I have learned from another platform, that West Midlands Police, are holding ceremony next week, during which 30 year bars will be awarded. Curious that these are available already despite the Royal Mint stating that there will be delays whilst they rectify the redesigning of effigy on a number of medals. Further to this, would be interested to learn when the New Years honours medals, will be formally presented. I would assume that these medals had been struck prior to there announcement?

Always makes me think of Foyle’s War 😂 Interestingly, I have been made aware another group of medals, to a chap who also appears in the group photograph, of the 1937 CID course. Insp Leslie George Dolphin Kent Police. Served 31/07/1929 to 01/12/1957, initially with Dover Borough Police. Collar Numbet 643. He is shown on the 1939 Register as a Det Dover Borough Police. Police LSGC issued in 1953. Also served in Cyprus as an Inspector. Medal entitlement GSM Cyprus, WW2 Defence Medal and E11R (1st version) Police LSGC. Died January 1990. Sadly all these medals were sold on EBay, the vendor listing them all separately, for some reason known only to themselves, so the group has been split up 😡, the whereabouts of his LSGC unknown ☹️.

Hi Dave, Thanks for your interest! I agree it is curious that he was issued two LSGC’s, but it’s more common than you would think. I have come across several other examples. I also agree, that it’s great when you can piece together a history, behind the recipient of any medals. Have uncovered some cracking stories over the years. Re any further metallic recognition for the cliff top incident. I am not aware of any further medals, Adam certainly didn’t mention any other awards he’d received. Although I suspect he must have had some sort of recognition for this feat, I suspect it must have been along the lines of a Chief Constables commendation, or something like that. Gordon.

Thought this might be of interest? https://www.polfed.org/news/latest-news ... uct-medal/ Of particular interest is this paragraph… “The Royal Mint is currently in the process of redesigning a number of medals to display the image of King Charles III which could lead to delay for those eligible for a bar.”

I attempted to seek clarification from the Royal Mint under FOI request, and received a very curious response. Which I don’t really understand? Dear FOI, I qualified for my LSGC on the 14th October this year. My question is thus, given my qualification date, will my medal have our new King’s effigy on it, or our former Queen’s effigy? Kind regards, XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. Dear XXXXXXXXXXXXX. We don’t hold any further information in this regard unfortunately. It will be the Police, as issuing authority, who will, we imagine, have a policy on this so you may wish to direct your request to them. Regards FOI

Saw this on another forum, thought it might be of interest? Thread related to the new Border Agency LSGC. Although this medal was authorised earlier this year and draft images show it with the Queen’s effigy. It now appears that it won’t be issued until spring 2023, and will go straight to the King’s effigy… “Just seen a letter stating that the medal will start to be presented in Spring 2023 "...as soon as the portrait of the new King on the Medal has been confirmed and the Royal Mint has done its work.” *Not sure about the choice in colours for the ribbon mind 🤢. https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/820733/response/1975887/attach/2/67821 G Loughney Response.pdf?cookie_passthrough=1

Will certainly be interesting to see what the criteria is. I love a good conspiracy theory 😆, so here’s one for you… Has King Charles decided to have a more reduced Coronation, because he only intends to reign for a few years before handing over the William…… Could we see a repeat of the 1902 -1911 medal situation….
