    1. And, by the way, the closest match to known (presumed?) photos of Yevgeny Stanislavovich that I can find in the photo that launched this thread.
    2. As must as you wish I were not a Российский языковой неграмотный, I wish so even more!
    3. And the first I have in a series of similar documents. I am really (REALLY) trying not to flood.
    4. As the wise old Lady said, "curiouser and curiouser". Two documents may (or may not) help, but I can't read 'em . The first I have related to him:
    5. Looks like he drove machine-gun cars during the (civil) war then drove (whatever) in Leningrad later on? Seems a pretty early driver's license. Still figuring out what sort of name is "Strod" -- an odd name? As developed in other threads, his wife got a Defense of Leningrad and his son became a submariner. Not a bad family saga? What I have is: Yevgeny Stanislavovich Strod Maria Alexandrovna Strod (his wife) Viktor Yevgenievich Strod (their son) There may be others hiding in the heap of documents and photos. Family was from Leningrad. Yevgeny Stanislavovich was in (presumably) automobile machine gun corps in the Civil War. Viktor Yevgenievich was in navy in WWII and after (presumably submarines).
    6. Some place, I vaguely recall seeing this identification too, Eric.
    7. Another interesting pair? The one on the left has been shown before (black clipped velvet interior, white upper lining, badge with forked pin marked "I") and the one on the right is new (same interior construction, badge with forked pin, plain reverse).
    8. That seems a good working theory. I, too, find teh absence of a victory medal odd. I shall take a shot at getting some records, but have limited hopes. A shame this photo -- after he did some trimming of his lip-fur -- has the "stamp-goes-here" white circle where it is.
    9. Maria Alexandrovna Strod, technical employee of the Commerce School of the Commerce and Industry Management of Leningrad city, would later get a pretty certificate "for the conscientious attitude to labour and to the socialist property". See: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=14515&st=65
    10. Thanks again. Theory: Serving son (at Leningrad -- see http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21093 ) writes to mom (father -- http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21104 http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=18468&st=63 http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21110 -- is no more?). Mom is also at Leningrad
    11. Thanks, "Nesredep"! Glad someone looked. Follow the links to the real material. Ed
    12. All slopes need "company", OoV!!!!!!! I am a sucker for documents. Whether I can read them or not. Неосведомленный ублюдок, что я.
    13. Thanks, she seems to be the mother of the family (husband, wife, and son) on whom I have a stack of paperwork, recipient of the Defence of Leningrad medal. But what sort of name is "Strod"???
    14. Oh . . . been there for some time . . . I am sorry to say . . . well, a wee little bit sorry. This is part of a stack of family documents, photos, and (even) a few medals that have infected other threads in an as yet preliminary fashion. I only wish I had the language skills / Мне только жаль, что я не имею языковые навыки!!!!
    15. Wait until you see the remainder, Doc, just wait 'till you see the rest. But translationbs are (always) a problem. Why am I so illiterate!
