The silver cross (5th category) was created in 1903. Teh Regulations of 1931 comprises this class but with the folllowing design: the cross bears a Olympic crown of olive, formed of four equal arms of silver, in the center of the obverse superimposed a circular shield, it looks two columns and two globes or worlds, bound with ribbon and covered both with an imperial crown, filling the field of the shield of light rays, starting from the same balloons, extending in all directions. In the exergue, and field blank, gold lettering read the following legend: A LA LEALTAD ACRISOLADA. SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 251.01 RULES FOR HONOURS, AWARDS AND DECORATIONS 10th July, 1990 LEGAL NOTICE 105 of 1990, as amended by Legal Notices 178 of 1994, 162 of 1995 and 222 of 2009. GENERAL PROVISIONS 1. The title of these rules is Rules for Honours, Awards and Title. Decorations. 2. In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires -Interpretation. "the Act" means the Gie] ir-Repubblika Act; Cap. 251. "the Chancellor" means the Chancellor of the Xirka and of the Order established by the Act; "the Registrar" means the Registrar of the Xirka and of the Order established by these Rules; and expressions occurring also in the Act have the same meaning as they have in the Act. 3. The Chancellor shall -Chancellor. (a) record all important proceedings relating to the Xirka and the Order and shall enter such proceedings in books kept for the purpose; (b) cause every appointment to the Xirka and the Order and any termination of any such appointment to be published in the Gazette; © on the directions of the Head of the Xirka and of the Order, organise the investitures and other functions of the Xirka and the Order. 4. In terms of article 19(3) of the Act, there shall be a Registrar. The complete oval centre is partly contained within a border of green enamel olive leaves and is surmounted by a falcon with outstretched wings and holding a scroll in its claws reading "1975"; (b) A Sash Badge which is an enlarged version of the centre piece contained on the Breast Star and measuring overall 102mm by 70mm approximately; © A Sash, 102mm wide, incorporating a wide band of red, 90mm in width, between narrow white stripes measuring 6mm, the whole having a moire effect. When the Insignia are worn by a lady the sash measures 63.5mm in width: Provided that honorary members in this grade who are Heads of State of their respective countries at the time of their appointment shall also be entitled to wear the Sash Badge suspended from a Collar 1000mm in length and 24.5mm in width, consisting of two silver gilt chains 4.5mm in width held together by five white and red enamelled discs 25mm in diameter, alternating with five white enamelled Maltese Crosses 26.5mm in diameter and five black enamelled discs 25mm in diameter incorporating 24mm wide silver gilt crowns with five turrets; green enamelled branches of olive and palm, one placed on either side of the white and red enamelled discs and silver gilt circles. (2) For Companions (a) A Breast Star, 70mm in diameter, similar to that of the Companion of Honour, but without the rayed backing; and (b) A Neck Badge, similar in design to the Breast Star but 57mm in diameter, suspended from a neck riband similar to the Sash of Companions of Honour but 18mm in width. When worn by a lady a riband of 32mm is fashioned into a bow with tails: Provided that the insignia for honorary members in this grade shall consist only of the Neck Badge unless the Breast Star together with the Neck Badge is conferred as a further mark of distinction. (3) For Officers A Breast Badge similar to the Neck Badge of Companions but 45mm in diameter, suspended from a riband similar to the Sash of Companions of Honour but 38mm wide. When worn by a lady the riband is fashioned into a bow with tails. (4) For Members A Breast Badge similar to that of Officers but with the Maltese Cross in silver instead of enamel. 8. The Midalja g]all-Qlubija takes the form of a silver medal 40mm in diameter. The obverse depicts in relief the Emblem of Malta superimposed on a representation of the rays of the sun. The reverse contains in relief, and surrounded by a wreath, a geographical representation of the Maltese Islands below which is the inscription "G]all-Qlubija", all superimposed on a representation of the rays of the sun. Specific rules. 