      Malawi Medals

Sometimes phaleristic recalls to littérature, and welcome Robinson Crusoe This group of Medals : Army Meritorious Service & Army LSGC Medal belongs to Sergeant Friday Yobe Unusual name (for us). He was Corporal when he was awarded the Army LSGC Medal & S/Sergeant when he was awarded the Army Meritorious Service Medal. And it's not twice the same medal with a different ribbon, on the reverse picture it's hard to see, but the Army MSM is really an Army MSM on reverse. Awards of Malawi are (were?) gazetted, if anybody has a copy concerning "31034 S/SGT Friday Yobe" I would be glad. Emmanuel

      Malawi Medals

Hello Paul, There is nowday a President Banda in office in Malawi but not the one you have in mind, but it's Joyce Banda....sorry Kamuzu Banda was Prime Minister from 1964 (Independence) to 1966 (proclamation of the Republic of Malawi), then he became President and in 1971 President for Life. He was outset in may 1994 (after the Life Presidency was revoked in 1993), and died 25 november 1997 (some source reported him to have been born in 1896, but most reliable source refer as 1898,so he was President till the age of 96 !!!) President Bakili Muluzi succeded him (1994-2004) President Bingu succeded (2004-2012), but died in office. Since 2012 it's Joyce Banda who is President of Malawi (no family link with the first President). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_heads_of_state_of_Malawi It exist medals with President Muluzi (at least 2 : Continuous and Efficient Service Medal & Army Meritorious Service Medal)...so I guess there should exist LSGC Medal too (but I haven't seen one). It exist also at least one medal with President Bingu ( Police Long Service Medal ). Manufacturing is different and this medal is slightly larger in diameter 38 millimeters). I hope it helps. Any new pictures would be welcome. Emmanuel

