    1. Looking at the bar in more detail...it appears that the EK II, KvK II and Ost medal are most definitely Steinhauer and Luck made products...from deductions made in there design features, i.e. the fonts used in the "9's" in the "1939" on the KvK and the design feet/head of the eagle on the Ost Medal all point to St u L designs......as well as the frame/core details on the EK. As these are St u L products, it is more than likely the remainder are too, as the firm made most of the 57er range and BRD awards. Prost ! Steve.
    2. Ulsterman...what a fantastic 57er ribbon bar ! looks to be WW2 vet that went on to be a firemen post war.......if only I could find something like that at a flea market ! stunning set ! Prost ! Steve.
    3. Uwe...Thanks for your reply, that would make sense. Prost ! Steve.
    4. Uwe, thanks for your reply....IMO the cap is 1962, but it is of the pattern of 55-62...The piping looks to been added post production and was not put there during manufacture, as it must of been part the last year of the early visors, as in 1962 piping was added to these caps during manufacture as per regulations, so my question is...was this type of customizing done around the transition from early style caps to the next generation of caps, 62 to 1970 ? or is a one off ? Prost ! Steve.
    5. Gentlemen, received this cap, Panzer, piped in pink, dated 1962......when bought, from the sellers photographs it appeared to be a 1962-1970 version of the visor cap worn by EM/NCO's, but upon receipt, and closer examination, it is infact an earlier version, an NCO's 1955-1962, it has been upgraded to the 1962 regulations (no piping on 55-62 versions) by the addition of pink piping, it appears to have been hand stiched to the crown and band areas, see photographs, it appears to be well done, tailored ?.....has anyone seen this done before, was this done ? it is a rather large size a 63 ! perhaps the former owner upgraded to keep up with "fashion".....your comments will be greatly appreciated. Prost ! Steve. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_03_2013/post-7645-0-53085400-1363879147.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_03_2013/post-7645-0-81577700-1363879171.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_03_2013/post-7645-0-13229600-1363879224.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_03_2013/post-7645-0-46129300-1363879245.jpg

    7. To compare here is my recently obtained early "Flugzeugfuhrerabzeichen" 1957-60 period.....St u L made piece. Prost ! Steve. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_03_2013/post-7645-0-64899400-1363468560.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_03_2013/post-7645-0-26611300-1363468599.jpg
    8. An early photograph of a Luftwaffe NCO......note the anti-partisan badge. Prost ! Steve.
    9. Hi Uwe...your above statement is quite true,in the post I generalised, as to keep the it to a minimum, sorry....I have heard many stories of people trying to buy 57er's from shops in Germany, but being refused as they could not produce any confirmation of the award they wished to purchase....I guess unofficially some shop owners tried to regulate the flow ! Prost ! Steve.
    10. Gentlemen, with reference to 1957 awards....the Federal regulations state/set out a criteria of design and construction, they were then made by various medal makers of old in Germany...they were never re-awarded but were purchased by a veteran, on production of proof of winning the award, i.e. certificate/soldbuch, but literal translation of the regulations meant that any piece/award constructed to the designs set out in that law were 1957 awards ! even if manufactured in a tool shed in China ! However, collectors view the awards made in Germany as legitimate 57 pieces, especially the early versions....details on the awards can identify known makers, such as St u L, Junkers, Deumer, Deschler etc.......by the late 1960's only St u L were left as sole producers of these awards...and continue right up to today offering awards to the collector, these pieces are generally inferior to their earlier brothers...because of demand, the reproducers have got in on the act, replicas/repros what ever you wish to call them are now made worldwide....from Canada to China ! Prost ! Steve.
    11. Gordon, as far as I am aware, there were no marking of boxes or of awards, other than the wartime "4" (St u L) marking on left over WW2 parts such as the suspension ring (on very early EK II's) Deumers L/11 & "3" also being used, until stocks ran out and new parts were supplied/made (with no markings)....if 57er boxes are mm then I assume left over WW2 stock, or reproduction, in the late 50's & throughout the 60's St u L pieces were, but not all, marked with a small "o" it is not known the meaning of this mark (other than it being attributed to St u L) I have a late RK with box, no markings, other than "800" (silver content) on the cross. Prost ! Steve.
    12. Sorry to say but it is a fake.....modern made, and yes although conforming to 57' regulations as to design, there are now fakes being made in China and Canada, and no doubt Germany... it is not what collectors wish to include in their collections, all modern/late made 57er's are/were made by the German firm of "Steinhauer und Luck", whose trademark on their pieces is a bevelled edge around the inside of the wreath....it is not there on this piece...the crude engraving has been done both to enhance its value and desirability ! Prost ! Steve.