10. Rules concerning the design and the awarding of National Commemorative Medals shall be made for each occasion that an event is to be commemorated. Long and Efficient 11. The Long and Efficient Service Medal shall be circular, in Service Medal. cupro-nickel, and 36mm in diameter, bearing on the obverse the Emblem of Malta in relief and on the reverse in relief the Maltese Cross within a wreath of laurel encircled by the words "G]al Servizz Twil u Effi`jenti"; the whole is suspended from a bar. QUALIFYING SERVICE FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MEDALS AND LONG AND EFFICIENT SERVICE MEDALS 12. (1) Long and Efficient Service Medals shall be awarded to all serving members of the Armed Forces of Malta, the Malta Police Force and the Malta Prison Service completing an aggregate of 18 years efficient service with irreproachable character and conduct throughout. (2) Clasps are to be awarded following an additional aggregate of another 7 years and then another 5 years efficient service with irreproachable character and conduct throughout. (3) The officers commanding the disciplined forces shall recommend only those who have proved themselves in every way worthy of this distinction during the whole of their service. 12A. (1) Distinguished Service Medals shall be awarded in those cases the Minister responsible for the particular disciplined force, on the recommendation of the officer commanding the force, so decides. (2) The recommendation mentioned in sub-rule (1) shall be made in writing and the officer commanding the force shall set out the detailed reasons for the recommendation, provided that such recommendation shall only be made when the officer has: (a) in the opinion of the officer commanding the force, shown exceptional motivation and resolve; and (b) has not received a warning or charge during the period of two years prior to the recommendation. (2) The Neck Badge of the Order shall be worn suspended from a riband around the neck. (3) Medals shall be worn on the left breast. (4) Ribbons may be worn without the Insignia or Medals on appropriate occasions. These shall be the same as the ribands prescribed for the Insignia or Medals, but shall be approximately 10mm in depth. (2) A Maltese citizen shall not, in Malta, wear the insignia of any order or any decoration of a country other than Malta, even though such insignia are or decoration is recognised in terms of article 29 of the Act, unless he wears such insignia or decoration after the insignia or after the medals awarded under the Act: Provided that a Maltese citizen attending an official function of the Head of a foreign State or Sovereign Order, or of the Head of Government of a foreign State or of a Sovereign Order, or of the representative of a foreign State or Sovereign Order accredited to Malta, at which the wearing of the insignia of orders and decorations is customary may, as an act of courtesy to his host, give precedence to the insignia of orders or decorations of that State or Sovereign Order. INVESTITURES AND PRESENTATIONS 15. (1) Appointments to the Xirka and appointments to or Investiture. promotions within the Order, as well as awards of Medals, with the exception of Long and Efficient Service Medals, shall normally be made by the President at a formal ceremony of investiture. (2) The President may, however, on the advice of the Prime Minister, delegate a Minister or the principal diplomatic representative of Malta in a foreign country to make the appointment, promotion or award in his name. (3) When presenting the Insignia or Medal to the recipient, the President shall address him as follows: "On behalf of the Government and people, I confer on you either the Insignia of the Xirka ta' Gie] ir-Repubblika. or the Insignia of a ............... (name appropriate grade) of the National Order of Merit. or the Midalja g]all-.............. (whichever is appropriate) or the National Commemorative Medal to mark ........... ", according to the appropriate form. (4) When the Insignia or Medal is being awarded in the name of the President the recipient should be addressed as follows: "In the name of the President of Malta, and on behalf of the Government and people of Malta, I confer on you either the Insignia of the Xirka ta' Gie] ir-Repubblika. or the Insignia of a .................. (name appropriate grade) of the National Order of Merit. or the Midalja g]all-............... (whichever is appropriate) or the National Commemorative Medal to mark ......................", according to the appropriate form. (5) Together with the Insignia the recipient shall be presented [s.L.251.01 HONOURS, AWARDS AND DECORATIONS DistinguishedService medalsand Long and Efficient Service medals. S.L.Const.02 Cap.113. with the instrument of appointment or promotion, signed, countersigned and sealed as provided for in article 25 of the Act. (6) Whenever the advice to the President for the appointment of a person as a member of the Xirka or of the Order contains, or is accompanied by, a citation concerning the recipient, such citation shall be read out by the Chancellor (or by such other person as may be appropriate in the circumstances) immediately before the conferment of the Insignia. The citation shall also be recorded in the appropriate register. (7) Together with the Midalja ghall-Qlubija there shall be presented to the recipient the citation of the act of bravery. Such citation shall be read out immediately before the presentation of the Medal. In the case of other Medals an appropriate certificate shall be presented. 