    2. I'm not sure if this is the correct section to post this topic but while I was at a Military Show in Minneapolis,Mn. on the October 3-4 weekend, Craig Luther told me Marty Vaughan had died August 1 in Florida and was buried in Ohio. Craig had just learned about it just before the Military Show. Marty was a pioneer in the collecting of Iraqi militaria and published the first book (50 copies) of An Introduction to the Military Badges, Insignia, Patches and Medals of Iraq. Bob
    3. Lorenzo, You are on the right track.NUISY under the head stands for National Union for Iraqi Students and Youth. Bob
    4. Lorenzo, I can help you out with most of it. Above on the hanging plate: In the name of Merciful God Above the badge: Iraqi Republic Head of Endowment Office Below: it wasn't clear in the photo (sorry). Bob
    5. Lorenzo, What would you do with out me? Translation: Above: God is Great and the victory is for us Below: Special First Army Command. Bob
    6. Doc and Paul, I had my friend do some checking on the qardoons. He asked another dealer about the medical department qardoons and he didn't think the medical department had one. As far as the green qardoon, my friend was told there isn't any specific rank that used the green color but this and other colors were used by detachments in the Military Training Centers to differentiate each detachment from one another. My friend is going to ask another one or two dealers to double check on this information and get back to me. That is all I have for now. Bob
    7. Paul, My friend in Iraq does the translating for me that way I know it is correct. Bob
    8. Paul, Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I got side tracked with posting the different cord colors on a different post. The Iraqi Eagle-The Iraqi State started to use this eagle as a official emblem since 1963 and this eagles shape was used by the old Islamic leader Salladin from the Ayoobi State around 500A.H. The large translation below the eagle is " Iraqi Republic". Bob
    9. I am checking on your question and will post it when I get any information. Bob
    10. Lorenzo, If you wiil look on page # 3 Middle East & Arabian Countries, post # 1 by Sivart ( maybe Fedayeen) the collar disc on the left side has the same emblem as your medal. I had identified it as a collar dics for the Military Academy. I asked my friend in Iraq about your medal and he hadn't seen one like that before but he agreed that the middle of your medal had the same emblem as the Military Academy. Good luck on your search for more treasures! Bob
    11. Paul R and Lorenzo, I have been following your posts while waiting for my friend in Iraq to answer me about the different color of ropes. First of all, habel is not the correct name for the cords. Habel means a rope that you pull or drag things with. The name of the cord which goes around the shoulder is Qardoon. There are eighteen different shoulder cords that my friend knows of and here is the list. Some are still in use 1- Infantry-red and green 2- Artillery- red and deep blue 3- Electrical and Mechanical Engineer-red and yellow 4- Military Transportation- red and brown 5- Tank- red and gray 6- Republican Guard-red 7- Military Police- white- still used 8- Air Defense- red and light blue 9- Civil Defense- red and white 10- Higher Officers Official Uniform-gilt (or yellow) 11- 3rd Army (legion)-black and gilt 12- Military College Students-red- still used 13- Air Force College Students-light blue 14- Police-black and olive 15- Traffic Police- white and deep blue, still used 16- Police MP (Control Units) - black 17- Police-Nationality Department-black and white 18-Police College Students-white I hope this helps you out. I have a question on # 6 and # 12 both being red so will check into it a little farther. Bob
    12. Paul, A nice badge and you have the presentation packet to go with it. Most of the time you find the badge without the packet. The translation is- The Leader President Saddam Huseyin. I hope this helps you out. Bob
    13. I have been following the comments on the Sword of Al Qadissiyah so I would like to post some information that I have on the Decoration. I took Lorenzo's advice and wrote an article for the JOMSA magazine on the Sword of Al Qadissiyah in November of 2008 so it should be out sometime this year. I have an Decoration like the one posted here at GMIC only mine is on the OMSA website since April 2008. My Decoration was purchased in September 2007 from my friend in Iraq. The Decoration is a gold plated metal and the stone is an imitation one. It is not known how many were awarded as the information was classified at that time and it wasn't a good idea to be asking too many questions. Many of the official buildings were looted after the fall of Saddam so who knows what happened to the records. Bob
    14. Hello, A very nice Decoration. Did you know that an actual sword was awarded to go with this decoration? Bob
    15. Lorenzo, Those are very nice looking documents. At least you are having some luck finding your treasures! Bob

Lower left- Lower quality beret badge used after 2000. Lower right-Officers of H.Q. Army inside Ministry of Defense site in Baghdad rank. Bob

Upper left -Iraqi Air Force Wing rank and Armor rank Lower left-Artillery rank, demining rank (removes mines, etc.),and electrical mechanical engineer rank. I hope this helps in your identification. Bob
    21. Mike, I contacted my friend in Iraq and I learned a lot from his reply. The uniform is for the General Fedaration of Iraqi Youth. He doesn't know the names of the three types of camouflage patterns but the blue and brown types contain the map of the Arabian Countries(from the Gulf to the Ocean) while the green type is the normal camouflage pattern. The youth soldiers blue camo. uniform is used by those under 12 years old(primary school ages). The brown camo. uniform (like the blue one) is used by those persons between 12 to 15 years old(intermediate school ages) while the green camouflage used for those who are 16 years old and older(secondary school ages). The youngest Youth Soldiers duties are mostly related with culture(poetry, art, speeches, songe, etc.) to Iraq,Al Ba'ath Party, Saddam.etc. The patch on the uniform is translated as follows: Right:General Federation 1972 Left:of Iraqi Youth 1972 Below: Youth Soldiers Organization. The Country, the control, the work, the purpose for country's serving. Bob
    22. Lorenzo, A very nice find . The patch is for the Military Technical Institute. The translation of the patch is: Upper circle right to left: the faith, the science, the work. Middle right book page: In the name of merciful God Middle left book page: Oh God give me more science(knowledge) (verse from the Holy Qur'an). Below:1993 Military Technical Institute Keep up the good work and good luck in finding all those badges and medals you are looking for !!!! Bob
    23. I sent a scan of the star to my friend in Iraq to see if he could help you out. His reply was that he has never seen a star like this and he has collected badges and medals in Iraq for many years . Sorry I can't help you out but I tried. Bob
    24. Lorenzo, I sent my friend in Iraq pictures of your Order to see if he could help you out and here is his reply."This Order offered here about 8 years ago and as I remember the price was too high and the Order went to a private collection. We didn't know what the Order was. In my opinion, this Order made special for someone in the Royal Family and not awarded to others because I have about all the Laws of Orders and Medals in the Kingdom Period and I don't find this Order in them or this Order was a gift to someone in the Royal family from another Kingdom family in Great Britain or another country. There is also a chance that this Order isn't Iraqi but Jordanian because the Crowns shape is the same of the Iraqi Royal Family one and there isn't any mark that refers that this is Iraqi item". Sorry your question isn't answered but I tried. Bob
    25. Lorenzo, I was at an antique show in Rochester, Mn. the last part of August and I see what you mean by junk comming back from Iraq. A dealer was trying to sell items he had purchased from a veteran just back from Iraq. Included was the medal you show in post # 1, two Wound medals each with different ribbons and with two different types of suspension ( one was correct ) . All the medals I saw had the wrong ribbons and the real kicker was a 1926-1958 General Service Medal with the rifle stocks cut off even with the rim of the medal. I didn't have my camera along as I wasn't expecting to see this kind of junk at the show. The dealer was asking $ 75.00 for the group. The group was six medals but I don't remember what the others were but nothing rare was in the group. Take care and stay safe. Bob
