Hello gentlemen, the year ends and I had some time... At the beginning of this year I bought this medalbar (quite cheap). The Red Eagle Order and the Order of the Crown were missing This ripped bar lay in a showcase in my living room and each time, when I looked into, I got remembered to restore it. Before restoring:

Yes, you are absolutely right! The stamp for these crosses was made by Friedrich Brehmer at the "Koenigliche M?nze in Hannover". The first crosses were made by Carl B?sch, who made many of the awards of Lippe-Detmold (and of course Schaumburg-Lippe!). It?s interesting to compare the Hannoverian awards with the awards from Lippe-Detmold Greetings Solomon

3) His wound badge with the document. He got seriously wounded twice times 1) Battle of Verdun : In June 1915 a shot broke his leg. 2) Battle of Aisne-Champagne: In May 1917 he was hit in back, right arm, left hand and right eye by a grenade. The military merit medal is missing, but some other documents survived... Greetings Solomon

Yes, but he died, when I was six. I have over 120 (very rare) photos from him, when he was a sailor on the "SMS Danzig" and about 20 -30 photos when he was in the army in WW II (Infantery -tank hunter). With these "Marine-Feldpost"-letters and photos I was able to identify the FA-cross Oldenburg, he awarded in WW I. But I?m still searching for the documents of his awards... There is no hint on his career on u-boat, exept a few photos which show his Imperial u-boat-award. (I have his original award in my collection) Greetings Solomon

Here is my contribution... Indeed the war merit cross Lippe-Detmold is a "parallel" award to the EK II ...but there don?t exist different classes The often called "1st class" is the war honor cross for heroic deeds Lippe-Detmold, but there was no need to award the war merit cross before! The heroic deeds cross maybe comparable with this EK I Prussia... Greetings Solomon

I asked, because I?m nearly an expert of the military merit medal There is a simple explanation: The military merit medal (MVM) is mounted in a absolut correct way! ? 3 of the statutes says: The MVM has to be mounted before the silver merit medal...the place at the bar is correct! The missing medal is also simply explained: After the owner awarded the war merit cross, he had to give the MVM back! This point is almost unknown, even the "Marschallamt Lippe" didn?t know it for sure and wrote some letters to the "Milit?rkabinett Lippe". I saw all the files dealing with that, and I have copies, which prove it. Please look at my scan... The swords on the ribbon are a symbol for a war-time award...it?s none of the 4 awards, which came with "silver swords on the ribbon"...the 4 persons were all colonial fighters. Greetings Solomon

Hello Gaffken, your Leopold-Order (pinback-cross) is the 1st model (OEK 1146), which was awarded between January, 14th. 1909 and February, 20th 1910. It replaced the Leopold-Order with the crown at the ribbon, which was awarded from May, 30th 1907 till August, 27th 1907 (4 awards). The 2nd model (with enamaled violet arms) of the Leopold-Order with the crown (also a pinback-cross) was awarded between June, 2nd 1910 and February, 15th 1916 (12 awards). The 3th model (with enamaled arms and a bird in the center instead of the rose) of the Leopold-Order with the crown was awarded between July, 3th 1915 and November, 11th 1918 18 times... The statutes were changed 4 times...quite confusing.... Greetings Solomon
