    1. An old post that has seen several revivals - and rightly so. I knew very little about them - these threads and Ed's links have been very helpful. They are to be admired for their smartness and dedication to their Unit. Sometimes we tend to think only the British Guards Division carry out important ceremonial duties. Mervyn
    2. Always great when we can have a 'round robin' of opinion - and come to a conclusion. I was about to add that the tag was part of British ID - a strange type of pressed material that had the details stamped-in. Thankyou Trooper_D for telling us the details. Mervyn
    3. Peter - it's not what you know - in Britain it has always been - who you know.........
    4. From what I can make out - L.I. PARSONS PROT. (Protestant) LIEUT. (LIEUTENANT) M.O.R.C. (or, G) U.S.A. Irish - I am sorry that no-one has answered your enquiry. I have set out the details on the Tag and hope that someone will be able to help. I feel that he was probably attached to a special unit - or, Command. Mervyn
    5. Thankyou Jean-Paul. I wonder if any of our Aussie Members have received an Award - please tell us if you have. Mervyn
    6. A terrrible disgrace for him. I think one of the problems is that there are many false 'colleges' set-up, who 'award' high sounding diplomas and Degrees. I feel that part of the blame lies with the Company - or, Govt. body who made the appointment without first checking. In South Africa this is a very serious problem - they seem to discover Judges and Ministers on a daily basis , with false references. The Authorities never seem to take any action - just appoint another Committee of Enquiry. Mervyn
    7. Thankyou Jean-Paul - always makes interesting reading. Mervyn
    8. I agree it does look a bit battered and parts are missing. Do some close-ups and let's see what the experts think. Mervyn
    9. Life was obviously much simpler in those days. Did he really get $64,000 ? That was a fortune in those days. Mervyn
    10. Can you tell us why these personal items were sold in the first place ? This is an old post - however, I hope you are succesful in re-uniting some of the pieces. Should you not get any replies, please contact me - we may be able to make contact on your behalf. Mervyn
    11. Kev - Were you succesful in your bid ? I think one of our helmet experts should be allowed to comment and to make a positive identification. For myself, I would think it would be worthwhile having it restored, and the badge re-enamelled. However, let's first hear what the experts think. Mervyn
    12. Hugh - fond memories from the 50's - I used to listen to the 64$ Question on Aust. Radio. What was the answer to the question ? I would have said a muddy grey...... The record was splendid and thankyou for making an attachment - I hope other members will take the time to listen. I would think pre-war - what was interesing is it just says German Band , the actual recording was made in Japan. Best wishes Mervyn
    13. Kev - will hold fingers for you. Mervyn

The catalogue is so thick that it is difficult to photograph - each photo will show the full page inclusive of the written details and prices.
    20. Thankyou for that extra information Paul. I hope other members will comment - I am interested to see if my suggestion that many Americans have never seen one, has any truth ? Mervyn
    21. Ed - once again Happy Birthday. These cast silver decorative badges are really superb - both in quality and appearance. They will look great in a frame to go on your desk. A dark royal blue will set them off. Mervyn
    22. Thankyou Dave for pointing out they are not 'stars' - I don't think I ever enlarged them. If it is British, then I agree, green is a strange background. However, Australia does use this colour, so may just be worth asking.. With King's Crown it will probably turn out to be one of the many organisations they had in those days. Mervyn
    23. Blueman - have you posted the full helmet for this badge, previously ? Should you have a picture available, it will help with identification. This is a lovely helmet plate - with a little damage to the enamel background. It is for King William 4th - although it could also cover the Reign of George 4th. Firstly though, I must point out that it is not for a British Regiment - the Lion has the Guelphic Crown - so is part of the King's Royal German Legion. We can be fairly sure of the date - we gave up using the coat-of-arms showing our claim to France with the Fleur de Lis in 1801 and introduced one that was centrally quartered with the Electoral Cap of Hanover - the Royal Family being of German Descent from Hanover. However, in 1816 Hanover became a Kingdom and the Cap became a Crown. This dates the Badge between 1816 and 1837 when the Arms changed for Queen Victoria. The Crown for the Georgian Kings tends to be quite rounded on the sides - whereas, William 4th made them more angular. I am fairly confidant that this will be with-in the reign of William and this was 1830 - 37. Without seeing the helmet I don't think we can add much more. Best wishes Mervyn
    24. Jerry , you are probably an experienced 'poster' on other Forums - you will then, understand that many members like to read, but won't always reply. This is a great pity , but if it is a subject they are not familiar with then they read, enjoy, probably learn - but, won't reply in case they make a mistake. When we do get a subject that people can join-in on , then it is great fun to see the different opinions. My feeling , is that if I make a mistake and it is pointed out - then good, at least someone is interested. I do hope that you will make further posts on the RWF - they are a famous Regiment and deserve our attention. Thankyou. Mervyn