16. (1) Distinguished Service Medals and Long and Efficient Service Medals shall normally be presented by the Minister responsible for a specific disciplined force. (2) The officer commanding the force may, however, be delegated by the Minister to represent him. TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP AND REVOCATION OF AWARDS 17. (1) A motion for a Resolution of the House of Representatives for the termination of membership or revocation of the award of a medal in terms of article 23(1)© of the Act shall state the grounds on which the motion is based. (2) Whenever notice is given under the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives of a motion as is referred to in sub-rule (1), the Clerk of the House shall, without delay, send a copy of the motion to the Members of the House, and cause another copy to be served on the person named in the motion. (3) Where the person named in the motion resides in Malta, the service of a copy of the motion shall be effected as provided in article 5(3) of the House of Representatives (Privileges and Powers) Ordinance; and where the person named in the motion resides abroad, the service shall be effected by letter sent by registered mail to his last known private or official address and the copy shall be deemed to have been duly served on the day immediately succeeding the day on which the letter would be received in the ordinary course by post; and in proving such service it shall be sufficient to prove that the letter containing a copy of the motion was properly addressed and posted. (4) The Resolution shall not be moved in the House before sufficient time has been allowed to the person named in the motion to prepare his defence and to appear before the House; but in the case of a person residing in Malta a period of seven days shall be deemed to be sufficient for the purposes aforesaid. (5) The person named in the motion shall be given an opportunity to appear before the House and to defend himself; he may also be assisted by an advocate or by a friend. (6) If the Resolution is passed the Clerk shall forward a copy thereof to the President who shall thereupon terminate the appointment, or revoke the award, as the case may require, by means of an instrument sealed with the seal of the Xirka or of the Order as appropriate, and shall cause notice thereof to be given to the person named therein. (7) Upon the termination of an appointment or the revocation of an award as aforesaid, the Chancellor or Secretary to the Cabinet, as the case may be, shall cause the appropriate entries to be made in the registers and shall publish the notification of such termination or revocation in the Gazette. FOREIGN HONOURS AND DECORATIONS 18. A request for the written authority of the President required by article 29 of the Act shall be made in writing and shall be referred to the Chancellor. It shall contain all the relevant particulars of the honour, award, decoration, membership or office intended to be bestowed and of the intended recipient, and shall be signed by the principal diplomatic representative of the State or Sovereign Order requesting the authority of the President or by such other officer of such State or order as may be specially authorised for the purpose. SEALS OF THE XIRKA AND OF THE ORDER 19. (1) The Seal of the Xirka shall be a circular seal consisting of a representation of a Maltese watch tower (gardjola) within a border containing the words "{IE}IR-REPUBBLIKA - MALTA". (2) The Seal of the Order shall consist of a circular seal consisting of a representation of the Sash Badge of a Companion of the Order as described in Rule 7(1)(b), within a border containing the words "VIRTUE ET CONSTANTIA - MALTA". 