From what I have seen, there was quite a number of variations of pug being worn during WWII. Early war some had the WWI type but most had one of a number of multi fold types, which became thinner as the war progressed though they start to become thicker gain towards the wars end as the worries about the Japanese were lessened, Here is one of mine, 1943 dated with the pug band sewn to it, very thin economy version.

I saw this on the British medals forum, what a wonderful end to the story, well done to all involved and hats off to Bonhams. -
RNAS Badge
Jerry B replied to Robert Muse's topic in Great Britain: Militaria: Badges, Uniforms & Equipment
I would assume that both are white metal/zinc alloy or similar and they have been joined together professionally using silver solder. -

As has been already posted, it looks to be two badges joined together as a sweetheart. -

Some interesting photos dated Jan 1946 in West Germany though they appear to be wearing leeks so probably the St Davids day celebration which should be 1st March, though is not always held on the correct day. I have been told it is probably one of the TF bn's. -

1914 "Mons" Star
Jerry B replied to Riley1965's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
I have one from my wish list on its way to me, 2/RWF landed France 13/08/14. Just need to get one for 2/Welsh, though I doubt I will stop there! -

Indeed guys, I am after at least two more to be honest! I collect to the 3 main Welsh regiments, RWF, S.Wales Bords and the Welsh, and as I have one for the Bords, I am after one each for the RWF and the Welsh, though I doubt that will be enough! As regards early entries in France in 1914 two companies of 2/RWF (A&B) landed at Rouen, The Cameronians and 1st Middlesex landed at Le Havre and the 2nd Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders landed at Boulogne all on the 11th August 1914. -

The design of the Flaming Grenade does not look typically British and is perhaps as already mentioned for another nation. -

Thanks, I had a look and there is no sign of solder on the mounting area so it must just be a very poorly neglected example. -

I'll try and take some better pics of the mount. The ring appears to have a silver coloured solder/braze joining it together, but I cannot clearly see how the mount is joined to the edge. I have 17 vm's in total, either parts of trios or pairs or split groups. -

Looks good Rob. I polished a cap badge once, never again. I have quite a few BWM's that came to me tarnished and I have left them that way, I also have some that are so shiney you need shades to look at them, though that is how they would have been when issued. I think a lot of old school collectors were big on polishing and adding new ribbons but I am always trying to fond original ribbon for any of mine with the modern stuff on them, I picked up two short lengths of Mons Star ribbon and one of BWM ribbon on the weekend. I cannot decide if this vm is a chocolate type or just very worn and patinated, what do you think? -
I have had this for many years but I am thinning out some of my collection as I no longer collect in this area so I thought I would show it here before it gets sold. In my experience you do not see many of these fro service in the HG division. He was qualified as a Fernsprecher (phone operator) and saw service on Crete after the invasion and then on Sicily, Salerno and South Italy. It is sadly missing his photograph but contains a lot of information on him and his career. His entries end and as it was a British vet bring back from Italy I assume he was captured or perhaps was KIA. He was with the HG arty regiment, then with the HG div panzer pioneer bn and then with the HG fj panzer div.

1914 "Mons" Star
Jerry B replied to Riley1965's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
I have two 1914 Mons Stars, one on its own, one still with his VM and also VM slit from a Mons star trio. I also have 11 14/15 stars. The Maddocks star has a very early entitlement having landed in France on the first day that British troops officially landed there, though some troops landed in the evening of the day before.
