A couple bayonets
Jim P replied to Tom Y's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Equipment
The 1st bayo posted is indeed a private purchase "walking out" bayonet. It falls under the vague description of ks 98 and is considered a model 1940 dress carbine by Janzen. The press stud is just for show as is the lug slot.Originally the slot would have held a felt plug as it was never intended to be used as a bayonet. The last 2 bayo's are model 1908 Brazilian mauser bayonets.German made models are usually marked and come with steel mounted leather scabbards.Brazilian made models are usaully marked like yours and come with the brass mounted scabbards. If you look closely at the sides of the pommel you may even be able to find a script "B" lightly stamped on it also. Hope this helps. Jim -
With the sizes you give,it is indeed a model 1918 Schmidt-Rubin.The maker is interesting as most were made by Nuehausen.I don't know how that affects the value though. It was a very well used bayonet as they fit the M-1911,M-1931,and several sub machine guns up into the 50's.Too bad about the leather belt loop missing on the scabbard, but still a very nice bayo in great shape. Great looking 1886 lebel, especially since it escaped being cut down during WWI.The Japanese T-30 is nice also. The arsenal marks are for National Denki under Kokura supervision. Jim

Thanks alot Tony.I would say that the 3 inch is a lock. The 5 inch is probably going to be a little tougher, because it is completely unmarked. Thanks again Jim

Thanks Tony,I don't know about the 100 FPS,but 100 Feet Per Second is rubberband gun slow,so I don't think that is it.That popped into my head too.It has been suggested that the 1st one is a 3 inch navy and the other is a 5 inch navy that has been cut down. Jim

A friend of mine just brought these in for me and I have no idea what they are or from what era.Any help would be greatly appreciated. The tall one is about 590mm tall and the inside diameter is around 73mm.It is marked on the bottom MARKII GUNMOD OF 98-02-18 lot 1379 100FPS. The short one has no markings that I can find and is 310mm tall with an opening of 120mm. thanks,Jim

It is a model 1866 lebel. It should be @25 inches long and the blade is non removeable. It was intended to be replaced by the 1892 Berthier, but at the out break of ww1 some surplus 1886 lebel's were again pressed into service in 1915,which is why Tonys' is marked with a 15.The proper model for your bayonet Tony, would be lebel 1886/15. Hope this helps, Jim P

Outstanding Frank,it's hard enough finding one good helmet at a show let alone 3,and in such good shape. One heck of a Saturday. Jim P -
I've been wanting a ww2 german tunic since I was a kid. After I got back into this hobby a few years ago and seen how high the prices were,I lost all hope of ever having a nice one. Then a friend of mine worked a deal for me that I just couldn't believe and I now am the proud (and last) owner of this great example of an early tunic.Frank I can't thank you enough!! Well here it is.The only bad thing about it was that some idiot had glued the litzen on at some point,so the 1st thing I did was go to work with some goof off.I'm not finished with it,but couldn't wait any longer to post pictures. It has 3 sets of award loops on the left pocket,3 loops for a good sized ribbon bar,and 1 loop on the right pocket. After looking it over closely I can see where there was one below it,so a spanish or german cross would have gone there I suppose. I hope you like it,I sure do. Jim P

Wow,I have never seen one of these before and don't know anything about it,but what a beautiful dagger. Any history behind it? Jim

Great looking collection Greg!!There is nothing more menacing looking than a sawback, except maybe that great looking M-1917 you've got there also. Jim P
