    1. There is medal groups for every conceivable medallic interest. It's where I get most of my information. You should publish those notes and make it easier for the rest of us!
    2. An NSW Ambulance Service Pandemic Service Medal mounted. As these are worn on the right chest the order of precedence is reversed.
    3. It's just an option to make the subject accessible to more people than just the GMIC community.
    4. Hi all, I have set up a new group pertaining to medals of the Russo-Ukrainian War. All welcome to join! https://www.facebook.com/groups/671905041042263 Admin please delete if not allowed.

    6. Hi all, out of pure curiousity what are people's opinions on charity organisations' (RNLI, SJAB (lifesaving, etc.), Order of Malta associations (not the national awards of the Order, but charities like OMAC, etc.), Royal Humane Society or the Red Cross) medals being mounted with official medals? Obviously certain medals can be worn on the right breast in uniform, but for those no longer serving what are your opinions? In Ireland it is relatively common to see the Reserve Defence Force Service Medal and the 2016 Centenary Commemorative Medal mounted with the medals of the three voluntary ambulance services (OMAC, Saint John Ambulance Ireland (separate from SJAB) and the Irish Red Cross). In this photo you see medals worn as (somewhat) according to the Ambulance Corps order of precedence. National awards of the Order first (Order pro Merito Melitensi), then national awards of Ireland or other official medals (RDF Service Medal (7yr variant)), then medals of the Ambulance Corps (the right three on the top row are not mounted as according to the official order of precedence however the rest are).
    7. Ah thanks for the snarky comment sorry that's on me for not having had the time in my life to read through every single comment 🙏🏻
    8. Well bugger me mate that's helpful thanks so much for your contribution I'd never have guessed
    9. Community first responders now qualify. Has anyone a picture of the Scottish reverse?
    10. @bigjarofwasps I take it you'll be getting yours engraved in Welsh?

    12. I think @bigjarofwasps was referring to this combination with the Welsh engraving on the LSGC. I hope that they allow PSNI officers to get Irish or Ulster Scots engraving on their medals soon. Side-note @bigjarofwasps whenever I get a GMIC notification I already know what it'll be if it's from you as I've usually already seen you put it up on Facebook 🤣
    13. Irish Civil Defence. I know the designer and this was the fifth iteration of designs that he proposed.
    14. Graciously approved is a generic term. I wouldn't read into it. Remains to be seen whether it'll be the first CIIIR. It could be like the Korea Medal and have the new monarch, or be like the Arctic Star and have the old monarch (although in that case it was just a cypher). If it is of the Queen it'll be an older effigy. Probably the same as the GSM 1962.
    15. https://hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2022-11-22/debates/F4B07DE6-8235-4393-8DE3-D40A7550BF01/NuclearTestVeteransMedals "The Prime Minister yesterday announced the creation of a new medal, the nuclear test medal, which has been graciously approved by His Majesty the King." Looks like it will be a new medal altogether and not a GSM from the wording of this!
    16. Throwing a spanner in the works here, but could the white ribbon be a Polar Medal?
    17. Hi all, so I'm aware that under the King's Regs, RNLI, Royal Humane Society and Order of Saint John lifesaving awards can be worn on the right breast in uniform. I was wondering if it would be possible for people to apply for permission to wear other charity medals on the right breast, such as the awards of the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps (while the Order has a number of official awards as a sovereign entity, such as the Order pro Merito Melitensi, the Ambulance Corps' awards are issued by the charity, not the Order's government), especially considering that the Ambulance Corps exists in Northern Ireland as it is an all-island organisation. An article about the Order's medics under fire during the Troubles: https://www.irishnews.com/news/northernirelandnews/2019/08/15/news/volunteer-medic-recalls-dodging-bullets-and-petrol-bombs-in-august-1969-1685167/ Picture of Ambulance Corps' 10yr service medals, entirely equivalent to the Service Medal of the Order of Saint John, only not in the Order's "national" order of precedence:
    18. The Korea Medal was issued 59 or 60 years ago, can't recall if it was 1952 or 1953. The Arctic Star is a far more recent precedent.
    19. Doubt it mate. The Arctic Star was issued with the GVIR cypher on it. I reckon it'll be an EIIR medal, if it's not already going to be a GSM.
    20. Different theatre stars had different rules. Theoretically, for example, someone could have done 3 years in the ARP or Home Guard in the UK to get the Defence Medal, then one day in Burma to get the Burma Star. Not sure about the Italy Star's criteria but it is plausible that this could be the case. Potentially a civilian entertainer with the forces? Checked it out and the Italy Star (for army, naval shore based and RAF non aircrew) just required entry into the theatre. These are unusual pairs, but far from impossible. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italy_Star
    21. Actually on the topic of the previous comment, do we foresee emergency services LSGCs being reduced from 20 years service to 15 years or even 10 years in light of the average length of service changing as time goes on? And especially now that bars are sanctioned for the medals.
    22. Yes it will probably be GSM clasps to save money. That being said, those guys deserve their own proper medal.
    23. Antonio the Order of Malta's medal is an official medal of a sovereign nation. The Order is its own country. Issues valid passports, has ambassadors, etc. That medal shouldn't be put with the unofficial group. But the Ukrainian and Russian medals are unofficial so they should be down there instead.
    24. I've always just bought cheap medals. Most valuable I have is a Castelfidardo Medal which I got with an Austro-Hungarian WW1 medal for €15 from an antiques dealer who didn't care for medals. I prefer having a larger collection with people I can research rather than any rare medals. Most I'd pay for a medal would be €100 and I've only done that once for a BSAP Reserve Long Service Medal.
    25. I hope to GOD that if my generation has to fight a major international war that they give us something better than just an OSM for it. World War Three campaign stars!
