Despite his injuries, he refused leave his post for medical assistance and stayed to carry out his duties. On March 17, 1945 while in combat and attached to 1013th Rifle regiment 285th Rifle division he located 4 enemy gun batteries in the vicinity of Bauschdorf, which were suppressed by fire from our brigade which further secured our units. On March 18, 1945 he delivered combat orders from staff 285th Rifle division under intense machine-gun fire to the headquarters of his brigade, which allowed unit in advance to repel flanking attack in direction of Floste. In combat for the city of Neiße 23 to 26 March located and plotted 3 enemy artillery batteries whose fire was concentrated on our troops in the vicinity of Ober. Thanks to his precise information, the batteries were suppressed by the fire of our brigade. In combat with the enemy he has shown courage and initiative. Deserves governmental award order “Patriotic war 2nd class”

Next up is some type of merchant fleet anniversary badge but my basic (and very rusty) Russian cannot work out what it all means. If any cunning linguists out there could help I would appreciate it. I think the badge is for 10 years shipping without accident. regards Andreas

Looks like a OGPW 2nd class and an OGPW 1st class 85 Version and he wears a medal for capture of K?nigsberg. regards Andreas

Doc the first badge you postetd is a : Polytechnic school of Arts and Human Sciences dark blue enamel the same badge with light blue is for a Pedagogical school - (Pedagogicheskoe Uchilische) - Teachers College. Have a look on Igors page he has dark blue onces and light blue ones. The 4 sided badges are university level and the 6 sided badges are a level lower (like a advanced technical college, or Polytechnic school) best regards Andreas below is a picture to see the colour differences in blue.

Finally research came back. I will post the rest when the documents are translated. Here are a few parts. He was a Major in the 9th Artillery Divison. Besides his two medals Military Merit and Victory over Germany he has two further medals (??). Not mentioned in his award card. He was from 1936 to 1946 in the Army. He took part in the battle of lake Hasan (see badge on his brest). His nice picture:
