    3. Respectfully, I disagree. Although there were approximately twice as many Orders of the Red Banner of Labor (~1,200,000) as Orders of the Red Banner (~581,000) awarded, the Red Banner of Labor, which was established as the civilian counterpart to the military/long service Order of the Red Banner, remained the highest labor award bestowed. Only the Hero of Socialist Labor/Order of Lenin and Order of the October Revolution were preeminent, political considerations notwithstanding. Nick, thank you very much for sharing your father's impressive array of awards, documents, and compelling history!

    18. Thought you might be interested in this. It is from the archive and documents your award. Unfortunately there are two with the same name and year of birth, from the same region, so I have no way of determining which one he is. One was awarded a Bravery Medal, a Rifleman in the 6th Squad of the 288th "Stalingrad" Rifle (Infantry) Regiment, 181st "Stalingrad" Red Banner, Order of Lenin & Suvorov, 2nd Class, Rifle (Infantry) Division, the other was a Wagon Driver in the 930th Independent Battalion, Communication Corps, 48th Rifle (Infantry) Division. The latter, or second one, was initially recommended for a Bravery Medal, but was subsequently downgraded to a Combat Service Medal.
    19. You're welcome, Paul. I think the documents are much more rare. There were, as I understand it, more medals manufactured than needed or, in fact, awarded, thereby making the award books much more rare.
