great photo album. There are a couple of pages in the photo album devoted to his Flottille sailing down the Danube. Let's see what other S-Boot groupings there are out there!

Gordon, It appears that, as often happens in real life, unattractive physical deficits are overcome by glitzy (in this case fire-gilded) clothing. Erik

Wow, this thread just keeps getting better! Here is my Baqueville U-Boat badge. It has a lot of its finish remaining, but sad to say that this bird probably didn't get too many dates

Although the finishes are not nearly as perfect as Gordon's former First Pattern U-Boat Spange, these still retain a substantial amount of finish.

Here's my "minty" RK zinc Minesweeper. Of interest on this badge is the water, which retains almost all of its dark character.

U-331 (KL von Tiesenhausen) board-made badge mounted on a plaque. U-331 was attached to the 23rd U-Flotilla from October 1941 through April 1942. There are examples of this type of submarine badge being worn by members of the 23rd Flotilla, so it appears to me that this little boat started out as a cap badge and then was later mounted on the plaque.

Here is the 6th or 23rd U-Flotilla tradition badge that I just acquired. The badge is extremely well executed - the on-board artisan at his finest.
