    1. Hello Gentlemen, Offered to me is this 1st pattern Spange with it's original case, both in excellent condition. I see this same Spange in Gordon Williamson's book on page 165. I think it's the same piece, but need a real solid confirmation from the Spange folks here before going forward with this. Can someone kindly help? Robert
    2. Thanks, A different lettering style than mine on front. Here are some more photos of the cross and packet that I bought from Detlev, who assured me that they were a true match... Thanks, Robert
    3. Yes, 1940. I was thinking one thing and writing another. Thanks, so there was nothing given for this action in France other than personal awards, no campaign medal. Thank you Dave, Robert
    4. Hello, I wonder if someone could help me with this. For an WWII German infantryman who fought during the invasion of France in 1943, would there be a campaign medal awarded him for this invasion? Robert
    5. My goodness. Sounds very disturbed. Thank you for the sound advice. I'll heed to it. There was a sound of bitterness toward others when we talked on the phone. My 'radar' went up immediately. Robert Pierce
    6. Thanks Darrell, It's really hard for someone who doesn't understand the position we take on originality. To them we seem almost fanatical in our quest for perfection. But that's what makes the hobby so enjoyable to me. I guess I love the contrast. I'd rather have the original. Original, or nothing! Let them keep making the fakes by the thousands, I'll be more determined to find the one original that's left to find. Robert
    7. A Bob Rodgers owns this spange, a dealer with a dagger website. He has pulled every sales thread off of the WAF e-stand in the last 24 hours, which he ran this last week. I received a PM from a very reliable source warning me to run from this person - not because of his daggers, but because of this spange. I PMed Bob just now, and all I could get from him was a name of 'Brian', a well-known dealer at the MAX and SOS. Also the name 'maederer'. He bought quite a few items from him including this spange. He confessed he knows very little about TR badges, but felt very comfortable buying from this 'Brian', saying that he had 40 years in the business. I don't know the person, not being in that circle of people, so I can't say anything regarding Brian. But I'm looking for confirmation, another known example, and I'm not finding it. I respect people's opinions and their years of experience. But still that's nothing without proof of originality. That's why I joined this forum. I'm a novice in a lot of areas, but I know enough to listen to those who show me proof of originality. They're my teachers. And I thank you for your help on this one. I appreciate the warnings you have given. We just talked on the phone. It's eveident Bob has little knowledge of TR badges. He's a dagger man. He's wanting to know what's wrong with the badge. I said another example like it has been impossible to locate. To him that's not enough to condemn it. End of conversation. I'm pulling out of this one. Robert
    8. David, This is what I got in regards to photos when I asked for better shots. The first were four feet from the lens. He's selling quite a few collectibles at the moment, and is not necessarily the best photographer, nor does he care to be. His comment is that he got them all from a very well-known collector, and "that should be good enough for us." I thank you for your input on this. At this time I feel it's not something I want to buy, simply because it is not something anybody is familiar with. I just wanted to run it by the eyes of the members here to see if I could get some comments. I agree it looks like a transitional spange, but really cannot find any known examples of it anywhere, not even in Gordon's book on the Iron Cross. I'm going to play it safe and pass, but keep the photos on file for down the road. Thank you for your trouble. I appreciate the input, David. Respects, Robert
    9. Thank you again Charles, This vet, Willie Lang, was assigned to the 469th Infantry Reg. from 1939-1943 in Denmark and France. From 1943 to 1945 he served with the 15th and 35th Panzerregiments in Russia, Charkow. The German grouping is my first, and is extremely interesting to me. I only wish he had his uniform and more to offer at the time, but I'm happy to have rescued this in one piece. Robert
    10. I'm not real sure, but I believe there is one more '86' on the Collectors Guild site, number H058856. The ring is smaller, but the frame, swasi and date look the same, or very near the same. Robert
    11. Thank you Charles, I've been beating my head up against the wall on another forum in an effort for the members to accept this set. You're the first one to even give comment on it. Thank you. I personally don't know of any better way to authenticate a set than from the veteran himself. And of course, other sets received in the similar fashion would greatly confirm this. I know of only one other original packet from Paulmann & Crone to be in existance, referring to the other forum I belong to. Perhaps more here would volunteer photos of their packets. And, if I'm getting WAY off topic, please forgive me. I'm just thrilled to see others interested in this '86' set! Perhaps I should start another thread just for this. Robert
    12. Here is the framed grouping. As you can see the cross itself has a nice shine to the frame still. The core is a flat black like a typical '65'. All of his awards are included here, and are registered in his Wehrpass. The IAB is the SHuCo design (unmarked) with the 4-stemmed cross-hatching, and neither the Ostmedaille or BWB are marked. Nothing he was awarded was maker marked. This IS the cross that came in the packet, as the vet himself received it during the war. I believe this sets absolute match-up between cross and packet, thus an original '86' EKII. Robert
    13. This set came directly from the vet himself in Germany. I'll post the entire grouping I purchased from him including his Wehrpass, awards and US/German discharge paperwork. Unfortunately this was all he had from the war, no uniform.
    14. Micha, No, it is not the usual Souval marked cross. I have plenty of those. The '86' has got to be one of the 'ugliest' of all EKII's, small swasi, poorly designed beading, etc., but still an original. I'll hunt for some photos I have stuck away on disc and post here. Robert
    15. You're right Steve, Matching cross to packet means nothing. The worse thing that can happen is I have one more unmarked EKII and another '109' packet. On a cross that is said to have never been stamped, like these '109's, about the only way of knowing they match is to get it from a vet. We'll see if someone posts a cross that came in a '109' packet here. I have an '86' Paulmann & Crone that came directly from the vet himself with packet. I figure I have about as close to a matched original as it comes. I heard Paulmann & Crone never marked their EKII either. Robert
    16. Hi all, I just bought from Detlev a matched set of packet and EK '109'. When it (they) arrives I will post it here for discussion. Unmarked ring. Robert
