So where we were? Aha! Medal from collection of American Numismatic Society… Yes. The one that was sold on April 26, 2007 (somewhere between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm) in London (Morton & Eden of course). Sold for 1150 pounds (without commission). But why ANS did such a terrible thing… Sold its “precious”? Because “…despite this "avalanche" of new artifacts, both public and institutional interest was increasingly limited. From the 1970s on, the orders and decorations, especially the non-American portions of the collection, were exhibited less frequently. While the fine collection of American medals and badges were still occasional subjects for study, researchers largely ignored the European and Asian orders and decorations. The Decorations, Insignia and War Medals committee became inactive and by the late 1990s, was officially discontinued. Consequently, the Society ultimately made the difficult decision to de-accession the non-American portions of the collection and to make them available for the benefit of other museums, collectors and scholars”.

Stuck? Such rare piece of history?! Well, this "sexing up" looks more or less professional to me (although I don't like the looks of "sexing up" of pink ribbon). I am inclined to think that this is an "official" variation of "green ribbon" (influenced by 1928 Showa enthronement medal?). Do you have this one in your collection?

Well, the 2nd class breast star simply have better preserved gold gilt (most likely because it was less subjected to sun or any others external factors). Japanese gold gilt (on pre WWII orders) have a tendecy to "burn out"

Yep, now these two kites (badge and breast star) have exactly the same gilt!

By the form of the suspension, style of the kanji on reverse, surface, paint colour, little tiny details here and there, etc ... I thought it`s obvious especially after these two threads (one devoted to the replicas and another to the original medal)
