    1. Good morning. Sure that this photo is from 1915? The official name for this type of shield is "Infanterieschutzschild 16".
    2. Definately, even without a name. I got it very cheap, but in Germany the prices aren't that high for US medals. Your neighbour is a very brave man! Is his Silver Star named?
    3. Just got this one, made 1943. Very nice details and almost mint condition.
    4. Next update: Medals: Germany (federal): Einsatzmedaille "Fluthilfe 2013" Brandenburg: Elbeflut-Medaille des Landes Brandenburg (2013) Saxony: Sächsischer Fluthelfer-Orden 2013 Lower Saxony: Hochwassermedaille 2013 des Landes Niedersachsen Thuringia: Hochwasser-Medaille des Landes Thüringen 2013 Badges: Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: Ehrennadel des Landes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern "Fluthelfer 2013" Bavaria: Abzeichen "Fluthelfer 2013" Sachsen-Anhalt: Fluthelfer-Ehrennadel des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt 2013

    6. A little update: Germany (federal): Einsatzmedaille "Fluthilfe 2013" Brandenburg: Hochwassermedaille des Landes Brandenburg 2013 Saxony: Sächsischer Fluthelfer-Orden 2013 Lower Saxony: Hochwassermedaille 2013 des Landes Niedersachsen Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: Fluthelfer-Ehrennadel 2013 Bavaria: Fluthelfer-Ehrennadel 2013
    7. Saxonia: The medal is being produced by the company PräWeMa in Markneukirchen which produced a large part of the former GDR medals too. If you look closely at the flood medal posted by Claudio, you will recognize the pin. Its the same as used for GDR (DDR) medals in the past. It seems they still have huge amounts of these pins on stock.
    8. And the first photos! The flood medal of Saxony: http://naturgefahren.sachsen.de//fluthelferorden.htm
    9. Next one: Niedersachsen. -Hochwassermedaille 2013 des Landes Niedersachsen http://www.stk.niedersachsen.de/aktuelles/presseinformationen/beschluss-der-landesregierung-ueber-die-stiftung-der-hochwasser-medaille-2013-des-landes-niedersachsen-116945.html
    10. Here are some photos I took in and around the city of Torgau in Saxonia during the flood in June 2013 showing the crisis management center in the city with representatives of all relief organisations including the dutch army which joined the flood relief too while being on a training area some kilometers away. "Super Puma" Helicopter from the German Federal Police with sandbags and finally the river Elbe, which had a width of almost 1 km instead of about 200 m usually and its water level was about 7,5 m higher than it should be during this time of the year. We were all lucky that the dikes hold off these masses of water!
    11. And a first information (in german) about the saxonian medal: http://www.sz-online.de/sachsen/tillich-stiftet-fluthelfer-orden--2616141.html
    12. Yep. So far. And it seems I will be entitled at least to the saxonian one too as I volunteered for the flood relief at the beginning of June too. Here the official "Stiftungserlaß" for the new (federal) Einsatzmedaille "Fluthilfe 2013": http://www.buzer.de/gesetz/10767/index.htm
    13. Following the flood of the river Elbe this year, the following german states instituted flood relief medals just a couple of days ago: Germany (federal): Einsatzmedaille "Fluthilfe 2013" Brandenburg: Hochwassermedaille des Landes Brandenburg 2013 Sachsen: Sächsischer Fluthelfer-Orden 2013 More states will follow in the next weeks.
    14. Made in China replicas. I have the same set as seen above (army version with neck ribbon).
    15. The right decision. Anyone know if they already manufactured any of these medals? Maybe Lordship's "Medal of Honor backdoor" is still open...
    16. lol He really looks like Tom Jones! Some days ago I registered for taking part in the 2013 marche.
    17. I think they use these ID tag holders for all medal presentations in the US Armed Forces, I saw it on all photos from all branches. I had to reply on that one because I am Air Force (German Reserve) too I checked all Bronze Stars in my collection, all have a closed loop; so star and loop are made in one piece.
    18. I just came across these photos showing Air Force members being awarded with the Bronze Star Medal and found a funny little detail: Both Bronze Stars are showing the revers as front but the ribbon/pin is correctly attached. It seems they were mounted with the backside as front due to a production error and nobody ever realised that! Were the quality inspectors drunk? Its also interesting to see, that they are not engraved So the US are doing the same we do with our medals; saving money whereever possible? http://www.whiteman.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/photos/070730-F-1199H-003.jpg http://www.whiteman.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/photos/071128-F-1333S-004.JPG
    19. Here a closeup of one of them. What a crap construction! And why using a clasp with the inscription "Gefecht" (combat) instead of crossed swords for example? Maybe that would look too much military. Using painted medals brings our country back to produce "GDR quality" medals. I think we are not very far away to institute medals made from aluminium with plastic enamel...
    20. Thats really like beating into the face of every veteran...
    21. This is really crazy, especially the order of precedence. Imagine an old veteran from WWII who stormed the beaches of Normandy in 1944 and got wounded or took out a machine gun and got the Bronze Star for valor and now someone is sitting in an air conditioned room on Edwards Air Force Base with a joystick in his one hand and a cup of coffee in the other and gets a HIGHER award!