20. (1) The Head of the Order shall be entitled to wear the Sash Badge of a Companion of Honour suspended from a Collar as described in rule 7(1)(b). (2) The Chancellor of the Order shall be entitled to wear as a decoration the Neck Badge of a Companion of the Order. (3) The Registrar of the Order shall be entitled to wear as a decoration the Breast Badge of an Officer of the Order. No. 54) Honours and Awards for the Republic of Zambia WHEREAS by Proclamation No. 6 of 1965 certain Honours and Decorations were instituted and created for the Republic: AND WHEREAS I am satisfied that it is necessary and desirable to revise certain provisions contained in that proclamation that- NOW THEREFORE, I FREDRICK JACOB TITUS CHILUBA, President of the Republic of Zambia, do hereby declare and proclaim that- (a) the description of the insignia of the Order of the Grand Companion of Freedom is amended by the deletion of that description and the substitution therefore of the description of the Order of the Grand Companion of Freedom as set out in the Schedule to this Proclamation; (b) the description of the insignia of the Order of Distinguished Service is amended by the deletion of that description and the substitution therefore of the description of the Order of Distinguished Service as set out in the Schedule to this Proclamation; © there is hereby instituted and created the honours to be known as- (i) “The President’s Insignia of Honour”; (ii) “The President’s Insignia of Mercy”; (iii) “The President’s Insignia of Meritorious Achievement”; (iv) “The President’s Insignia of Recognition”; (v) “The National Award for Excellence in Science and Technology”; (vi) “Certificate of Achievement”; and (vii) Certificate of Recognition”; © Proclamation No. 6 of 1965 contained in Statutory Instrument No. 347 of 1965 is Accordingly amended as set out in the Schedule to this Proclamation. SCHEDULE 1. Honour No. 4 is amended under the heading The Fourth Division by the deletion of the description of the Insignia of the Order of the Grand Companion of Freedom and the substitution therefore of the following: The insignia of the First Division of the Order of the Grand Companion of Freedom shall be a four-pointed sun-burst in gilt worn at the left breast, and at its centre in gilt shall be the Zambian Coast of Arms surrounded by a ring of scarlet enamel bearing in white enamel the words “Grand Companion of Freedom”, all supported by a spray of laurel leaves. An emerald gemstone shall be embedded to the left and to the right of the Zambian Coat of Arms. Over the right shoulder and joined at the left hip shall be a riband four inches in width, of scarlet with a strip of black one inch in width running longitudinally. The riband shall be joined at the hip by the Badge of the Order. The Second Division insignia shall be as for the First Division, but in silver gilt embedded with one emerald below the Coat of Arms, three inches in diameter and suspended by a clasp of the Eagle of Zambia from the Riband of the Order which shall be two inches wide and worn around the neck. At the left breast shall be worn the Badge of the Order in silver gilt. The Third Division insignia shall be as for the Second Division except that the Badge of the Order shall be in bronze and the Badge shall not be worn at the left breast. The Fourth Division insignia shall be a Riband of the Order two inches in width suspended from which shall be the Badge of the Order in bronze two inches in diameter and worn at the left breast. 2. Honour No. 5 is amended under the heading the Fourth Division by the deletion of the description of the insignia of the Companion Order of Freedom and the substitution therefore of the following: The insignia of the First Division shall be a four-pointed sun-burst in gilt With eagles in the four diagonals corners, at the centre of which shall be the Zambian Coat of Arms surrounded by a scroll in which shall be enamelled in black the words “Companion Order of Freedom” with an aquamarine gemstone embedded immediately before the word “Companion”, and immediately after the word “Freedom” all supported by a scarlet enamelled background, and shall be worn at the left breast. Worn from the right shoulder and joined at the left hip by the Badge of the Order shall be a riband of watered silk four inches in width of scarlet with two black stripes half an inch wide running longitudinally half an inch from each edge. The Second Division insignia shall be the Badge of the Order, three inches in diameter in silver gilt and embedded with one aquamarine gemstone in its circumference at the bottom, suspended from the Riband of the Order, two inches wide and worn about the neck. At the left breast in silver gilt shall be the Badge of the Order. The third Division insignia shall be as for the Second Division but the Badge shall be of bronze and the Badge shall not be worn at the left breast. The Fourth Division insignia shall be the Riband of the Order, two inches wide, suspended from which shall be the Badge of the Order in bronze, two inches in diameter and worn at the left breast. 