    1. thanks all for the amazing information!!! Its nice to know this guy had a bit of history besides slaving over a cooking pot and eating a bit too much... I have to wonder why he left/got moved from the lancers to the catering corp though. Maybe his fitness has been a long running issue during his service?
    2. Hi Hugh, Thanks for posting all these up. I hope you don't mind if I add to this thread? I don't recall spotting this one in your collection over the last few pages. Enjoy: according to www.medal-medaille.com (copyrighted), the medal is awarded for Long Service Medal for 25 years' service awarded to members of the National Guard The one in my collection is the second class, so most likely, it would of been for 15 years or something. Apologies over the size of the photos!!!!
    3. Thanks guys. Unfortunately I won't be visiting singapore. My trip is limited ot KL and Mauritius. Thanks anyways and appreciate the additional info on the order of jahore
    4. Thanks hugh. I'll see how I go. Might give megan a yell as well as she was the one who provided the pretty pictures over at OMSA of the medals
    5. Hi guys. I'm off to KL in Malaysia this year for a little holiday. With the fiancee stretching up for some serious shopping, I thought I would try and hunt down some Malaysian ODM. I was hoping if anyone could give advice regarding on where to look or if I should be weary of any laws regarding trying to bring a medal home. I am really hoping to try and get my hands on a Order of the Crown of Jahore. Will I have any chance? Any help on locations and maybe even some ball park prices would be greatly appreciated!!!!
    6. wow. I love the blade. great buy!!! Wish I could get a proper sword for my collection at that amount! lucky you :-)
    7. hey kapten, I believe there is a similar bar running around on the net to a u-boat commander. I do believe he had the same medal but at the end of the bar. But yes, I would like to know the answer too!!! I was just thinking today that it would be a fun project to make up some bars of people who have won thai awards along with their other medals (more a excuse to collect different medals whilst presenting my thai collection ;-) )
    8. hi guys. thankyou so much for your replies. I greatly appreciate your thoughts. Dieter, you make very sound advice. Even replacing the ribbon with the correct ribbon, I'm technically falsifing the award and moving even further away from the original state. Well, I have the price data you nicely put up on the forum. So I will have a hunt on YJA for a while and see if a complete 4th set appears and go for it Thanks once again guys for pointing a new collector in the right direction. It will be a better idea to save the money, save up and head towards a complete set. Thankls
    9. hi dieter, thanks for your comment I do agree, but most 4th class awards come in at way over my budget. I did notice a nice 5th class on the site as a complete set at around the right price, but with the 4th class still coming in cheaper, I thought I would go for it. Plus, I plan on framing the award, so I'm not too worried about the case - although I realise it hurts my chances in the future if I plan to sell and upgrade to a more complete award.
    10. Hi guys. I saw this 4th class today on the net and was hoping to get your thoughts on it. I'm well aware that it has the wrong ribbon, with no box and the darkness of the photo makes it hard to see if the rays are golden or silver. any help and opinons would be greatly appreciated before I put in the cash for it. P.S. anyone know where I could get the proper ribbon for this? I'm guessing the OMSA ribbon bank? are e-bay ribbons generally ok?
    11. Hi everyone. just wondering if any collectors here have bidded on the ESC auction house. Its a massive pain to register (you need to supply three references or pay 25% of your bid in advance....) So just wondering if anyone has used them and gotten through the registration ok. Apart from this, is there any current bidders in ESC that would be willing to help a fellow collector out with bidding for a few items thankyou
    12. Thanks Dave !!! And thanks for the photos as well
    13. Hi Hugh, As previously noted, I was originally posting from my phone, so couldn't link. Here is the award here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&_rdc=1&item=330493065298&si=IpFNuUbAUe6fWD%252BztnazFum50mA%253D&viewitem= apologies for not posting it earlier as previously noted, I have seen this type of medal with different images of ladies, suggesting a class system or maybe just a image of the sweet heart
    14. Hi all. eBay has been coming up with a few medals lately called Thailand lady in waiting Research on the Thai government website did not find anything nor a search on good old google Can any Thai collector here shed some light on the award? Is it some kind of sweet heart medal? I'm sure I have noticed a few different ones though which may lend to different classes or time periods Sorry I can't post Picts since I'm posting from my phone, but the eBay number for the latest award is 330493065298
    15. Hi folks, Mervyn suggested a I post this one up here for you guys to enjoy. I am also looking for help on any medals missing from the group (I'm assuming I'm just missing the france and germany star) Please enjoy #edit# quick addition to say I just clarified he was a cook, Group B. Class 3 Discharged after failing fitness requirements. The back of his discharge certificate has a reference from someone. apologies for no medal reverse. Its not engraved though Feel free to ask for more photos!

      unbelievable

yea it is bad to see the fakes there. Really appreciate people pointing them out!!! (shame they didn't have any high thai awards though..hahah)

      unbelievable

hi alex thankyou for posting a link to these rare awards. I heartedly agree. where DO they get them from? Full sets with box and the lot. beautiful....and expensive :-D
    18. yeeesh. reconstructing that group would be a one way stop to bankruptcy considering the grand cordons weigh in around 7 grand or so (well, for the rising sun at least) and assuming all the third classes come in at at least $150 each..... well thats a lot of dough right there :-) I hate to think how heavy that vest would be!!!
    19. I'm not sure. I'll let the other members comment. I have heard bad comments regarding ths site though...
    20. well Icna't comment on the medals - but I'm afraid they have already sold. Just checked the website now. So even if they are good, sorry to say you missed out :-(
    21. hey, did you check out the link I put up? what you think of those books?

    22. Hi Chris, the book I mention is here: http://www.ormedec.com/ egypt is in part two. due out very soon While not toally dedicated to egypt, it will be covering quite a few medals I imagine.
