IMO period professional jeweler engraving can be authenticated, as certain hand engraving in styles of the time are a lost art today. Personal hand engraving for the most part is a matter of faith, personally if it's in a large group of items from the family I tend to believe it is legit. I have two jeweler engraved crosses a 1939 EK 1 and a 1914, I have no doubt they are period jeweler engraved due to their workmanship & style.

Clerks? Really, tell me more, it seems when I was in Iraq standing at a memorial ceremony for the postumous award of a bronze star to Airman First Class Leebernard Chavez last year from being killed by a sniper he didn't appear to be a "clerk." You need to do your homework before you make such an ignorant comment and save yourself the embarasment.

I'm new to this forum and so far I like what I see, lots super looking crosses and folks having fun. I've been collecting on and off for over 25 yrs. and I've only seen two W.W.2 era EK 1s engraved that I thought were original. What are your thoughts on why we don't see many TR engraved EK1s? Military tradition is hard to kill in just 21 yrs. and I fine it odd we don't see as many nice engraved examples as W.W.1 era.