3. Honour No. 6 is amended under the heading The Fourth Division by the deletion of the description of the insignia of the Order of Distinguished Service and the substitution therefore of the following: The insignia of the First Division shall be an eight-pointed star five inches in diameter of gilt at centre of which shall be the Zambian Coat of Arms around which shall be an enamelled ring in orange bearing the words “Distinguished Service: Republic of Zambia”, in black enamel, embedded with a tourmaline gemstone immediately before the word “Republic” and immediately after the word “Zambia” and shall be worn at the left breast. A riband of watered silk and four inches wide in dark blue at the edges of which shall be orange strips half an inch wide, shall be worn over the right shoulder and joined at the hip by the Star of the Order. The Second Division insignia shall be the Badge of the Order, three inches in diameter in silver gilt suspended from the Riband of the Order, two inches wide and worn about the neck. At the left breast in silver gilt shall be the Badge of the Order. The Second Division insignia shall be embedded with one tourmaline gemstone at the bottom. The Third Division insignia shall be as for the Second Division but the Badge shall be of bronze and the Badge shall not be worn at the left breast. The Fourth Division insignia shall be the Riband of the Order, two inches wide suspended from which shall be the Badge Order, in bronze two inches in diameter and worn at the left breast. 4. The following new honours and descriptions are inserted immediately after the the description of Honour No. 7: 8. THE PRESIDENT’S INSIGNIA OF HONOUR shall comprise one division only and shall be awarded to residents of Zambia who rendered valuable services worthy of special recognition and to those who, by their loyal and meritorious conduct, have been of exceptional benefit to the country. The medal shall be bronze depicting the Schalow’s Turaco bird (Nduba or Ndubaluba) in flight, 9. THE PRESIDENT’S INSIGNIA MERCY Shall comprise one division and shall be awarded to Zambians and foreigners who perform acts of mercy to people in need in a single act. The medal shall bear a picture of a mother clutching a baby in her bossom, surrounded by blue enamel with the words “President’s Insignia of Mercy” in its circumference, on the obverse. The insignia shall be silver in colour and attached to a ribbon in blue and black. 10. THE PRESIDENT’S INSIGNIA OF MERITORIOUS ACHIEVEMENT shall comprise one division and shall be awarded to persons who have distinguished themselves in any field. The medal shall be silver in colour, bear head of an elephant on the obverse and be attached to a riband in red and green. 11. THE PRESIDENT’S INSIGNIA OF RECOGNITION Shall comprise one division and shall be awarded to persons who through their inventiveness and initiative have contributed to the well being of the community in which they live. The medal shall be in brass, bear a picture of the Honey Guide bird perched on a branch bordered by a cluster of laurel leaves, the words “President’s Insignia of Recognition” and an amethyst gemstone embedded at the bottom of its circumference, on the obverse. 12. THE NATIONAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY shall comprise one division and shall be awarded to individuals whose works represent a contribution of the highest distinction to the advancement or development of science and technology in Zambia. The medal shall be gold in colour, of gilt and bear the inscription “Award for Excellence in Science and Technology” along the circumference of the obverse, with the following signs in the centre of the face: atomic orbits, a protein structure, the mathematical symbol, a mine shaft and a roller. 13. CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT The Certificate shall bear the Zambian Coat of Arms with a one length border on the left hand side in national colours and the President’s Seal and signature. The Certificate shall be awarded to non-school going, unemployed youth, below the age of thirty-one years, for significant contribution to the conservation of the environment, or protection of wildlife or to the development of agriculture. 14. CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION The Certificate shall bear the Zambian Coat of Arms and a diagonal line in national colours on the bottom corner and the President’s Seal and signature. The Certificate shall be given to a youth in recognition of contribution to music, literature, sport or other forms of fine and performing arts by that youth. 