    1. Welcome to the forum, if you like Mongolian awards this is the place to be. Thanks for your contribution, very nice doc, don't hesitate to post more, or to ask any questions. As a wise man once said: "there are no stupid questions only stupid answers" Jan
    2. The 1st class also has four main types. There is a light enamel/order style pinback variation and a dark enamel/simple pinback one. Cfr. 2nd class Jan
    3. These are indeed the 4 main types, this goes for the first class aswell. There are however many, many more variations, based on the design style of the "1" or the "2", the opacity of the enamel and the calligraphy of the serial number (for the types with rotating tool serials). I have tried to catalogue all the different variations, but lack of items to study, and the bad quality of the photos of the ones I could study, has seriously diminished my courage, let alone my eyesight. Maybe one day.... Jan
    4. If I remember well, you were the one who was very proud to announce the you had the new lowest serial number, so it must have WOW-ed you at least a little
    5. I can honestly not imagine why you think a soviet znachki would make this great Mongolian thread more interesting, pfff Jan Thanks for the 40th MPR scan
    6. Variation 2 Uighur inscription also on the cover
    7. Well, I don't own a doc , but I have pix of 3 doc variations . This is the first, no inscriptions on the cover, uighur writing Jan
    8. The ones I have, gold and silver, all have the Monetnyi Dvor screwnut as shown in post 1 Jan
    9. Hi Guys, My first careful step on the slippery slope, a RAO marked "W". I know the question stinks, but could anyone give me an approximate value on this item? Secondly, would it be possible to find a piece of contemporary ribbon somewhere. Thanks Jan
    10. I was talking about the Croix the guerre 1939 that was, apart from being produced in france, also made in some north african countries, the UK and in Italy. Precise info for the exact production locations for this or that variation is still an issue for debate. I'll post some pix in another thread later, to show what I meant. Jan
    11. Great, could you show a pic of the reverse please? Jan
    12. Here's some "production run" info, Alexei Merzheko provided on the Soviet-Awards forum: "the first several pieces were made at the Leningrad mint. Till 1944 LM produced a limited number of badges, and a large order was placed with the Moscow Artistic Cooperative. In 1944 LM was evacuated to Krasnokamsk, where production has continued. In 1944 they planned to make 3000 pieces, but made only 6; there is no data for 1945, and only limited data for 1946 - in March-September 5504 pieces were made. According to Borisov some pieces were made in solid silver." Jan
    13. Aha, you found a new slippery slope jan
    14. One might add, still according to Dr Battushig, that from 1959 onward for army and police staff following standards were set: 10 years of distinguished service Combat Service medal 15 years of distinguished service Combat Service order Jan
    15. Ed, do you have the measurments of this badge? I believe it is quite a bit larger that the more common KhChT type Thanks Jan
    16. That seems to be the same friend as in the pic in post 3 Jan
    17. And last for now, a partisan/Khanlkhin Gol veteran and a ceremony at the Zaizen monument
    18. More recent Bottom pic is really great, with a sports hero, a military hero, a revolutionary hero (Partisan) and a labour hero, ol
