    1. Ronny, Your tab looks fine to me. I would have to agree with Jos, one can not condemn a tab because of the material or the oddity of the gulls, wreath etc. I have seen many different variations in the material used to make tabs, the stiffner and the artisitcness of the gulls/wreath. You can have buckram or lacquered cardboard etc. Some gulls are nice looking others are quite ugly. Additionally I also have a set of Enlisted flight tabs where the gulls are embroidered on to the yellow background material i.e. no metal gulls. These are the only set I have seen like these. Also I liked the other Flak tabs pictured. Gary B
    2. Mike, Nice to see you on this forum! As you can see I just joined a week or so ago. I intended to tell you, David and Spencer about it after I had seen how the site is. So far I have been most pleased. The Eng tabs are a super set. I still kick myself for not buying all of your Eng tabs and the other tabs you had. Still got the aluminum helmet? David said it sold. Definitely wil be seeing you at SOS and assisting you on spending some of that money I have sent you!!!! Gary
    3. Ooops. Nice catch. Of course they are tabs for a for MAJ to promoted to LTC Gary B
    4. One more for tonight that should raise some eyebrows..... These tabs are still sewn together in one corner so they are unissued. For some reason (if you look closely) you can see that the original tabs were for a 2LT (had 1 bullion gull) which was carefully removed. In place of this 2 metal gulls were added to make it a 1LT tab. I have a picture of a similar type of tabs in wear. These were from the Geroge Peterson collection. Gary B
    5. Hi, Attached are a nice pair of unissued Eng tabs in their original cellophane. Gary B
    6. Thanks for the comments! I was actually lucky enough to buy this last bar from a friend who was disposing of his collection. I only have a few bars with foreign awards in them. I really like them since the enamel "brightens" up the TR bar. I will try to post more later. I just missed out on a nice Austriam mounted (triangular) Schinkel EK2.... Gary B
    7. Hi Rick, There are 2 types of Order of the Crown classfied as Type 1 and Type 2. They differ in that on the Type 1 medal (1881-1932) the Kings mongram is between the arms of the cross with the crown serves as the central medallion. If the Type 1 award had swords it indicated bravery in war or military merit in times of peace. On the Type 2 (1932-1947) the monogram and crown are reversed, ie. the monogram is in the center medallion and the crown is in between the arms. In 1938 a military division was created for the Type 2 award and included the swords and crown devices between the arm. The ribbon for the Type 2 award was blue with a central silver stripe. In times of war a yellow/gold stripe on each edge was added. If the Type 2 medal was awarded for bravery the ribbon became blue and red. As for your rosette, officers grades for the Type 1 award were indicated with a silver and blue rosette (the ribbon on the Type 1 was blue with 2 silver stripes). A crown at the top of the award indicates Knights grade. Confusing isnt it??!! So I am not sure what my guy did to get this. He obviously was an officer serving in a peace time capactiy since his award is without swords. It was also prior to the war since he does not have the gold stripes on the ribbon. Naval attache?? Post below your reply is my other Third Reich bar with the Order of the crown with gold stripes and swords. Hope this helped??!! Gary B
    8. Dear Paul, I just checked my GO tabs, the ones on the original cardboard (the ones I pictured with the NSFK tabs), and they have the yellow/gold thread used to attach the twisted cord to the tabs. Just FYI. Gary
    9. Hi, Nice piece. I have one on the non combatant ribbon with the same shaped mounting. It reminds me of the pentagonal mounts the Russian medals are on. Gary B
    10. Dear Paul, I had one "small" problem on the bidding war....I lost! One other thing I noticed on the GO tabs. The white thread on the reverse which holds the bullion twisted cord to the tab is a brilliant white and does not appear consistent with the dirt on the rest of the white. Just somehting to think about. Gary
