    6. This is the best I can do on the cap badge. [attachmentid=53521]
    7. Firemedals Thank you for the information. The cap badge is very unclear in the photo. I assumed he was a GAR veteran from his age - 50+ years from the end of the civil war to end of WWI vs 20+ years from the end of Spanish American war. The other soldier might be either a PFC or Corporol. There is a shadow above the rank stripe that looks like it could be a second stripe, but then again it might be just a shadow! Thanks again, Mark [attachmentid=53519]
    8. And a close up of the civil war veteran. It is not clear in the photo but I am guessing the cap badge is GAR, or Grand Army of the Republic. Are the medals for GAR reunions? [attachmentid=53500]
    9. Close up of the corporal. [attachmentid=53499]
    10. I picked up this old photo while I was on vacation a few weeks back and thought I would post it for others to see. It is nothing flashy or fancy, it just reminded me of so many photos of German soldiers that I thought it unique. No markings or names of any kind, but from the uniforms I am guessing the elder gentleman on the left is a civil war veteran and the corporal on the right a WWI veteran. Can anyone ID the medals the civil war veteran is wearing? Regards, Mark [attachmentid=53498]
    11. I was looking at the bar trying to find out why the St. Alexander was slightly loose. I looked behind the ribbon and discovered a set of swords peering back! At some point the ring had slipped its threads detaching the award. Someone, in an effort to keep from losing the medal, had slipped the swords device behind the ribbon to keep it in place. As the securing threads were still tied it was a quick fix to properly remount the St. Alexander as it was originally attached. [attachmentid=53168] I am curious to hear what other members think about this combination of awards. I know it is non-IDable but would this have been to an Wurttemberg military offical of some sort? Regards, Mark
    12. I bought this bar as it has a very unusual combination of awards om it: 1914 EK2 WKrzX BL ?M3K BA 5 The bar is a little dirty, and the St Alexander has a small crack in the lower arm of the cross but it is pure WWI. [attachmentid=53164]
    13. Christophe The seller lists the last ribbon as being a REK 4. What were you thinking it might be? Regards, Mark
    14. Paul That is hard to say. Those ranks were awarded the REK with crown. While I have never seen either of these level on a ribbon bar I suspect that the device would have had a swords and crown, similar to the Bavarian method on the MVK's. Regards, Mark
    15. Currently listed on Evilbay.de - all yours for the mere starting price of 499 Euros. [attachmentid=52999] [attachmentid=53000]
    16. Paul Per David's website: On January 9, 1915, a "war ribbon" of yellow with red and black stripes near each edge was authorized. Prior to this, all awards, including swords awards, were on an amaranth ribbon. After this, the war ribbon was used for awards with swords and for non-swords awards which were for merit on the homefront in support of the war effort. This applied to ALL grades of the award, 1st class down to the silver merit medal. Regards, Mark
    17. Paul A couple things stuck me as being odd about this bar. 1). Shouldn't the crown device on the RAO have red the enamel in the crown? 2).The Reuss is a statute ribbon with swords? Possibly legit as they did exist but only for a very short time before switching to the war ribbon. 3). Why are the SEHO and Reuss w/S behind the centennial? Could be a thrifty upgrade from peacetime awards to war time awards but could also be something else. I can not make out clearly the color of the swords on the Reuss but why do you feel that it can only be a 1st or 4th class award, and not a more likely 3rd class? Regards, Mark
