    1. Reminds me of a guy I worked with in Formula 1 who used to tell everyone in the pub that he was a test driver????He actually cleaned the F1 factory lol... Did you hear about the one armed fisherman bragging in the pub...he caught a fish this big.....
    2. I presume from this that I can display a degree I haven't earned or other qualifications? I agree this is somewhat confusing given the Stolen Valor Act doesn't allow for this kind of thing. One would assume that when you saw a service person with medals or especially ribbons you would be able to see what level of service they had served their country and what campaigns they had been in.
    3. Here are some of the medals I added to my USA medal collection during 2015. Top left: Boxed Purple heart (unnumbered/unnamed). This came with the note (Below) from Robert P Patterson who was Secretary of War Sept 1945 to July 47 making this a post war award. The box has a name tag attached but I cannot make out the name? Aloysius??? Top centre: Boxed Air Medal with wrap suspender. no name. Top right: Silver Star #97502. Bought the box and ribbon separate to the medal but looks good in my collection. Bottom Left: Distinguished service cross, unnamed or numbered. I believe this is made by "Robbins Co" circa 1944-45. Bottom Right: My most recent acquisition, a Navy Cross with wrap suspender. View of the box lids. Reverse view of the medals.
    4. Memory jogger seeing the above, I have this singular Air Force Cross in my collection.
    5. Hi Hugh, by the look of the "Black" loop ribbon suspender this was made by The Robbins Co, Attleboro, Mass. I have 2 of these with the same ribbon suspender but the medals are unnumbered and were made circa 1944-45. I believe that due to the amount of medals being manufactured in WW2 that numbers were stopped at some point during the war to help increase production time. No doubt the one you have is probably pre 1944? Nice medal by the way...
    6. I bought one similar a few weeks ago and found it had a crack in the lower arm? The medal had been cast and not die struck. The edge had a rim mark and was not smooth or marked where the die had punched through the metal. Fortunately I was able to recover the money I paid as I had bought it at a local medal fair.
    7. Thanks Rogi much appreciated...I'm okay for now with numbered medals just need a picture of a split wrap brooch? I am also after collecting a split wrap brooch medal of sorts so may be able to buy one (at the right price) for my collection.
    8. Oh well if you can't borrow em, buy em...one I picked up earlier.
    9. I've recently acquired a job lot of American military ribbons and amongst them was a medal of honor ribbon marked NS Meyer M22 on the rear. The stitching on the stars looks like it was hand finished but is very different from the Graco version I have and also another un-named version. Anyone ever seen one like this before? Graco G27 Version Un-named version
    10. Thanks Tim, appreciate your input. Strange how the older reverse was put on the second campaign though? Anyways no great shakes with these 3. Left & right were freebies and I bought cheaply I may add the centre one because of it being different from the other.
    11. I have a set of 3 U.S. Nicaraguan service medals one of which is somewhat confusing. Left is a 1912 unnumbered medal for the first Nicaraguan campaign. Middle & right are medals for the second campaign 1926 to 1930. Middle one is on a loop suspender but with the older type reverse which is strange as this was changed on all Navy and Marine Corp medals in 1916 to the one on the modern day issue on the right. Middle reverse looks different as the eagles wings are bigger and the wording "For Service" is straight and not curved like the first issue left? Anynone any ideas about this centre medal? Quality of issue is very good, a well made medal.
    12. Thanks Tim I have one picture I need to get permission for. One of the reasons I asked was to make sure whomever allowed me to use their picture I would acknowledge but point taken and I will review all the pictures before I send to the publisher and if in doubt leave it out. I thought it only right though to ask permission as I have posted pictures on this forum before and seen them used by others. Now I don't mind but would have been nice to be asked first but there you have it.
    13. Many thanks to feldjager for supplying some pictures....top man.
    14. Hi everyone sorry for the recent absence, all work and no play etc, anyways I have request to ask. Does anyone have any pictures I can borrow/copy please of either a numbered Purple Heart or Silver Star or even both? I only require the numbered edge of the medal for a book I am about to hopefully publish on U S military medals. I will of course acknowledge the owner of the pictures. Have already spoken to a publisher but need to finish off and cross the T' s and dot the lower case j's. Many thanks in advance.
    15. Recently acquired this Airmans Medal on a slotted brooch. Has the maker mark Simon NYC stamped on the side. This is I believe the same company as E H Simon and Simco. I haven't seen this mark before but research suggests that they are one and the same and they produced the Airmans Medal stamped Simon NYC. I have an Antartica service medal stamped E H Simon and a Vietnam Service stamped Simco. I would date this circa early sixties possibly. The medal itself was authorised 1960. I also have a Navy/Marine Corp Achievement Medal on a slot brooch the medal being authorised 1961.
    16. Great Display and there's me thinking I had a lot of US medals?
    17. Here is my collection of John Player "Navy Cut" Cigarette Tins. I have a packet of 10 with some originals still in it and a tin especially made for BOAC, British Overseas Airways Corp. 2 of the larger tins are the same design but the lettering colour is different, one the more commonly found red and the other blue?
    18. Very nice collection of chocolate and cigarette tins. I have seen the Boer War Cadburys tin quite a few times at car boot sales and flea markets. Always highly priced though. I have in my collection some Cadbury chocolate tins from Coronations and KGV Jubilee. I know these are non military but thought I'd share them with you. Top left is 1902 King Edward VII Coronation, right is 1911 King George V Coronation. Inside is a note marked, present from the Mayor of Borough of Kensington, London. Bottom is King George V Silver Jubilee 1935 from the Mayor of Coventry. All i believe contained chocolate but contents long gone.
    19. Hi Mervyn, I've been collecting these various and interesting badges since I started collecting these past ten years or so. Most are from car boot sales and antique/collectors fairs. A side line to militaria collecting. The sweetheart badge with the bow is for the Royal Army Service Corp which my father served in WW2. I can't resist a good badge especially at the right price and the right content of course. That's the problem with this bug we have...when to buy or not to buy....still I could spend my cash on wine, women and song....er hang on I've already done that.........happy trails and a Happy New Year.
