I have a British victory medal - the recipient died also of Spanish flu. It must be cruel for all those man. You are fighting for your life on the battlefield but the death can also get you when you are not fighting.
PS: I had to giggle as I read Damenschneider

A post-war photo featuring a couple of admirals. Can anyone help me ID them?
1 Konteradmiral ?
2 Vizeadmiral Karl Wedding
3 Admiral Reinhard Scheer ?
4 Konteradmiral ?
5 Konteradmiral ?
6 I am not sure if he is an admiral. But I think his sleeve insignia indicates he is also a Konteradmiral? Am I correct? Thanks
Hello ,to me # 2 is Admiral von Hipper and the man at his right side Admiral Scheer . # 6 appears to be a Kommodore . Scheer died in 1928 and Hipper in 1932

Hello If the buttons have a bundle of branches with an axe in the middle ,the fascist emblem , with two branches of foliage surrounding it the uniform may be of a French diplomatic around 1900 . not an ambassador because the ambassadors hat carried white ostrich feathers

Hello Jeff Noll . The Central Powers due to the Blockade suffered atrittion of raw materials , one of them was cotton ,imported before the war from Egypt , wool was also scarse then fine cloth as doeskin was not manufactured the same is valid for gaberdine or tricot . Nearly all textiles manufactured from mid 1916 were made using mixtures of wool with artificial silk ,cellulose based .the scarse cotton was used for other war items as captive balloons .

I believe it to be real. It had been in my father's possession since he inherited it. He past several years ago and didn't know its history either. My 2nd great uncle as in the 5th Dragoon Guards and served in the Egyptian Campaign (1882). Do you think this piece dates back that far?
Hello , I dont think so , It was not before 1884 that Carl Peters begun his explorations of east Africa ,in 1888 a reichskomissar was send with a mercenary force to East Africa and in 1891 was created the Schutztruppe. whose askaris weared the eagle on the fez . but if your great uncle remained in Egypt after 1882 or returned or went to British East Africa after 1891 or to zanzibar may be a connection

Hello , Interesting photo. the Ensign appears to carry a old model of ammo pouch ,black and studded with rivets . the Senior Nco looks like a Feldwebelleutnant and they are in the beginning of Helms ab zum gebet.
