    1. I guess I've been reading too much Boonzaier... I've decided to add a couple Minenwerfer items to my collection. Any special Minenwerfer units I should look for? Or is one mortarman like any other? My current default is to look for a unit in a particular battle...although I haven't decided which one.
    2. I can confirm Uwe's information in post #3. I bought mine, which is exactly like the one in the original post #1, in 1983-84 when I visited the Reichstag as a tourist. Probably cost DM 2 or 3 at the time. No idea where it's squirreled away now ... in one of many boxes of old souvenirs and photographs probably. I'm amused when I see these on eBay offered as some sort of "vintage badge."
    3. Recent milestones: TacHel - 5009; Brian Wolfe 4500; Laurence Strong 4000. Posts that is... Well done, old men!

    5. I never had females in my artillery units, as I was always in cannon units. I did have them in my staff jobs. Although, I did my cadet troop leading time at Fort Gordon basic training for signal soldiers and there, of course, were women.
    6. Ed, didn't see the Hood story. Here are a couple others you might be interested in... First female battery commander in an Field Artillery battalion, 2012 - she's in a 155mm towed unit - 1st Battalion (Air Assault) 377th Field Artillery Regiment: http://www.army.mil/article/85806/ First five females in 2-4 FA at Fort Sill; another MLRS unit: http://www.army.mil/article/112980/
    7. Actually, this news information is a bit inaccurate. Since the late 1970s women could serve in long-range missile units (e.g. Pershing), which are Field Artillery units. They could also be in FA units as surveyors. I had women officers in my FA basic course in '82. They just could not be assigned to battalion or lower cannon units. So, you could have them at FA Brigades. So, we've had women in the Field Artillery for a long time. (Even longer if you count Molly Pitcher.) Also, starting in the late 70s, women could serve at combat brigade level; in the mid-90s the Assistant Brigade S2 in my infantry brigade in the 10th Mountain Division was a woman. Also the MP Platoon leader attached to the Brigade was a woman. Now, women can be assigned to battalion and below FA units; the women to which you refer are in a MLRS unit.
