I saw a lot of belt buckles but never one made of pure copper . Pure copper is most expensive than brass and softer .

Hello , Yes the 35 Pionier Regiment was the first unit specialized in Gas warfare . It was called also Peterson Regiment for the name of the first commander, the Regiment with two Bataillons comprised apart of the gas operating Coys a Meteorological and a Radiotelegraphic Section .probably VFW Schmitt was in charge of the Meteorological .

Brian , Is very accurate your perception of the frightening character imposed to the present pandemia by the constant Artillery barrage or Trommelfeuer of news . and as during a bombardment the only thing to do is to stay in the shelter , I wish that Spring descends promptly over Ontario . Bayern

More than a Tan coloured tunic ,I think in a Field grey one made of cotton cloth . this type was called Feldbluse M36 Drillich. it was lighter in colour and have the stand and fall collar of the wool tunic

During the First World War ,Chivalry was not absent . even on the Eastern Front or better to said that was more current there ,Russian and Austrian Officers Corps were more linked that we can think. The Prussian German Officers too have at least respect for their Russian counterparts. German and French officers at least the Regulars , fought whitout hate . The British and German officers have coldest relationship.

Some place in Bavaria around 1930 ,but before 1933 ,a Reichswehr General is visible at the right, . the cigars heads ,and the pickelhaubes of young people ,lets think in a traditions feast , visible are too some Stahlhelme , and of course the Bavarian General . and the two mature officers , one of Infantry the other apparently of the Seebataillon . apart i want to add a observation . Once ago in the time a friend leased me a Catalogue of Juncker the well known manufacturer of helmets of the year 1931 , surprisingly apart of pickelhaubes for the Swedish and Chilean Armies ,juncker offers almost every type of Imperial helmets . well ,Its clear that many continued using in diverse oportunities the old uniforms among the years comprised between 1919 and 1934

Hello , They looks as some type of Hilfspolizei . the older model of peaked cap , contrasts with the M35 helmets and these itself appears as Kommoder versions made of aluminium . the two troopers apart dont wear chest eagle , the knobelbecher boots are more Russian Ucrainan than German .for more complexity ,the Gorget. the gorget was used also by the standard bearers .

For those of you wondering why Colonel Will has a freakishly huge forehead and generally disproportionately large head in the painting, it's not because he's developed acute cerebral edema. My art history class will now FINALLY come in handy for something.
For centuries in Europe, portrait artists were "expected" to paint their subjects from aristocratic or noble or wealthy families with VERY high foreheads, whether or not they had high foreheads. You see, high foreheads were regarded as a sign that a person was of high and noble birth. Peasants and proletarians on the other hand were supposed to have low foreheads, kind of like neanderthals. The higher the forehead... the more noble a person was supposed to be.
If you google the old portrait paintings of european monarchs and aristocrats and wealthy landowners, you will see what I am talking about. One of the most ridiculously high foreheads can be seen on the portrait of Ferdinand I of Austria. That artist made Ferdinand look like the Martian ambasador from the film "Mars Attacks." Simi.
Simius , Ferdinand I of Austria suffered Hidrocephalia in his childhood and these dolence leaves the patient with a desproportionate height of the skull

Hola , De nada como decimos aca. If the stripe colour is morado that is purple so the Shoulder board is of the Engineering branch .and the rank that of Fanjunkare ,Fahnenjunker in German and Ensign in english . not exactly a Master sargeant but more or less equivalent . the Flygvapnet that means Luftwaffe or Air Weapon ,as many Air Forces except the USAF used to distinct the non Flying branches with colours
