    1. Hi Pat, As promised, here's mine: [attachmentid=43004][attachmentid=43005] Along with a few friends. This first is from the Winterhilfswerk: [attachmentid=43006][attachmentid=43007] Dan
    2. Hi Pat, Here's mine... sorry it took me so long to post. One difference is that it's gold and not silver. [attachmentid=42999] [attachmentid=43000] Perhaps civilian workers in the Kreigsmarine? Dan
    3. [attachmentid=42994] [attachmentid=42995] [attachmentid=42996] And the thing that grows off the end of the bayo... [attachmentid=42997] [attachmentid=42998] I don't know a whole lot re: manufacturers, etc. on mine. I've actually got two Arisaka's but one has been sporterized. I'll probably go post the rifles over in the firearms section. Great bayo! They have a certain simplistic beauty but then again so do most Japanese edged weapons. It's no wonder they loved them so much. Thanks, Dan
    4. Hi Joel, Ahhh, I see why I didn't get notified. You made a separate post. So the system hasn't failed me after all. Beautiful piece! And in excellent shape. And yes, they are sharp. I've yet to handle a Japanese bayonet that wasn't. They took great price in their blades and were one of the few nations at that point in time to really consider the bayonet a "main" weapon of their arsenal. Anyhow, felt I'd better take mine out for a spin too. [attachmentid=42990] [attachmentid=42991] [attachmentid=42992] [attachmentid=42993]
    5. Hi Spotter, Many thanks for the info. Any ideas on value on either of these? I'm trying to give them as much info on everything I post as possible. Thanks, Dan
    6. Hi Dan, Much appreciate the additional info. I actually have two of the early stahlhelms but without any liner. So was sort of familiar with them but figure all the details I can get for them, the better. Just out of curiosity, any opinions that I can pass on re: values on either this or the cap? Am trying to be as thorough as I can on anything I post from the museum as they are totally in the dark on all this stuff. Thanks! Dan
    7. Hi JB, Really appreciate the info. Again it's probably more than they've ever known about it other than who it was originally awarded to. Next time I go over I'm going to try to remember to take my loop so I can read that makers mark. We searched all over and could not find a magnifying glass and I'd forgotten to take the loop. My poor eyes are not what they used to be... and to be honest they never really were. And to think, I was going to take up the additional sideline of watchmaking along with my collecting of pocket watches. Don't think they're much of a chance of that happening now. Just can't see the details anymore. I'll pop on more info as I can find out. There's a meeting there this coming Tuesday and barring major disaster I'm planning to go. Just depends on how many people show up and how late they'll all be there. I'm hoping at some point to be getting a key and if so then I'll be able to just go over whenever I need to. Thanks again, Dan
    8. Hi Chris, hi Tony, Thanks for taking a look. So, I take it the helmet (most likely) and the gas mask are both British? I'd have never known! That's definitely something I'll put on my report. As far as being able to do "whatever" I've basically got carte blanche. I'm an assistant curator over there more or less. Things are very loose for the most part. I've "sat" at the museum and given the tours, etc. And when no one is coming in I've got all the time in the world to go through, check things out, do pics, you name it. So yes, be happy to check out anything ya'll need to know, see, etc. If you could do me a favor... if you happen to know even rough values on any museum stuff I have or will post and could let me know I'd deeply appreciate. As it is they're now getting a couple of vehicles appraised that were donated to them... a Model T truck and roadster. But I know there's no way they can get any of the militaria appraised. I believe they're doing it for insurance purposes to make sure that everything is adequately covered. Probably hasn't been done since Lincoln was President! And of course the more information I can give them on stuff, I suspect the more they'll start to pull out from storage, etc. Plus if I ever need to being something home to scan (once I have a scanner), etc. it'll be no problem... although it probably wouldn't be now. But I figure the more I can do for them the better. Not to mention that the more accurate the displays and info the better we can inform the public at large when they come to visit. Mucho thanks! Dan
    9. Thanks. This one is quite old... not sure what they've got nowadays. I'm sure it's comparable to all the other states. I'm assuming the one I posted is probably from the turn of the century up through the 20's/30's or thereabouts. Was actually hoping someone on here might know more. It's waaaaaaay outside of my fields of interest. Dan
