      A pre-Rakosi communique/letter dated 12 December 1946, hand signed, from AVO Lt. Colonel Dr. Aladar Gyuris, Deputy Division Chief, to Miklos Hulenyi stating the following: "My dear Friend! I took steps regarding your request. Your case is currently under investigation. Unless any special problems arise, the permit will be issued to you. Yours Sincerely," First, the letter as a whole:

      Charles, Which piece(s) and what aspect are you interested in? If you mean the AVH Medals, the ribbons appear lighter here than they are- shot in open shade and edited (using Corel Photo-paint) for the detail in the medal itself. The ribbon is actually a deep "cherry" red.

      Here's a cased, late numbered (6064) example. The mini is not numbered indicating a) the minis were no longer being numbered at this point, or b) an un-numbered mini has been substituted. A pretty nice badge, all in all, but has taken a bit of a rap on the right end of the red banner.

      A couple of detail images of the Rakosi piece. Also note that the star is not exactly "square" to the background.

      A couple of Police cap badges. I believe the one to the left is a Rakosi period piece- two piece construction with hot enamel. The one to the right may be a Kadar period transition piece; still two piece but with cold enamel (granted this is difficult to tell from photos- much easier if handling the piece). Later, the blue of the background would become darker and the badge would be one piece.

      Upon closer inspection of the Bronze grade, you'll notice that a Gold grade star has been attached to the Bronze grade wreath. Those who own Charles' book will have seen this same treatment applied to a Police Service Medal (1951).

      A couple of AVH Service Medals; a Silver grade and Bronze grade to go with the Gold grade I already have.

      These next three badges are all post '71 brass badges from three different academies. As they look virtually the same from the back as the Dimitrov badge, I've chosen not to show that aspect with these. The first is a G.S. Rakovski Defense and Staff College badge...

      Just got this document that I'd like to share. Don't know exactly how rare one of these is; I doubt it's easy to come by. It's an AVH document promoting Istvan Dercze to First Lieutenant, dated the 1st of January 1950. Of note is Lt. General Gabor Peter's signature, which is by hand. I'll begin with the whole document.

      Thought I'd start a thread on these lovely things and invite all who have them to post. I'll start with a G. Dimitrov Artillery Academy graduate badge. It's post '71 (newer seal). What's interesting about this piece is that it is apparently silver (instead of brass)- most of the gilt is gone (except for an area of the back). Nice and heavy. Maybe a transitional variant?
