    1. Hello : Nigel Thomas and Ramiro Bujeiro saids : The 21 Mountain Artillery ,15 Prussian , two of Wurttemberg and four Bavarian were grouped into six bataillons . On 21 january 1916 Prussian and Bavarian replaced their M 1914 field grey ski caps with standard field artillery headgear . also saids that Wurttemberg batteries wore the M1914 ski litewka with black collar piping and field grey shoulder straps with black unit insignia .

    2. Hello : to anyone interested in the GSWA campaing and the rebellion i suggests the lecture of the book My vanished Africa .author : Peter W Rainier , a south african who took part in the campaign . he destines a part of the book to the war . he took part as a enlisted man but near the commander of the force General Duncan Mackenzie an old friend of Rainier s father . The author expones well the particular character of the SA army of those years .GSWA campaign was a mounted cavalry one but with wide use of mechanical transport . The book is available at Amazon . Rainier in WW2 was a major Royal Engineers if i am not missed , and responsable of the water supply for the 8th army .he constructed a pipeline to secure that supply .He wrote incirca 1945 an article for the Readers Digest about the water pipeline and saids that when the line was still in proof a german advance captured a section of the pipe and the thirsty soldiers of Rommel drilled holes and in great number drinked the water post facto they got ill because the water was  salt water . Rainier says that he never wasted drinkable water to proof a pipeline . In consequence , appears as he contributed to the victory of El Alamein .

    3. Hello : Knotel and the others said nothing about other piping colour that green , at least for bergmutzen . but as KMB had posted variously piped caps , they existed . I want to remember that during the Weimar era . existed in each infantry division a bataillon of jaegers . from 1925 onwards part of these units were trained and equiped as mountain troops putting at the side the prohibitions of  Versailles treaty . these troops .weared the same bergmutze of WW1 era . returning to the presumptive austrian cap , we had forgottened the swiss army and the finnish army . both weared mountain caps

    4. Hello: Greek army officers were since 1828 instructed at a Academy founded by Capodistrias . but these not excluded the promotion from rank and file . Greece was involved almost endessly in wars .by the end of the 19 th century , the greek army had a system of reserve officers training . the frequency of the commision of rank and file individuals varied according with wartime or peace time exists . I do not know the greek system but i can say you that : In the spanish army of the twenties existed the so called oficiales chusqueros ,Ncos with at least 15 years of service who opposited for a commision as second lieutnant . or in wartime and youngers , acceded to a commision by way of heroism . always under certain bases . dictated by the educative level of the aspirant .By the times of ww2 the greek army was a peacetime one in august of 1940 the 14 divisions of infantry , the cavalry division and the three infantry brigades were partially mobilized with reserve officers .at the outbreak of the war in October of the same year the mobilization was completed recalling inclusive officers forced to the retirement for political reasons on the background of the turbulent politics of the country .during this emergency surely more than one NCO was promoted to second lieutnant . How long long would a second lieutnant stay on that rank during wartime ? The answer is for the duration of the war in most cases . but to all rule existed exceptions . and theses were ruled by the circumstances of the individual and the war .

    5. Hello : Its a burial . and pre war , Belgian are well dressed , the german general and the diplomat wears social dress ,strangely the german pilot is in flight suit . many belgian officers are present and appears to belong to the Belgian Air Force . whose officers used grey blue uniforms . The coffin bearers are soldiers or NCOs ,same the honor guard , the ocassion ? one the re burial of some ww1 german deads , other , the funeral of the crew of a german plane crashed on belgian territory . perhaps in that case the german pilot could be a survivor .

    6. Hello The shoulder board with three birds is uruguayan and not argentinian ; the other shoulder board the wider , is argentinian and for a full dress uniform . is ornamental . and dont carries rank badges . for everyday use the rank badges were those wich appears in the site of insignias . on the cuffs or on shoulder boards . originally the cuff rank badges were black for everyday and gold for dress . and blck on the plain grey blue shoulder boards . The Fuerza Aerea Argentina general officers are called Brigadieres , existed three classes : Brigadier ; Brigadier Mayor and Brigadier General . today wears on the cuffs the bars and rhombus in matt silver colour and on the shoulder boards two to four five pointed siver stars with a mat silver device below an a border around the strap braided also in matt silver . Generally speaking Air force uniforms were not much bright but smart looking from 1945 till 1982 . after the war the Air force decayed . lack of budget lack of flying material etc the uniforms dont scaped to the rule .

    7. Once i read that the use of the skull and bones by prussian hussars after the death of Frederick William 1 . Frederick the Great formed a regiment of hussars the 5th or von Ruesch hussars , and gave to their members small triangular pennons made of black cloth with the skull and bones in white over . the pennons formed part of the mourning decorations at the king s funerals . The hussars founded the banderoles well suited and used them on their mirlitons . Possible ,the Great King was notorious for his economic mind ,he dont likes waste nothing . The skull was too emblem of the british Royal Lancers . the 3rd Cavalry regiment of the chilean Army has the name Hussars and the skull and bones as emblem .

    8. Hasan Rj : Perhaps your grandfather served in the pakistani Army after the partition . the picture looks like taked in a cold place and not in Burma . the slip on tabs on the shoulder straps appears to be the ones used by Viceroy commisioned officers .there were red with a central strip of matt gold . apart VCOs used one to three pips over the straps .

    9. Hello : Really curious ,the General appears to have composed a personal parade dress .Litewka with plain buttons , helm and feldbinde . the alt larisch braid pointed to the back of the collar is tailor mistake ? or a bavarian invention? possible . the bavarians never acepted without reserves the prussian style . As anecdotical I say to the forists that here in Argentina between 1932 and 1941 generals weared the alt larisch braid over a red patch sewed to the closed collar of the white tunic of the summer parade dress only and the braid was pointed to the back .

      Hello John!

I am not really sure of the origin of my Z?szl?s (Warrant Officer) tunic. I was found hidden in the basement among my late grandfathers belongings.

Since he never were a Z?szl?s (Warrant Officer), he went straight to Hadnagy (Lieutenant) after graduating the Ludovika Military (Budapest) academy in 1937.

And I?m still not 100% sure what the purple colour is for military branch.

The tunic is in mint condition and with a nice taylors tag inside. The tag says: N?das ?s Osz?czky - ?ri ?s Egyenruha Szab?k - Budapest, IV Esk? T?r 1. (N?das & Osz?czky - Gentlemen and Uniform taylors, Budapest 4th district Esk? Squere 1.)

Peter The zaslos was not a WO , ranks among the junior officers ,so wears gold buttons , badges and shoulder cords . the Three classes of WO wears silver buttons and badges and shoulder straps in arm of service colour.