    10. Hi Chip, Wow! Ya'll never cease to amaze me! Many thanks! Definitelly a huge help! This is more info then they've had on this, or anything else military in their collection for probably forty to fifty years! And that's exactly what I was hoping for. I'll make up reports for them on each object everyone comments on and I'll submit them periodically for addition to their records as well as redoing descriptions for the displays. Thanks!!!! Dan
    11. Hi Chip, Believe me, I like it too! Have for twenty some odd years since the first time I came up here and saw it. It's a beauty... and as I say in excellent shape. I'll see if I can put it on one of their manaquin's heads, assuming it will fit on one, next time I get the chance and get some decent pics all around it. Problem is it's sat flat in a case for so long. I'm hoping I can persuade them to pick up a head for it as I think having it mounted on one will get it back in shape and will look much better too. I've never been able to add one to my collection, but if I could I'd love it to be one just like that. Also hoping perhaps one of the members will be able to give me more info on it based on the cockades, waffenfarbe, etc. Thanks for taking a peek and glad you liked it. Dan
    12. And the bigger of the two: [attachmentid=42921] [attachmentid=42922] [attachmentid=42923] [attachmentid=42924] Any additional info on these would be deeply appreciated. Thanks, Dan
    13. Hi all, Here's a couple of WWI shell's brought back by local vets and in our museum's collection ever since. First the smaller of the two:
    14. Hi all, First off, I have to once again thank Tom Y. for generously donating a ribbon for our museum's 2nd class. Ever since it was bought back as a souvenir from WWI it's sat bare and lonely. No one there even realized it was missing a ribbon. Needless to say I think she looks much better now, all dressed up and everyone there the day I presented it fell in love with it. [attachmentid=42914] [attachmentid=42915] [attachmentid=42916] [attachmentid=42917] There are no maker's marks that I could detect. But of course any additional information would be deeply appreciated. Thanks, Dan
    15. And a gasmask with cannister: [attachmentid=42909] [attachmentid=42910] [attachmentid=42911] [attachmentid=42912]
    16. Here's an enlisted man's cap which seems to be very complete and in excellent condition. [attachmentid=42907] [attachmentid=42908]
    17. Hi all, These are in our local museum collection: [attachmentid=42903] [attachmentid=42904] [attachmentid=42905] [attachmentid=42906]
    18. Hi all, These are also in our local museum collection... a doughboy helmet and gasmask. [attachmentid=42900] [attachmentid=42901] [attachmentid=42902] I hope to add more pieces of U.S. militaria in our holdings over time, including not only WWI but also WWII, Korea, etc. Dan
    19. Hi all, Here's a piece from our local museum collection... a North Dakota National Guard 6 Year Faithful Service medal in it's original box. [attachmentid=42898] [attachmentid=42899] Dan
    20. Hi all, I hope to get more shots of this little book at some point after I get a scanner. But I wanted to post these in the hopes that someone could translate. I'm hoping it's the name of the original owner As soon as I can do scans I'll try to see about borrowing the book for a day or so and doing scans. But just in going through it that day it showed combat with small arms, bayonets, swords as well as what appeared to be training for Kendo. [attachmentid=42895] [attachmentid=42896] [attachmentid=42897]
    21. [attachmentid=42893] [attachmentid=42894] Again this is just a very small portion of their collection of militaria, much of it U.S. but as you've seen some excellent German items as well. They also have some WWII items and some earlier pieces. I do hope some of you will someday be able to come for a visit and take a tour. I think you'd enjoy it. We'd love to have you. Thanks, Dan
    22. We're hoping to redo the case soon and add another so things won't be quite so crowed. Would love to redo some of the labels, adding whatever information can be gathered on each item. How I'd love to have each and every one of you come and take a tour and help to sort it all out. Well, I saved what I think is the best for last. An Imperial German regimental pipe which looks to me to be extremely complete and in excellent condition. Any info on this would be deeeeeeply appreciated. [attachmentid=42887] [attachmentid=42888] [attachmentid=42889] [attachmentid=42890] [attachmentid=42891] [attachmentid=42892]
    23. Again... although not German, here's a North Dakota National Guard Long Service medal... [attachmentid=42884] [attachmentid=42885] And the display in the case... [attachmentid=42886]
    24. And a bigger shell... [attachmentid=42879] [attachmentid=42880] [attachmentid=42881] [attachmentid=42882]
