    3. Hi, Here are the pictures of the uniforms worn during the Koren War by a Turkish officer and a private. These pictures are taken today when I visited again the small museum of the Turkish War Veterans Assc. First the uniform of the then Lieutenant Cengiz Turkogul. I also met him today and he took me to the Museum to show me the uniform he has worn. He retired as a Captain. He is in charge of the Parliament Relations of the Assc. :D
    4. Thanks again Mr. Saral, But neither me nor the people in the Turkish War Veterans Assc. claimed that the mannequin wearing the uniform and badges are original and contemporary. So you got it right they are all imitations. The Veterans Assc. was triying to give an idea about the uniform and badges. This mannequin is located in the corridor of the Veterans building. If you want to see the real uniform and badges you have to come to Ankara, and I will be glad to take you to Cebeci, to the Turkish War Veterans show room and Anıtkabir Museum. I respect your knowledge about these matters so it is lovely to see you in this forum. Since I have the opportunity to have you in the forum I would like to receive your views on the Korean War medals and badges; A. Would you like to comment on the Veterans badges and medals who have the pictures in my thread and my Korean war badge collection, like the metal, round Turkish Flag or the blue commerative badge, we have very little knowledge about these, although some veterans gave me some idea about them. B. Also In order to check whether I was right or wrong, would you give me your opinion on my threads: 1. How to recognize original UN Korean War Medal http://gmic.co.uk/in...showtopic=43324 2. LANGUAGE in the UN KOREAN WAR MEDALS http://gmic.co.uk/in...showtopic=43084 3. 2 Version of the ENGLISH UN KOREA WAR MEDAL http://gmic.co.uk/in...showtopic=43189 and 4. UN Medals awarded for the KOREAN WAR and my collection http://gmic.co.uk/in...showtopic=31830 It is really nice to have your knowledge ond opinions in this forum, Regards Demir

So we shall benefit from your views about the Turkish military history which you know a lot. Thanks Demir
    6. Yes you are right. I called him and asked what it is. He says he has silver star but his ribbon was ruined and he asked a new on from the US Embassy and received a bronze medal and ribbon instead. So as you say it is silver star with bronze star ribbon. So I have to find a silver star ribbon for him ! (In my earlier thread I confused the ribbons-sorry) demir

    19. Hello, Some colleques have been asking questions about the United Nations Korean War Medal given to the Turkish troops. In order to get the answers from the veterans I visited today the Turkish War Veterans Association and tried to find the answers : Q1: Are the Turkish Korean War Veterans allowed to wear the UN Korean war medal ? A1: There is no official medal given by the Turkish Government but Veterans can wear the UN Korean War Medal. Q2: Did the Turkish Korean War Veterans change the blue and white UN ribbons into red ribbons (as sold by some companies as vintage ribbons) because it resembles the Greek flag? A2: No, they did not and it is absurd to claim such an idea. Q3: Did Turkish Korean War Veterans send their medals back to the UN in June 5,1964 when Turkish troops were stopped to intervene the situation by a letter written by the USA President Lyndon B. Johnson ( …."Furthermore, a military intervention in Cyprus by Turkey could lead to direct involvement by the Soviet Union. I hope you will understand that your NATO allies have not had a chance to consider whether they have an obligation to protect Turkey against the Soviet Union if Turkey takes a step which results in Soviet intervention without the full consent and understanding of its NATO allies….." summary: So he was saying that you are all alone against the Soviet Union although you are a member of NATO which was founded against the Soviet aggression) after the Cypriot Greeks start killing the Turks in Cyprus? (more info: http://www.cyprus-co...nsonletter.html) A3: Yes they have sent their UN Korean war medals back in order to protest USA and USA Army which they dearly helped by their lives during the Korean War. The medals were sent to the regional Military Draft Offices. Q4: What happened to those who have sent their medals back since they don't even have an official Turkish Korean War Medal? A4: Through the organization of the National Turkish Students Association and with the financial help of a well known late singer Zeki Muren, they were given a medal with a Cyprus map. Obverse; Cyprus Map and National Turkish Students Association written under it. Reverse: initials of the Association (MTTB) and their logo on the top and Korean Veterans National Service Award written in Turkish. (attached picture)
    20. Because, according to the Turkish War Medal (aka Gallipoli Medal, Eiserner Halbmond) regulation dated 1.3.1915 article 3, the medal should be weared 4 fingers below the right breast. Whereas the German Iron Cross should be weared on the left side under the breast. Demir
