I believe that’s the miniature, although how it’s attached I couldn’t say. Found another example of the full sized one. (*Note the miniature in this photo is different from the one above?) -

Found this, hope it helps? The ribbon is just to make it easier to remove it from the box, I believe. -
Found this, which I thought might be of assistance? Regiment number issue dates- 24182227 to 24262662 Until September 1971 24262663 to 24302033 Until September 1972 Image is tours conducted by the King’s Regiment. It would appear that Radcliffe would have first deployed on the 01.03.75 - 15.09.76 Londonderry tour?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/King's_Regiment Although the regiment was stationed in Cyprus in the Sovereign Base Area in the 1990’s, I can find nothing to confirm they ever deployed there on the UN mission. Yes I agree, I imagine they are both genuine. I suspect that due to an admin error he was awarded another medal for a subsequent later tour.

Very curious! A little out of my area of expertise I’m afraid. Certainly looks old although the naming is definitely different. If it was a replacement it would be marked as such with an “R” on the rim. Possibly a duplicate award as apposed to anything more sinister. Doubt a King’s regiment medal would merit a fake….. The 1962 reference will be to the General Service Medal 1962 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Service_Medal_(1962

Might be worth contacting https://www.kral.org.uk/ You never know, someone may remember him? He may also be mentioned in the Regimental magazine/journal? There might even be a photograph of him in there… Not sure if the King’s served in Cyprus or not. But if I had to guess if he does have any other medals, it’s more than likely to be this medal or an LSGC. Back in those days there was very little scope for medals, so I wouldn’t at all be surprised to learn this was his sole award.

Found this, which I thought might be of interest? This must be one of the last deployments to Ireland that the regiment did, before being amalgamated? Soldiers from the United Kingdom Stand-By Battalion, The King's Regiment (Liverpool), move out on patrol in Saxon armoured vehicles from Girdwood Barracks in Belfast in July 1998. The Battalion had been airlifted to Belfast from Blackpool at short notice a few days earlier to assist the Royal Ulster Constabulary in controlling sectarian violence at Drumcree and elsewhere during the parade season.

I would also hazard his army number puts him joining in the late 1960’s. In 1972, the King's Regiment, was stationed in West Belfast, Northern Ireland from April 25 to August 25. The regiment's tour of duty was marked by a number of casualties, including. Corporal Alan Buckley: Mortally wounded during an engagement with the PIRA Kingsman Hanley: Shot by a PIRA sniper while guarding a party of Royal Engineers Kingsman Doglay: Killed when an IRA bomb detonated in the battalion headquarters Kingsman Roy Christopher: Severely wounded in an explosion while on patrol, and died after twelve days in hospital
