Saw this on Ebay.. They're quite rare and books say that these suit were worn under non-electrical flight clothes.. According a book the connector on the upper back was for the goggles ?? I would presume the flightcap maybe or some hood.., but I don't know.. Any more info about these ? Jos.

It's the same box and like I said, the info I picked up say all these are postwar and as far as I know there's no evidence that these are WW2 ..., plus I wouldn't know how to prove these are WW2, they have no code or markings usually found in bakelite than only the logo.. Jos.

The picture seems to be rather sharp, Mike, would it be possible to make a close-up of the connector ? Jos.

Obviously no matter how many pictures I post in this thread or other threads some people won't change thier minds about short cords. I disagree, I would, but only when I'm convinced by a good shot of it.. Everything about the picture points to being wartime, LKp-N101, Schwimmveste & Bf-110. Who used Bf-110's post war? As far as I can tell it's "no one". We didn't see that 2nd pic.. I believe Francois wanted to see his shoes.?????????????? Mechanic, janitor, pilot, secretary, does it really matter what they are. Agree...,maybe in that case we need a close-up of his belt buckle first..., except for the flightcap and swimmingvest (both used postwar also IMO ),we don't see much to say that it's a wartime pic. Jos.

Hi Bill, I've studied the pic and what I think I see is the side of the leather strap which holds the throatmic and a part of the throatmic.., but at first sight I agree it looks like a short cable with plug.. Like you I also try to find tha pic..., but sofar all we've is " could it be..? "..., very frustrating.. Pete, yes.., my personal thought and also other collector's thoughts were that the cables were cut postwar to use in other planes...., but.....,like I said, a collector opened a plug and all was fine inside..., which indicates they were made this way , sofar in my opinion..., this made some of us curious and we still are, at least I am... So, we've to wait for the right pic and now we pay even more attention to era pics..., but it's not easy sofar and maybe we'll never find out..., but we've to try.. Jos.

Statement : ALL German Luftwaffe flightcaps (should) have a long cable. ( about 1,25 meter / 50 inch ) At least 1000nds of pics only show the long one. There're caps on the market and in collections which have a short cable though. ( about 15-30 cm / 6-12 inch) Were they used in this configuration and by what plane/pilot ?? One collector once opened the connector of a short version and inside the connector all was perfectly in original state, so the cable wasn't cut as we thought ... We've seen few pics,but all were Hmmm.., so, none of them showed exactly what we liked to see.... a clear shot of a pilot with a short cable. Any news ? I'm still curious ... Jos.

Yes John, I've been wondering about the first photo.. We've 2 chances there.. 1. The N&G goggles seems the 2nd rigid type to me.. The goggles might have clear lenses and the Summer model 306 on top of the head has dark lenses. 2. N&G has dark lenses and the 306 has clear..,doesn't make sense, but in that case he had to put up/off his N&G and use the 306...,which makes this combination more complicated, so putting the 306 over the N&G has my vote..., just a bit of a brainstorm,ofcourse.. Now I look again I think the 306 is no 306 but a pair of Leitz..., anyway.. Jos.

Here's what I mean.. Both are wearing a double pair of goggles probably to change from clear to dark lenses..., they just put another larger pair over the N&G.., worked fine I think, even better than working with 2 pairs of N&G or changing lenses... Jos.

One has a number written on.., I also think these tags are for keys or on doors ... Jos.

Just my thought.. I think they're typical WW2, because each FL number represents a typical item in the FL list. So, for example : FL 30550 stands only for N&G goggles... FL 30154 for fighter swimmingvest etc. I can't imagine they used these numbers postwar or they had to make a complete new list with new items.., but I'm not aware of Bundeswehr stuff with FL numbers..,plus if they had them ALL bundeswehr Luftwaffe items should've such FL number,but I've never seen that.. I've seen a Bundes Luftwaffe parachute from the 60's lately and it had a L-number instead of FL .. WW1,between the wars....,no,I think not ,because most FL stuff was invented or produced during WW2 IMO..,but I think we can find very early FL marked items, so I wouldn't know when exactly they started,maybe somewhere before 1936.. There're also LN numbers,like found on throatmics of flightcaps....,meaning they are (signal) Luft Nachrichten items actually.. Don't know about a complete list,but I've seen lists which covered most stuff...,I should've the link somewhere ,...but where ?! Jos.

I think both pairs are OK, I've seen this before,maybe something with the mold..? Are they both same size ? Yes,there are completely foldable N&G goggles,they're of the type with the 2 screws in the nose bridge ,I guess you might be right, 2 of these fit a container IMO. I think changing of lenses from the clear pair to the dark pair was very difficult with the tiny screws etc.. I've some pics were we can see a pilot with clear type N&G and over that pair he wears a "tropical" pair of dustgoggles with dark lenses.. So,I think 2 pairs of N&G both with different lenses was a good solution. Jos.

Well, I watch pictures whenever and where ever I can... I feel it's a must, because, as you will know, in our hobby we've to defend many items.... I'm one of those who like to prove things with era shots when needed,so I've a large database with pictures etc.. Jos.
