    1. Reference: Edward G. Miller, "Research on the 'Official" Weights of Gold Medals for Hero Star and Gold Hammer and Sickle of the Soviet Union," JOMSA: Journal of the Orders and Medals Society of America 59, 4 (July-August 2008): 35-37.
    2. It has actually arrived. Wonder of wonders. Reference: Ed Haynes, "The Mongolian Order of Combat Valor," JOMSA: Journal of the Orders and Medals Society of America 59, 4 (July-August 2008): 14-22.
    3. Invasion, occupation, plunder, pillage, extraction, and uncontrolled capitalist invention does wonders ("wonders"?) to the market.
    4. Czechoslovak War Cross 1939. The document has, I think, been shown? See http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=5053&st=25
    5. Thanks, Bob. Given the way OMSA sends out the journals (life members being the last of last) I have not seen it yet. That is on the list of things that should change, but unlikely to do so.
    6. The ribboned awards. The top (mounted) four seem to represent what the veteran chose to wear by preference toward the end of his life. An interesting personal commentary.
    7. In celebration of his relocation to a new home, I had hoped to all all of comrade Tolkachev's awards in a single post. He did not allow this, as he got too many things. First, his screwback and pincback awards.
    8. And here he is much later on, when he'd gotten MUCH better (with an additional MMM?!?!?).
    9. Maria Petrovna Ivanova http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=29981
    10. Thanks for new information. And thanks for confirming my suspicions. Maybe I should trust my instincts? No . . . probably not . . . .
    11. Thanks, JC. I found her (I think) quicker than I expected. There may be more . . . . Am I right? (I am so RARELY???) Ed
    12. From what I have when you are lucky enough to get "research" on these awards (a stack of unreadable -- to me -- newspaper articles), it seems she got get ORBL for 20 years as a school teacher. If I knew precisely what to post I'd post it. And I am still trying . . . . Speaking as someone who has just survived 33 years as a university professor: 1) she deserved it; 2) the damage shows. Help?!?!?!?
    13. Her. What is the other medal? (I have my guesses, but want confirmation.)
    14. Once again I need help. Order of the Red Banner of Labor #28063. Lovingly and heavily worn.
    15. Major Vasily Ivanovich Andreev http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=29980
    16. Bits and pieces of his group have been posted here, but as they now live with me, I have the DUTY to post his group coherently. It may take me a while to sort things out and get them posted. First, his medals (sorry, they really didn't fit on the scanner bed, but I MADE them fit, sort of).
