    1. Another name badge in need of a translation...
    2. Here is a neat name/unit badge I added to my Desert Storm uniform. When I get a translation, I will relocate it to the appropriate uniform and rank. It really has a great patina that goes well with this uniform. Scott.
    3. Thanks Paul, just a work in progress. As you know, I am mostly interested in combat items but I enjoy the medals when I can find them reasonably priced (cheap ) Thanks again, Scott.
    4. Here are a couple of Iraqi Armor breast badges that are quite similar to the old DDR variety. It is a bit difficult to see but the one on the left is gilt while the other is silver. I am not sure if this denotes a particular class or perhaps just a different manufacturer. Scott.
    5. Here is a closer shot of some of them.
    6. Here is an updated shot of some of my Iraqi medals and ribbons. It has been a while since I did an update on new items... I am trying to assemble all of the medals with their corresponding ribbons. So far I have a pretty good start, and even a few ribbons without medals . Scott
    7. Look again Paul, it's 500GBP which is $650.00USD! Scott.:speechless1:
    8. Very neat Finnish display, thanks Kev! Is there a corrolation of some sort to say why they have this displayed? Perhaps just Eastern Front combatants? Thanks again Kev and keep showing us more of this fantastic museum! :jumping: Scott.
    9. Well said Owain, running around the world paying top dollar for everything you find certainly does little to help the realized value of items. It merely encourages the sellers to ask for more and more exhorbitant fee's because they know someone out there will pay it. All one has to do is log onto E-bay today and see the crazy priced Iraqi shoulder boards and the $100,000.00 Fedayeen helmet to witness proof of this. As there are very few collectors of Iraqi militaria it is we who should be setting the prices, and we should be careful in forcing these prices up prematurely. Scott.
    10. Well Paul, I can't tell you what it is for certain. However, the construction is certainly done in the proper Iraqi style and not by dubious E-bay vendor style. It could be as simple as a rank denotation for an element of the Popular Army. (Perhaps one stripe in green for a "Jundi" or private, or maybe an officer equivalent to Lieutenent?) Very interesting piece, are they in a pair? Scott.
    11. This is awesome, my favorite so far in this museum! Sorry medal guys, but the uniforms are just amazing, especially surviving combat patterns worn by the everyday soldier. Thanks Kevin! Scott.
    12. Pistachios... Need to find a way to type and crack the shells, what a dilemma. I guess I will quit typing!

    13. Well, it's a start... Thanks for your info and hopefully someone can give me a year and model on this. Scott.
    14. Interesting that he is wearing the Kingdom style rank pips with the Thunder patch. I wonder if he would be part of the combined Arab force that was to go against Israel? Do you know the period that the photo was taken? Very nice photo of this insignia being worn:jumping: Scott.
    15. As always, thank you and your friend in Iraq for the great information Bob. Scott.
    16. Info? Thoughts? Negative comments? Anyone... Scott.
    17. Where the backing has pulled loose, you can see it is brown... Thanks for the help, Scott.
    18. Hi all, I recently got this eagle out of a batch of U.S. stuff from a local WWII vet. It appears unissued and I would just like to know more about it. What type of uniform it would go on, why the nice backing. etc... Thanks, Scott.
    19. Here is a closer view of the pocket embroidery. Scott.
    20. Hello all, I have a uniform that appears to be mostly French. The trousers are marked as French (Armee, size, etc...)inside and on the buttons and the "boonie" style hat is marked as well. The problem is the jacket, the buttons seem to be bakelite and are unmarked, and the upper pockets have an "F" inside a diamond embroidered on the flaps. The inside markings read S.N.C. Flers in an ink box and below 100c and what looks like a capitol G with some obsured letters. I am guessing that this is from the 50s or 60s and possibly some type of tropical set as it is green twill and unlined, perhaps for Algeria? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scott.
    21. Merry Christmas to all on this great forum! I hope that you all receive stockings full of your favorite collectibles.

    22. My son just received a DDR EM para beret in grey, he is quite happy but this seems to have spurred his desire to get an orange em and officer beret. Anyone have any suggestions of where he may look to find these? Thanks, Scott.

      Nakata Catalog

I can't speak much about medals but Tadao Nakata has been making quality repros for many years. When I was collecting Japanese, his items were very difficult to obtain in the states as he wouldn't ship unless it was a very large quantity order. At various times I have owned Cherry Blossom helmets, NLF Para helmets and entrenching tools by Nakata and all were marked as being reproductions. I found when doing displays that the problem with the markings were that they were in Japanese (go figure), this led many to believe that they were in fact Japanese items from WWII... If he is the producer of the medals, I am sure that they would be marked or altered for identification. In the 70s he made a few impeccable Japanese Army Para helmets, I owned one of these and the story was that they were made from real parts. I could find nothing on this helmet to clearly say that it was a repro, until I finally got a real one. the only difference aside from patina, was that the real one had a magnetic shell and the repro did not.... Scary but true, Nakata is a master among Japanese collectors:ninja: . Scott.
