Austria-Hungary Thomas Crewe-Preston (Creve Preston)
Iver replied to Iver's topic in Austro-Hungarian Empire
...so some news... Kriegsarchive wrote, they will not do a recherche on him, they are taking part in many projects so dont have time for that (anwered in august 2014), from "ADLER" no answer... I wrote yesterday to military archive in Prague, maybe... Now the good news... I have spoken with the major of our city - they have money and will preserve the gravestone and put it in interior and a copy of it will be placed on the cemetary - in the occasion of 200. anniversary of birth of Thomas Creve Preston. also a brochure is planned about him and the reconstruction! I managed to find out some more details about his family, unfortunatly nothing about him or his family in england... but i am not giving it up... -

Austria-Hungary Hptm. Šafář Oskar - promotion decree
Iver posted a topic in Austro-Hungarian Empire
I have this decree in collection. Promotion decree to Hauptmann for Oberleutnant Å afaÅ™ Oskar of Sappeurbataillon Nr.9. So far I have found out, he volunteered to air force, Flik.2 and later Flik.9. In Serbia in 1915 he made his first two air victories (both observation baloons) as an observer/gunner - with pilot Oblt Adolf Heyrowsky. After finishing pilot school in october 1915 Chefpilot of Flik.6 on albanian and montenegrian front. In juni 1916 Commander of Flik.29 on russian front, where he achieved his third - and unfortunatly also last air victory on 19.8.1916 (when he covered up an inspection of Crownprince Archduke Karl). He downed an enemy fighter but was wounded, managed to land, but few days later (24.8.1916) died in a Field Hospital. He was awarded with EKO.3 with KD and LO-R with KD and swords (and another)... Any more informations/photos on this Officer please? Thanks Ivan -

Yes, really should be funeral piece. Is it possible to see your FJO?

..I think those pieces were rescued by slavic workers in the mint, as most of the medals were "found" in former czechoslovakia. The medal (when ordered from Montenegrian state) was ment to be awarded the soldiers in this war, but the oreder was abolished when the war breaked out and Montenegro became an enemy. But there was a strong "panslavic" feeling, most by the czech peaople of Austria-Hungary - and I think they took those medals... But thats only my opinion...

Hi. There should be 35.000 issued, but they were made in Austria-Hungary in the time of beginn of WWI, so all of them should be destroyed, but some pieces were "rescued"... in the article I have seen are mentioned 23 pieces, but I have heard that there are some more cca 200, but don´t know for sure, as i am not collecting Montenegro... My medal is on a white trifold ribbon with red stripes (see photo)... But I have seen also photo with this medal on an "tricolora" (red-bleu-white) ribbon...
