    1. That's a nice pairing and remembers Pte Fields' sacrifice. Do you have any of his other medals?
    2. Whilst enjoying the British Summer on my vacation to Somerset I found this latest addition to my USA medal collection in a Collectibles/Antique shop. Soldiers medal for valor on a loop suspender brooch. Been after one of these for sometime, It is un-named and un-numbered.
    3. Very nice pair of bino's and worth a lot of money! The Germans were very protective of their binocular manufacturers during the war and introduced codes, Emil Busch (cxn) of Rathenow and Carl Zeiss (blc) being two of many makers. Do they still work? Are the optics nice and clear?
    4. I have found some information on the web that suggests this could date from the 1960's? I know the medal was established July 1960 and I have seen boxed ones marked the same dated 1964.
    5. Picture showing makers mark E H SIMON on rim next to the suspension.
    6. Just acquired this medal for my USA collection and its a beauty! Antarctica Service Medal on a 12mm crimp with the makers mark "E H SIMON". I am assuming E H Simon is the same manufacturer as Simco, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong? Can this medal be dated owing to the impression of E H Simon?
    7. It looks like a Ishapor made rifle looking at the bolt. I cannot decipher the markings too well as the metalwork has been lacquered but can make out the 1917. You are correct in that these rifles were converted for Riot Control so this may have been one of those, trouble is I don't live in an area where we have any Riot's so will have to stick to Squirrel control instead.
    8. I also have a 1911 SMLE Deactivated. Shown underneath the 410.
    9. Just acquired a Lee Enfield SMLE dated 1917 which has been converted to a .410 shotgun. A friend of mine has given up shooting and came round to see me and gave me this Gratis! How could I refuse and yes I do have a licence and cabinet for it. He said I would appreciate it as he knew I collected deact's and other Militaria. So not only do I have a SMLE but I can fire it live albeit with a .410 cartridge. Does anyone else have one of these or similar that they shoot with?
    10. I have also just recently picked up these two. 1917-19 Honorable service Westfield New Jersey and the Pennsylvania National Guard 1916 Mexican Border service medal which is numbered 15921.
    11. Made by the Robbins Company of Attleboro, Massachusetts a First World War veterans service medal complete with box of issue and service ribbon. I believe there are other state medals for WW1 service, does anyone have any information on this?
    12. Other view of the grenade showing filler cap. Looks like someone has tried to remove it in the past?
    13. Bought this WW1 Training Grenade from a local collectibles/antique shop. It is dated on the bottom plate 1916. Made by S.B & Co Ltd and is a mark 5. There are also some casting marks on the main body. Striker, spring and primer are all there and it does work as, in it strikes the "Inert" primer. I have researched the S.B & Co but cannot find any information on the net?
    14. Weave! Thats the word I was looking for. Thanks for that information much appreciated. Any ideas as to its age?
    15. recently acquired these 2 asiatic pacific campaign medals and they have some difference? These differences are in the thickness, the ribbons and the brooch suspenders? Left hand is thicker than the other, ribbon cotton is horizontal as they all are normally but the right hand one is vertical? Brooch is 12mm crimp on the left and 9mm crimp on the right which would suggest a modern striking but the ribbon is one the likes I've never seen before? Left hand one is very detailed, right not so but both are the same diameter? No maker marks on either medal.
    16. Two more whistles I've acquired recently. Left hand A DeCourcy 1917 Trench Whistle, Right ACME Scout Master.
    17. The types are usually British and German although there are medals from other nations. The types of US medals vary but the majority are the modern issue type but if you look hard enough you can find the odd original issue for the right price. I actually bought a nice Purple Heart from the medal fair which has the loop suspender, not numbered but detail and finish is of a high quality. George Washington bust is well detailed and his coat of arms has been soldered into position. A nice medal.
    18. I like it as well, thats why I have waited unti l could find a good example to acquire. I have been to a medal fair today but there never seems to be a good selection of U S medals which is a shame as they are a interesting area to collect and reflect on the history of the U S Forces and the conflicts in which they have served.
