Happened across this Silver Eagle with what appears to be some sort of discolouration. Wondered whether if is one of the heat damaged examples? “The 2001 silver eagle BU PCGS certified coin was the most common coin found at the vault under the world trade center. It took months to retrieve the coins from the sub-basement where the vault with these coins where located. Some special WTC 2001 Coin to look for would be coins found to display heat marks making the coin black in spots. These coins are often referred as "end roll coins" because they where the last or first coin in a role and these coins would have absorbed most of the destructive power of the falling buildings and the fire that burned at the world trade center.” Would like to hear other collectors opinions. Has anyone got a confirmed heat damaged one, we could compare this with?

Johnny Gleave was very well known figure around St Asaph. He always seemed a very cheerful person. He was brought up in one of the pubs in Chester Street, which his mother ran. -
John W Pierson From Holywell (possibly also served in Flintshire Constabulary, certainly would have been in Gwynedd Constabulary) Lived in Prestatyn. Nick name "The Kraut" Love France was always going over there. Possibly married a German women? Collar number 933 Traffic Sgt in Prestayn at some point Traffic Sgt Prestatyn 1960's and early 1970's Sgt Rhyl (response) 1973 Sgt Prestatyn (response 17th July 1978). Sgt Rhyl (response) 1980's Went to live in France after he retired. Died in a nursing home in Rhyl (had dementia) was in his 90's. Male officer- he was an odd character. Wouldn't go out on his own or deal with anything and got his hair off if we played snooker without him in refs! So many funny tales of his misdoings! I can't remember them all. He had a girlfriend who was a nurse and he was a Francophile. He was always going over there. Female officer - hauled me back from a Christmas Traffic Do once when I had had a couple of drinks lol as he wanted me to finish typing a DPP file. You know what they were like. It was still on the desk all done after Xmas. I was not amused. Having said all that he used to give me Christmas presents every year. Male officer (re nick name) involved a ship that came into Mostyn Dock, mainly German crew, they wanted a person who could translate, i think John was summoned to help deal with it. All hearsay . "Vot ist your name". Male officer - He was a station Sgt when I first moved to Prestatyn. When he was on day shift he would call you back from Prestatyn town centre beat so you could walk with him to his home just further on than the Ffrith Hotel where he was going for his refs. He said if we were stopped by a member of the public you would deal with it. When we arrived at his front door he would radio the station as say he was now on refs. Female officer - Do you remember when he asked us where Gallt Melyd? How we all kept a straight face I don't know. It was when the town signs had Welsh names as well as the English ones. Male officer - I seem to remember John was a pretty hard task master!! Male officer - JP was a bit of a laughing stock really and not much of a bobby at all. He supervised me for a few years and it was not enjoyable. Poor bloke did not have much idea. Having said that I believe he has dementia and is in a home on the Prom in Rhyl somewhere and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Would be interested to hear opinions as to how, what I believe to be a Confederate army snake belt buckle, came to be found the concrete foundations of a property built in 1901 in Queensland Australia? It’s been cleaned up and is in remarkably good condition. I believe these buckles were manufactured in England for the Confederate army but also used on Union troops. Did Australia also use them?

2016 West Point Hoard Silver Eagles (2019)
bigjarofwasps replied to bigjarofwasps's topic in Coins & Commemorative Medallions
Seems to be a pattern forming here... Just recently, the U.S. Mint has sold a small amount of 2017 American Silver Eagles to a few dealers in a blind-bid auction. This inventory was not accounted for in 2017. Instead of "de-trashing" or melting down these coins as normal protocol, the United States Mint has decided to release these coins a whole 3 years after they were minted! This has only been done 1 other time in the 35 year history of the United States Mint! This is being called the 2020 "West Point Hoard" by PCGS. Don't forget, these were released from the Mint 3 years after they were minted, so PCGS has decided to print 2017 and the implied (2020) date on the label. We have a very small amount of these coins certified in perfect grade PR70 with this exclusive "West Point Hoard" Label. In addition to this, each coin has been hand signed by Jim Peed, the longest standing designer at the U.S. Mint. -

