    1. Charles,

in peacetime no Landwehr Cavalry units existed although Landwehr officers of the cavalry branch were held on the strength of their respective Landwehrbezirk (District) and wore the distinctive Landwehr Cavalry officers' uniform. Numerous Landwehr cavalry squadrons were formed at mobilisation and indeed 2 Landwehr Cavalry Regiments - Numbers 1 & 2. Regiments 90-92 were formed in August 1915. The regiments were redesignated as Kavallerie-Sch?tzen-Regiments in August through October 1916.

      Regards

      Glenn

      Glenn,

I greatly appreciate the information you've provided. How were Landwehr units raised? Were men drawn from cavalry units or were there Landwehr cavalry men without a organized unit?

    2. Charles,

I do not have a photo, but somewhere within the last 2-3 weeks I saw a photo that had either this uniform or a field version in it. It was a photo of a group of officers some sitting in chairs, some standing, two enlisted mess orderlies standing on each side. The photo made me think they were having after dinner cigars. In the very front row was an older officer wearing a Landwehr cavalry jacket. I'd never seen one in wear and it was the very distinctive cuffs that caught my eye.

I can't find the photo now. I don't know if it was on this forum, or WAF, or Picklehaubes.com since I cruise all three of them every day. :speechless:

      Mike,

I'll keep my eyes open. I haven't visited Picklehaubes.com in a while. I must say the "Google"ing Landwehr mainly gives 1800 era Landwehr units. The Landwehr must have been a very big deal in the late 1700s and early 1800s...

    3. This thread is soooo old... brought up for Charles' Landwehr Cavalry Leutnant tunic thread, to compare an overaged Lt's possible awards:

and I have to go look for Adam in Berlin's online city directories, which I didn't know about when this was first posted.

Interesting. I wouldn't think the Red Cross medal would precede the Order.

    4. Idiocy.

I don't look at eBay... am I reading this situation correctly and bidder "s***s" with "(1)" is the ONLY bidder?

Bidder "s***s" has s*** for "brains."

A total dumb assk.... He must not have patience to wait for a proper deal. Or, maybe he knows thats the one awarded to Richtofen...

    5. Hello!

Please post some photos and close up.Thank You.

      All the best

That's the problem. I can't get good photos and scans aren't possible because we bought a new scanner and it doesn't work well on medals and stuff like the old one.

    6. Can anyone help me ID a German Luger?

      Date 1914

Serial number on all parts is 4600

On top is ERFURT under a very nicely detailed crown.

Several very small marks. One is an RC under a crown and another is what looks like an old german script L under a different crown than the RC. Maybe more detailed. The may be two other marks but I can't make out what they are.

    7. Not sure what you mean. All are jpg except the originally posted image.

Check out this Captain. He has many grade of the Bravery medal/order.

Question, what determine the grade of the order? Was it rank or was it similar to the French Legion of Honor where a person received a higher grade each time they were awarded the same order?