      Malawi Medals

Hello Ilja, The Malawi Young Pioneers Long Service & Good Conduct Medal is a very scarce medal, that I saw only on one occasion (and I bought them). There was 2 in a lot in an auction (1 bronze & 1 silver), but both without ribbon. That medal is larger than the others medals issued during presidency of President Banda (38 millimeters instead of 35 millimeters). As the legends reads on obverse : Life President, I can say this medal is post 1971. Emmanuel
    4. Hello Gentlemen, despite no information was found on this medal, at least it exist. Commemorative Medal for the 20th Anniversary of the Army (with date on reverse 1966-1986). But it's Africa, so do not try to seek for any logic....in 2011 they have instituted a Medal for the 50th Anniversary of the Armed Forces (with dates on reverse 1961-2011). http://www.sgg.cg/imageProvider.asp?private_resource=1116&fn=jo_2011_12.pdf By the way lets' keep in mind that year 1986 was an important date in Congo history (they got a new Consitution in 1986). So maybe that medal was instituted to reinforce armed forces cohesion. Emmanuel
    5. As I said I do not own a S.P.K.K. set, but in 2005 I was allowed to take a photo of a set. It's not as good as it could be expected with a digital camera, but it's better than nothing. The main difference on the badges (here it's a collar badge on SPKK) , with sash badge of DPKK is that there is green leaf between the arms of the SPKK badge. Emmanuel
    6. I do not own a Kelantan S.P.K.K. set , but I own a J.M.K. , unfortunately without ribbon. If anyone could help (the shop Malaya Trading in KL doesn't has that ribbon), and I know the State of Kelantan directly orders his ribbon and sashes from Toye Kennings, but Toye Kennings seems to be deaf to my request. Emmanuel
    7. Hello Gentlemen, it had taken long long time before I could get one set of this Order of Kelantan, Most Valiant Order of the Noble Crown of Kelantan in Knight Commander rank D.P.K.K.). With its case.... Chritopher Buyers do a fantastic job, and I have send him several photo over the years, but some high ranking Malaysian Order are hard to get. Emmanuel
    8. Hello JDM, we would like to see this picture of HM Queen Elisabeth II wearing this Order. Emmanuel
    9. Hello Gentlemen, there is a large number of sub variation in 5th & 4th Class of the Order of the Star in the late 25th years of XIX to the first 25 years of the XX centuries. Here you can enyo some, the 2 with red stone & red cabochon are french made, the 3 others ,as you can see are local made. Emmanuel
    10. Tha one is NOT an Order from what I understand, but a member of Armed Staff Command (General Than Shwe is wearing one that seems to be enameled, but maybe it shall be flash light reflexion). General Thein Sein who succeded Than Shwe is wearing a gilded version too. It's a 65 millimeters breast badge in metal gilt, in the center the star, anchor & wings of the armed force is a separate parts. It's nice quality.I got it in its blue carton box of issue with its miniature and a rank enameled insignia that I have joined here (blue with 3 gold stars) and 32 x 10 millimeters. I'am not familiar with rank insignia, if anyone could helps. Regards. Emmanuel
    11. And now a fantastic medal bar From left to right : Military Service Medal - Medal for Victory against External Enemy - Medal for Battle in People's War As you can see from 1st row of General Than Shwe Medal, he wear them in the same order. Emmanuel
    12. For this medal I do NOT have ID, but than Shwe is wearing it on its second row of medal (1st from left). If any one could helps.I would be glad. Emmanuel
    13. That one is said to be : "A Man of Good Nation" from the National Museum lapel (in the museum there is no ribbon). General Than Shwe is wearing that medal on its second row of medal (2nd from left) from what is seem to be a turquoise blue ribbon with 2 dark blue edge stripes and maybe ??? one center dark blue stripe. If anyone could help for actual ribbon it would be nice, maybe Ed knows more about. That medal is easy to catch (but ribbon on mine is 100 % NOT correct) Emmanuel
    14. That one is Ye Bala, it's Police 3rd Highest Gallantry award. Mine is dated 1991 &ribbon is 100 % correct. Also very rare to catch (I remembered I paid 15 US $ in 2006), but when you watch ribbon worn by Police Servicemen or Officers you see the Good Public Service Medal ribbon & the Public Service for Long Service....sometimes the Law & Order Restauration.....but no such higher medal. Emmanuel
    15. For that one I now have a positive ID 100 %. It's Union of Myanmar State & Order Reasturation medal (it's the name from National Museum lapel). It's dated on reverse (mine was issued in 1984) & that one is hard to get. Emmanuel
    16. That medal with 2 Palms is said to be "Public Service Medal for Long Service" Also easy to get Emmanuel
    17. Hello Ilja that medal with 6 pointed star in the middle is said to be Good Public Service Medal (it is found very often) and ribbon is correct. Emmanuel
    18. I also got this fantastic : "Union of Burma Police Good Service First Class" attributed to U Aye Maung in 1322 ( last 8 months of 1960 to first 3 months of 1961 for us). It's not Long Service & Good Conduct, the text on reverse reads "Union of Burma Police Good Service". On obverse you have the words "Loyalty" at left hand side, " Concentration of the Mind" on right hand side & "Courage" on bottom. A fellow did some research for me (thanks Dave) and I got some text about it. With these information, I was able to make a sample of "reconstruction" of what should look like the ribbons. Of course I cannot guaranty that the shade of red & blue are accurate. I guess the red should be more burgundy than red. If anyone own such a ribbon, I would be very happy to purchase it. I guess a lot, a lot of such a medal were issued from the late 40ies to 1962 (Coup d'Etat of Ne Win), but how many have been melted ? Best regards. Emmanuel
    19. I got also this Medal for Excellent Performance in Social Field 3rd Class (I expect comment because the central device should be something like a lotus flower and NOT a star). But I bought it such a way. The central star device is not the same model as the 3 stars in the Medal of Excellent Performance in Managerial Fied. I was said that medal was awarded in 2012. Regards. Emmanuel
    20. I also got a Medal for Excellent Performance in Managerial Fied 1st Class (I was said the date on reverse correspond to 1990 ?)
    21. Hello Gentlemen, recently i was fortunate enough (I mean lucky enough) to get this award from Myanmar: Naing Ngant Gonyi 2nd Class (i was said 1st Class to be in gold, the 2 nd Class is metal gilt) It's not technically an Order but a title instituted in 2 classes in may 1980. Emmanuel

      MOZAMBIQUE

Hello Gentlemen, yes at least 1 update. Recently a very good fellow send this photo to me (awarded to a President of Portugal). Ordem Amizade & Paz do Mozambique It seems it can be worn on the breast (from a pentagonal style ribbon) or from a collar (see first post of this topic). Emmanuel
    23. Hello Gentlemen, I will soon go to Johannesburg, does anyone can give me some adress where I could buy some medals ? Regards. Emmanuel
