    1. Dima, Here are the pics of both 1000 Subs Badges. This one with the anchor is a 3 pieces Badge (the Sub + the Flag + the anchor), the other a 2 pieces Badge! Dolf
    2. Dima, Thank you very much for your help and clarifications. Yes, I'm scanning the reverse of both "1000" Badges and will post the pics in a few minutes. Dolf
    3. I have EatG, and was fascinated the 1st time I saw it. Still like to watch it from time to time, mainly for a few scenes, such as the panoramic view of the city, seen from the left bank of the Volga when Zaitsev gets out of the train, or the Stuka attacking the boats during the river crossing... Pretty well done, and as far as I can imagine there are chances those scenes are not far from the real thing. But each time I watch it again I'm shocked by the anti Soviet feelings of director J.J.Annaud! And most of the dialogues they are so poor and so much the Hollywood style, so far from the Russian/Soviet way Can't remember where exactly but I've read somewhere that people from Volgograd (WWII Vets included) decided either to interdict the movie to be shown in theatres there, and/or if shown it should be followed by a real documentary of the real Battle... As for the girl, well, Rachel Weisz has indeed a special charm... Dolf
    4. And finally, a hat Badge. The quality is amazing for just a simple hat Badge! Dolf

    15. As suggested by Gerd, some more detailed pics of Soviet (apparently some are post Soviet era) Ships & Subs Badges. I don't know much about these Badges so any help and opinions would be most welcome. It seems these were for Ships & Subs Commanders. I have them either in a kind of gold color and a kind of silver color. I've read somewhere that the colors have to do with the rank, but I can't remember where I've read that and I'm not sure of this. In both cases, some have a flatback, others are mirror reverse. Not sure what they are made of, probably brass I guess. The star looks to be enamel. Dolf PS: Ok, found the info I was missing about the colors. According to another fellow collector "... The silver (bottom) are issued to the CO's of ships and subs; the gilt (top) are issued to commanders of groups of ships or subs (Captians 1st rank and admirals)... "
    16. Hi Gerd, You mean posting each ships & subs Badges individually? In most cases they are very similar, only the colors may change, golden/brass and silver (colors!) or some slight "nuances", and the reverse, either flat or mirror reverse. I'll try posting a few examples later. Notice that I don't know much about them either, just got them a few years ago because I had the opportunity to buy them all from the same seller, but not really my field I must check what a couple of people told me about these on the S-A Forum. You mean the display itself (another one from Indian River, as mentioned above on my reply to Dan, only a different size: 12 x 9 x 2", the only one I have of that size) or the content?!... Also have one 12 x 10 x 2", which I use for my 6 Orders of the Red Banner, as shown on another thread. Dolf
    17. Dan, I guess I posted the link somewhere, just didn't check where right now So, Indian River, here: http://members.aol.com/janiew48/index.html I like their quality a lot, as well as the price, the only thing that increases the price quite a lot in my case being in Europe is the damn shipping costs... In your case, being located in the US, you can obviously save a lot of $$ on that The display used for the Soviet Medals is the 18 x 24 x 2" Walnut. The other size I use for most displays is the 12 x 18 x 2". I have 2 "riker mounts", also made by Indian River, but obviously I prefer the wood displays by far Dolf
    18. Display of Post #7 updated. Soviet, Chinese, Cuban, North Korean, Afghani, Yugoslavian Badges & Medals. Dolf