******UNIQUE RARE POLICE LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL**** FOR COLLECTORS OF POLICE MEDALS THIS MUST SURELY BE THE SET TO HAVE IN YOUR COLLECTION???? IN 2001 THE QUEENS GOLDEN JUBILEE MEDAL WAS OFFERED TO THE POLICE SERVICE, BUT THE THEN HOME SECRETARY JACK STRAW DECLINED THE MEDAL ON THE POLICE BEHALF. HIS SON HAD NOT LONG BEFORE BEEN ARRESTED FOR SELLING DRUGS? I'M SURE THIS DID NOT INFLUENCE HIS DECISION. HOWEVER, WARWICKSHIRE POLICE OFFICER KENNETH FOWLER DISCOVERED THIS AND ENLISTED THE SUPPORT OF THE POLICE FEDERATION, CHIEF OFFICERS AND MP's AND LOBBIED FOR THE DECISION TO BE OVERTURNED. IT WAS, AND AS A RESULT EVERY POLICE OFFICER, AMBULANCE AND FIRE OFFICER RECEIVED THE MEDAL IN 2002. CONSTABLE FOWLER RECEIVED SCANT RECOGNITION, WITH OTHERS TAKING CREDIT LATE IN 2001. THE POLICE REVIEW MAGAZINE DATED 4th MAY 2001 REVEALS ANOTHER STORY. THIS SET A PRECEDENCE AND IN 2012 THE QUEENS DIAMOND JUBILEE MEDAL, WAS ALSO AWARDED TO POLICE, FIRE & AMBULANCE AND AMONGST OTHERS THE PRISON SERVICE. IN A NUTSHEEL EVERY POLICE OFFICER, FIREFIGHTER, AMBULANCE OFFICER AND PRISON OFFICER RECIPIENT OF THE 2002 & 2012 JUBILEE MEDALS DOES SO BY VIRTUE OF THE EFFORTS OF WARWICKSHIRE POLICE OFFICER KENNETH FOWLER. KENNETH FOWLER NEXT TURNED HIS ATTENTION TO THE AWARD OF THE POLICE LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT AWARD CRITERIA, A MEDAL INSTITUTED IN JUNE 1951. TWENTY-TWO (22) YEARS WAS REQUIRED COMPARED TO THE TWENTY YEARS OF THE AMBULANCE, FIRE AND PRISON LS&GC's. A LETTER FROM KENNETH FOWLER TO THE HOME OFFICER WAS MET BY A "IT WOULD NOT BE ALTERED" REPLY. PURELY WANTING PARITY WITHIN THE U.K. EMERGENCY SERVICES, KENNETH FOWLER LOBBIED CHIEF OFFICERS, THE POLCE FEDERATION, THE SUPERINTENDENTS ASSOCIATION AND MP's. THE SUPPORT IN FAVOUR OF KENNETH FOWLERS REQUEST WAS OVERWHELMING, WITH A VERY SMALL MINORITY INCLUDING CHIEF CONSTABLE PETER FAHY. AN ANNOUNCEMENT IN THE LONDON GAZETTE ANNOUNCED THAT HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II, HAD ALTERED THE QUALIFICATION PERIOD IN RECOGNITION OF KENNETH FOWLERS PLEA FOR PARITY WITHIN THE EMERGENCY SERVICES. KENNETH FOWLER RECEIVED A LETTET OF APPRECIATION ON BEHALF OF THE UNITED KINGDON POLICE SERVICE FOR HIS EFFORTS. KENNETH FOWLER RETIRED FROM WARWICKSHIRE POLICE IN 2015, HAVING SERVED 25 YEARS POLICING NORTH AND SOUTH WARWICKSHIRE AND TWO YEARS OVERSEAS POLICING WITH THE EUROPEAN POLICE. DURING HIS TOUR OF DUTY IN THE BALKANS HE WAS SPECIALLY AWARDED THE NATO SERVICE MEDAL BY THE MULTI NATIONAL MILITARY COMMANDER FOR VOLUNTARY ASSISTING THE NATO ARMY IN THE BALKANS WITH HUMAN TRAFFICKNG, MASS GRAVE IDENTIFICATION AND ILLEGAL LOGGING OPERATIONS. THIS LOT COMPRISES OF POLICE LS&GC EIIR NAMED TO KENNETH FOWLER, ESDP EUROPEAN UNION POLICE MISSION (EUPM) BOSNIA MEDAL NAMED TO KENNETH FOWLER WITH CONFIRMING ISSUE CERTIFICATE. THIS WAS THE VERY FURST ESDP MEDAL EVER ISSUED AND WAS LOCALLY MADE IN BOSNIA. SUBSEQUENT ESDP MEDALS HAVE ALL BEEN MADE BY EEKLERS. THIS ITSELF IS A RARE EXAMPLE OF A FIRST ISSUE (1000) MEDAL. NATO BALKANS MEDAL NAMED TO KENNETH FOWLER WITH CONFIRMING CERTIFICATE. QUEEN'S GOLDEN JUBILEE MEDAL & QUEEN'S DIAMOND JUBILEE MEDAL BOTH UNNAMED AS ISSUED. NO QUEENS POLICE MEDAL UNFORTUNATELY FOR AN OFFICER WHO CHANGED SO MUCH NOT ONLY WITHIN WARWICKSHIRE BUT FOR THE ENTIRE UNITED KINGDOM POLICE SERVICE AND THE UNITED KINGDOM EMERGENCY SERVICES. ALL MEDALS BELONG TO FORMER WARWICKSHIRE POLICE OFFICER KENNETH FOWLER, HAVE NEVER BEEN OUT OF THEIR ORIGINAL BOXES AND ARE OFFERED FOR SALE WITH A WEALTH OF FURTHER SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION AND IMAGES. FURTHER IMAGES AND INFORMATION CAN BE SUPPLIED UPON REQUEST.