    13. Gents a recently purchased Generalleutnant tunic, very light grey lightweight pure wool jacket, heavily embroidered insignia, late 70's early 80's ? sporting a ribbon bar as shown in the photographs...my question is, when did the metal slider type bars come into vogue/fashion...I ask as the ribbon bar on this tunic is not of the usual 1957 construction, it is of the type above, again see photograph....is this bar acceptable on this tunic or is it a modern made up piece ! Prost,Steve.http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2012/post-7645-0-28113800-1349994853.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2012/post-7645-0-92058400-1349994869.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2012/post-7645-0-63133000-1349994888.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2012/post-7645-0-23013100-1349994910.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2012/post-7645-0-98834500-1349994928.jpg
    14. Thanks for the information and photographs (nice LW tunic !) the photograph of the collar piping made me look a lot closer at mine...my eyesight is not so good as it once was (Diabetic), and guess what, I had missed some loose threads at the rear and on one side of the collar, I am now convinced that my tunic had the "Altgold" piping originally, sorry for the wrong original diagnosis ! Hope I have not wasted too much of your time.......I have in the past month picked up an Officers (Oberst Lt) version of this tunic and a three row buttoned Affenjacke, enlisted man's version, thankfully they are complete ! I doubt I will be able to replace the missing piping, as an old length of such piping will be almost impossible to find. Thanks for your help, Prost ! Steve.
    15. Gents....Despite the faux pas, I still would not mind his tunic in my collection ! Prost ! Steve.
    16. Gentlemen, soon after posting this query, I found and purchased the real thing...here it is... Prost ! Steve. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2012/post-7645-0-45796100-1344256218.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2012/post-7645-0-21678000-1344256234.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2012/post-7645-0-85933700-1344256252.jpg
    17. Gents, my example of the fledgeling BW's first model dress tunic....the "Ausgehanzug" a double breasted four row buttoned , two pocket dress tunic for NCO'S mit Portapee and Officers...this example is for an Unteroffizier of the Feldzuegtruppe. Manufactured in November 1957, and looks to be upgraded around mid 1957 with Litzen collar patches and tresse around the shoulder straps, prior to this date U.S. style metal insignia was worn. Regulations I believe specified that this style of tunic was worn by NCO's of the rank of Unteroffizier mit portapee and above, with the addition of "Altgold" piping to the collar...this example is clearly below that rank and has never had such piping attached, which I understand could be hand stiched in place ! so an anomoly ? or a clear disregard for the regulations ? are we are talking in terms of a very short time period in which regulations could of been misunderstood or neglected ? your thoughts Gentlemen..... Prost ! Steve. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2012/post-7645-0-96274500-1343816371.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2012/post-7645-0-82528500-1343816394.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2012/post-7645-0-81015700-1343816416.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2012/post-7645-0-26284200-1343816434.jpg
    18. Gordon, thanks for your reply, and for making enquiries with regards to this marking...... a great piece of information, I have never heard of this firm, and had, quite wrongly, assumed it was another location of the Hans Romer firm ! Thanks again..Prost ! Steve.
    19. Thanks for that Uwe......I suspected as much ! Prost ! Steve.
    20. Gentlemen, further to the above.....Having made some enquiries, could it be a pre July 1956 Unteroffizier cap ? (It did come with an Unteroffizier Affenjacke) it has the so called "Teller" shape as opposed to oval of the post July 56' caps....... Your opinions valued...Prost ! Steve.
    21. Gents, can any one identify this cap, is it even German ?...came with a November 1956 made Affenjacke, the seller threw it in as a freebie, only found it when unpacking the jacket !....is it early BW ? it is exactly the right shade grey blue as the jacket, but I must admit the peak does not look of typical German in construction.....so if anyone can give me a clue to its origin, I would be most grateful. Prost ! Steve. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2012/post-7645-0-41301800-1343146094.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2012/post-7645-0-53794500-1343146113.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2012/post-7645-0-54095100-1343146132.jpg
    22. Gordon, no vent hole on the left side...my other liner is marked, but sadly unreadable, this too has no vent... as far as I am aware they (M56) do not have a vent hole as you show in your photograph.....see attached photographs of my two liners, left...one with shell...right.....liner with out shell. Prost ! Steve. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2012/post-7645-0-41236200-1342788493.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2012/post-7645-0-47580200-1342788514.jpg
    23. Gents...my latest purchase, it has taken me two years to find one ! a Model 1956 Bundeswehr steel helmet and liner, U.S. M1 style....marked on inside of shell "F.W.Q. 56 34" which I believe is for the maker " F.W.Quist " made in 1956, lot number 34. The shell is in great shape with no damage or dings, as is often the case with these helmets as they were manufactured from low grade steel and were easily dented ! the liner is virtually the same as a U.S. M1 except the nape strape is not removable...it to is maker marked " HRS-Gr Umst. 56", I think this for the company of Hans Romer, if anyone can shed light on this marking, please tell...the liner was also made in 1956. All in all I am very pleased with it, it has filled a gap in my collection....now to find an Affenjacke ! Prost ! Steve. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2012/post-7645-0-34458900-1341949530.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2012/post-7645-0-22967600-1341949547.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2012/post-7645-0-26072100-1341949566.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2012/post-7645-0-86808200-1341949582.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2012/post-7645-0-15941400-1341949601.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2012/post-7645-0-17371000-1341949617.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2012/post-7645-0-83593200-1341949635.jpg
    24. Looks like an excellent publication ! a must have, for the early Bundeswehr lover ! where can I get a copy ? Prost ! Steve.