6. Honour numbers 8,9,10,11012,13,14,15,16 and 17 respectively are hereby renumbered as Honour numbers 15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23 and 24 respectively. HONOURS (FIRE SERVICES) WARRANT [L.N. II of 1974.] under section I [28th February, 1974] There are hereby established for the fire service the following medals, namely- (a) the Nigerian Fire Service Cross; (b) the Meritorious Service Medal; and © the Long Service Medal. Form of medals, etc. (l) The Nigerian Fire Service Cross- (a) shall consist of a Maltese Cross of bronze metal with the outer edges joined by coiled ring, having, on the obverse, in the centre, a shield similar to that forming part of the arms of the Federal Republic, the shield being surrounded by laurel wreath and the uppermost arm of the cross having on it two crossed fireman's axes and an emblematic design of a fire helmet at the top, with the inscription, in the centre, "FOR GALLANTRY"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon one and a quarter inches wide divided later- ally into seven divisions of which the first and seventh shall each be five sixteenths of an inch wide and shall be dark blue, the second and sixth shall be one sixteenth of an inch wide and shall be dark green, the third and fifth shall be three sixteenths of an inch wide and shall be dark red, and the fourth shall be one sixteenth of an inch wide and shall be white. (2) The Meritorious Service Medal- (a) shall consist of a circular disc of silver-plated metal having, on the obverse, the arms of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and on the reverse, in the centre, the emblematic design of a fire helmet under which are two crossed fireman's axes and surrounded with two fire hoses which are joined at the bottom, all surrounded by two branch pipes around which are the words "FOR MERITORI- OUS FIRE BRIGADE SERVICE"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon one and a quarter inches wide divided later- ally into five divisions of which the first and the fifth shall each be three eighths of an inch wide and shall be dark blue, the second and the fourth shall each be one sixteenth of an inch wide and shall be dark green, and the third shall be three eighths of an inch wide and shall be dark red. (3) The Long Service Medal- (a) shall consist of a circular disc of silver-plated metal having, on the obverse, the arms of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and on the reverse, in the centre, the emblematic design of two firemen in fighting fire positions holding a charged length of hose, surrounded by the words "FOR LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon one and a quarter inches wide divided later- ally into five divisions of which the first and the fifth shall each be one quarter of an inch wide and shall be dark blue, the second and the fourth shall each be five sixteenths of an inch wide and shall be dark red, and the third shall be one eighth of an inch wide and shall be yellow.

HONOURS (PRISON SERVICES) WARRANT under section 1 [14th April, 1972] (1) There are hereby established for the prison service the following medals, namely- (a) the Nigeria Prison Service Cross; (b) the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal; and (d) the Meritorious Service Medal. 6. Form of medals, etc. (1) The Nigeria Prison Service Cross- (a) shall consist of a Maltese Cross of silver metal with the outer edges joined by coiled ring, having, on the obverse, in the centre, a shield similar to that forming part of the arms of the Federal Republic, the shield being surrounded by a laurel wreath and the uppermost arm of the cross having on it a representation of an eagle, and on the reverse, the words "FOR GALLANTRY" in the centre and "THE NIGERIA PRISON SERVICE" at the upper arm of the cross; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon one and a quarter of an inch wide divided laterally into five equal divisions of which the first shall be yellow, the second and fourth blue, the third green with a red stripe one sixteenth of an inch wide running along its centre, and the fifth yellow. (2) The Long Service and Good Conduct Medal- (a) shall consist of a circular disc of silver-plated metal having, on the obverse, the arms of the Federal Republic surrounded by the words "FEDERAL REPUB- LIC OF NIGERIA" and on the reverse a representation of a phoenix rising from a flame and looking towards the sun, the representation being surrounded by the words "NIGERIA PRISON SERVICE: FOR LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon, one and three eighths of an inch wide, divided laterally into three equal divisions of which the first and third shall be khaki and the second rifle-green, with a silver stripe one eighth of an inch wide running down its centre. (3) The Meritorious Service Medal- (a) shall consist of a circular disc of gold-plated metal having on the obverse the arms of the Federal Republic surrounded by the words "NIGERIA PRISON SERVICE: FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon one and three eighths of an inch wide divided laterally into three equal divisions of which the first shall be khaki, the second gold and the third rifle-green.