In a surprising turn of events, the United States Mint recently announced that they had sold leftover stock of their 2016-W American Silver Eagle proofs in a closed bid sale rather than melting them down - which is standard procedure for excess inventory. The result of this seldom seen closed bid sale from the Mint is what PCGS and NGC are calling the West Point Mint Hoard. The excess 2016 Proof ASE coins that were sold as part of this sale to a 3rd party vendor are the only ones that qualify for this intriguing designation. 30th Anniversary of the American Silver Eagle 2016 marked the 30th anniversary of the American Silver Eagle series, so the pristine proofs we are offering today are not your everyday Silver Eagles. For thirty years, all Silver Eagles featured grooved or “reeded” edges. But the 2016 Silver Eagle Proofs feature a smooth edge with the words “30th Anniversary.” It’s a first-ever addition — one that may never happen again.

Over the years, I’ve slowly added these coins to my collection. Would be interested to see what other dates and examples other collectors have in their collections.

As it currently stands, by the end of calendar year 2020, the U.S. Mint will have produced and released six different American Eagle silver dollars struck with three finishes at three different facilities. The latest releases added to the Mint’s product catalog but without a specific issue date include the Proof 2020-S American Eagle silver dollar. The coin will be offered at $63.25 when it does go on sale and will have no mintage limit or household ordering restrictions. The West Point Mint will be striking the Uncirculated 2020-W American Eagle silver dollar, which will be offered later in the year for $54 per coin. There will be no mintage limit nor household ordering restrictions. The West Point facility is also slated to produce the Proof 2020-W End of World War II 75th Anniversary silver American Eagle dollar. No release date has been announced, but the issue is being limited to a maximum of 75,000 coins at $69.50 each, with a household ordering limit of one coin. The coin bears a V75 privy mark engraved into the master die, with the privy mark appearing in the upper right field of the obverse. The standard Proof 2020-W American Eagle silver dollar was released on Jan. 9 at $64.50 per coin, with no household ordering restrictions or maximum mintage. The remaining two silver American Eagles already produced and available in the numismatic marketplace are two bullion issues struck without Mint mark at two different facilities. The primary output of 2020 American Eagle bullion silver bullion coins was executed at the West Point Mint facility. Because of COVID-19 precautionary measures, the West Point Mint was closed from April 15 to April 21. During the shutdown, production of American Eagle silver bullion coins was shifted to the Philadelphia Mint, which struck 240,000 coins total. American Eagle silver bullion coin production has resumed at the West Point Mint. Collectors seeking an example of the Philadelphia Mint output will have to acquire an example certified by a third-party grading service attesting to the coin having been produced at the Philadelphia Mint. The major grading services are only certifying Philadelphia strikes as such if they are submitted in the original 500-coin boxes in which they were shipped, the box is still sealed and bears the appropriates tracking numbers. All other bullion issues are being certified as West Point Mint releases.