    11. Hi Paul, Saw your PM and just found the thread. : ) Its hard to tell about the GO tabs. I have only handled a few sets (own one which I pictured in another thread) so I have no great experience in these. As for centering on the tabs I have seen plenty of lower rank tabs that were fine but were not centered so I would not be overly concerned about that. The white material looks unusual to me, as does the distribution of the dirt. Since these are handmade I would expect variations among them. As has been mentioned look for quality, you will be able to tell best when you get them in hand. Some tabs used 2 tone bullions to accent the details. I cant tell if this is the case on these. jason Burmeister has a nice tarnished pair of tabs if you can wait till the SOS to make your choice. You might want to also look at Winklers site. He has several pair of GO Luft tabs there. At least it wil be a point of comparison. I dont know much about the shoulder boards you asked about. Contact Garth Thompson. he has a really nice selection of tabs and boards and might be able to assist. Oh, I believe I was bidding against you yesterday. I only noticed after I submitted my bid...sorry about that! I needed a nice EK/WW ribbon bar to match a medal bar I have! Gary B
    12. Thnkas Paul. I sent you a PM. Not sure if you got it. I am getting used to the new forum procedures. Gary
    13. Hi Paul, Just added the pictures. New program and I am trying to figure it out.... Gary B
    14. Hi Paul (sent you a PM), I do recall the PaulMedic name. I was in the Infantry and served as a volunteer EMT for a few years. Attached are a few nice tabs. General officer tabs still attached to the cardboard salesman card. The tabs below that are an unissued set for SA Group 9. I still have the dealers name and have thought about contacting him, but I am not sure if they are real. My son (10) was really pushing for me to get them. Heck its not his money! Gary
    15. Bill, Yes I do. I really like the Engineer tbas, too bad they are so hard to come by! I need 3 more to complete the series, not including the GO tab. Gary
    16. Bill, The single tab was selling for $500. I am sure he would have come down. I examined the tab and I did not see any thing that stood out as bad on it, but then again there is not much to fake on these things. There was some glue spots on the reverse of the tab where it appeared to have been in a album. The style looked very similar to Garths set of 2 blade Gen officer bullion tabs (formerly from Mike Heuer's collection and I belive from George Peterson prior to that) Gary B
    17. Hi Paul (didn't you go buy "medic" at one time???), I am still at work but if I have time when I get home I will try to post them. As I recall they are similar to the one shown in the thread. I have only seen Rsv Flight/Eng and flak. I can not imagine how many different types of waffenfarbe there are when you put all of the different combinations toghether. ONe wuold never get them all. Also I did examine a single General officer Engineer tab (Gold 3 bladed prop) at the Max. It is the only one I have ever seen. Garth has 2 sets of the 2 bladed GO Engineer variety. I wonder if I should have picked up the 3 blade one...I just hate gettgin singles. Gary B
    18. Hi Guys, Good thread (no pun intended). Paul to answer your question ref the snap attachement; it was used (not very often) as a method for quick removal of the tabs when the uniform was sent to the cleaners. I have only seen a few sets of Luft tabs with the snaps. (I believe Luftguy has a set of Eng tabs with snaps _if he bought these from Germany he beat me to it!). You also see screwback attachements on tabs for the same purpose. These are usually seen (whenn you find them) on SS tabs. Luft guy has the only set of reserve Eng tabs that I have ever seen. Quite rare indeed. I have 4 sets of the flight reserve. One hardly sees reserve tabs and if you do they seem to be singles. Gary B
    19. Rick and Rick, Attached is a picture of the reverse of the bar in question. The devices are tight and do not wiggle. Through small spaces between the bar I can see that the ribbons were mounted over a tabbed metal frame with a whole in it so I dont know why the devices are uneven. (I can see the whole on the Czech Occ ribbon piece) Gary
    20. Thanks Rick. So no wonder no one could figure it out. So it is a put together piece? Gary B
    21. Hi, This is my first thread here, as I just signed up to the forum today. Rick recommended I post this bar here to get some help in identifying the 2nd ribbon. Attached is the bar. Thanks in advance. 2nd ribbon bar has goldish border. Gary B