HONOURS (POLICE) WARRANT [L.N. 31 of 1966.] under section I [i st October, 1965] (1) There are hereby established for the police force the following medals, namely- [L.N. 36 of 1979.] (a) the Nigeria Police Star (b) the Meritorious Service Medal; © the Special Constabulary Medal (d) the Long Service Medal; 7. Form of medals, etc. (l) The Nigeria Police Star- (a) shall consist of a Maltese Cross of silver metal with the outer edges joined by coiled ring, having, on the obverse, in the centre, a shield similar to that forming part of the arms of the Federal Republic, the shield being surrounded by a laurel wreath and the uppermost arm of the cross having on it a representation of an eagle, and on the reverse, the words "FORGALLANTRY" in the centre and "THE NIGERIA POLlCE" at the upper arm of the cross; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon one and a quarter inches wide divided later- ally into five equal divisions of which the first shall be yellow, the second and fourth blue, the third, green with a red stripe one sixteenth of an inch wide running along its centre, and the fifth yellow. (2) The Meritorious Service Medal- (a) shall consist of a circular disc of silver-plated metal having, on the obverse, the arms of the Federal Republic, and on the reverse, in the centre, the emblematic design of the Nigeria Police Force surrounded by the words "NIGERIA POLlCE FORCE FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon one and a quarter inches wide divided later- ally into three divisions of which the first and third shall be of equal size and shall be dark blue and dark green respectively, and the second, one eighth of an inch wide, shall be yellow. (3) The Long Service Medal- (a) shall consist of a circular disc of silver-plated metal having, on the obverse, the arms of the Federal Republic and, on the reverse, in the centre, the emblematic design of the Nigeria Police Force surrounded by the words "NIGERIA POLlCE FORCE FOR LONG SERVICE"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon, one and a quarter inches wide, divided later- ally into five equal divisions of which the first and fifth shall be dark green, the second and fourth dark blue and the third yellow. (4) The Special Constabulary Medal- a shall consist of a circular disc arms of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and, on the reverse, in the centre, the emblematic design of the Nigeria Police Force surrounded by the words "NIGERIA POLICE SPECIAL CONSTABULARY FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon one and a quarter inches wide divided later- ally into three divisions of which the first and third shall be of equal size and shall be dark green, and the second, one eighth of an inch wide, shall be yellow.

NIGERIA [20th September, 1965] There are hereby established for the armed forces the following medals, namely- (a) the Nigeria Star; (b) the River Niger Star; © the River Benue Star; (d) the Nigeria Eagle; (e) the Distinguished Service Medal; if) the Loyal Service and Good Conduct Medal; (g) the Forces Service Star. 7. Form of medals, etc. (I) The Nigeria Star- (a) shall be of solid gold of the shape shown in the Schedule of this warrant, having in the centre the arms of the Federal Republic surrounded by the words "FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA: FOR V ALOUR", and (b) shall have attached to it a scarlet ribbon having embroidered thereon in gold a small representation of an eagle. (2) The River Niger Star- [schedule.] (a) shall be of gold-plated metal of the shape shown in the Schedule of this war- rant having, in the centre, two crossed swords surmounted by a representation of an eagle, the swords and eagle being surrounded by the words "FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA: FOR BRAVERY"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon divided laterally into five equal divisions of which the first and fifth shall be red, the second navy blue, and third khaki, and the fourth air-force green. (3) The River Benue Star- (a) shall be of silver-plated metal of the shape shown in the Schedule of this war- rant having, in the centre, a representation of a warrior drawing a bow, the representation being surrounded by the words "FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA: FOR GALLANTRY"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon divided laterally into nine equal divisions of which the first, third, seventh and ninth shall be green, the second and eighth white, the fourth and sixth black, and the fifth red. (4) The Nigerian Eagle- (a) shall consist of a circular disc of gold-plated metal of the shape shown in the Schedule of this warrant having, on the obverse, a representation of an eagle surrounded by the words "FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA" and on the reverse, the words "FOR BRA VERY IN ACTION" surrounded by the words "NIGERIAN ARMED FORCES"; and (b) shall have attached to it a shiny black ribbon. (5) The Distinguished Service Medal- (a) shall consist of a circular bronze disc of the shape shown in the Schedule of this warrant having, on the obverse, the arms of the Federal Republic sur- rounded by the words "FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA" and, on the re- verse, the words "FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE" surrounded by the words "NIGERIAN ARMED FORCES"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon divided laterally into five equal divisions of which the first and fifth shall be blue, the second and fourth black, and the third, red. (6) The Loyal Service and Good Conduct Medal- (a) shall consist of a circular disc of silver-plated metal of the shape shown in the Schedule of this warrant having, on the obverse, a representation of the map of Nigeria surrounded by the words "FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA", and, on the reverse, the words "FOR LOYAL SERVICE AND GOOD CON- DUCT" and surrounding those words the number, rank and name of the holder and the words "NIGERIAN ARMED FORCES"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon divided laterally into five equal divisions of which the first shall be dark blue, the second and fourth white, the third red and the fifth sky-blue. (7) The Forces Service Star- [schedule.] (a) shall consist of a circular nickel disc of the shape shown in the Schedule of this warrant having, on the obverse, a five-pointed star surrounded by the words "FOR RECOGNISED SERVICE" and, on the reverse, surrounding a blank central space, the words "FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA"; and (b) shall have attached to it a ribbon divided laterally into five equal divisions of which the first and fifth shall be blue, the second and fourth green, and the third, white. (8) Each of the ribbons mentioned in the foregoing paragraphs shall be 11,4 inches wide. (9) Every service medal shall be worn suspended by its ribbon from the left breast of the outer garment of its wearer. 8. Miniatures and ribbons The holder of any service medal may, when not wearing the medal itself, wear on the left breast of his outer garment- (a) a miniature reproduction of the medal (and of any bar or clasp thereto which has been awarded to him) of such size and pattern as may be approved by the President; or (b) a piece of ribbon of the same width and design as the ribbon attached to the medal, bearing, in the case of a person who has been awarded one or more bars or clasps to the medal, the corresponding number of miniature reproductions of the bar or clasp of such size and pattern as may be approved by the President.

FIJI REPUBLIC MEDAL DECREE NO. 42/1988 Description 6. - (1) The Medal shall be silver and gold and oval in shape, bearing on the obverse two crossed swords pointing upwards, superimposed in the centre with a representation of a naval anchor and a tabua, with two coconut leaves one on either side of the anchor. (2) The reverse side of the Medal shall be inscribed- (i) in the case of a Medal awarded in the Military Division-with the words: "For services in the Army, Navy, Police, Prisons, Disciplined Services"; and (ii) in the case of a Medal awarded in the Civil Division-with the words: "For service to the Republic". Ribbon 8. The Medal shall be worn on the left breast suspended from a ribbon 36 mm in width, consisting of three stripes of equal width, coloured- (a) in the case of a medal awarded in the Civil Division - navy blue, peony red, with a white strip down the centre, and rifle green in that order; and (b) in the case of a Medal awarded in the Military Division - navy blue, peony red and rifle green in that order.
