Hi Gordon, the R.P.R. model can be seen here:- http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=20736 I have had no confirmation with exactly who in the crew would have got these, but, I still surmise that the driver, loader, commander, would have had to pass specific tests, the same as those in communications for example before getting a higher grade or classification, probably in order for promotion of rank. Recently I had some of my militaria which had been in storage in Ireland delivered to my home in Transylvania, in amongst it was this piece:- I was given this by a Senegalese member of the U.N.I.F.I.L. Mission way back in 1979 while in South Lebanon, however, I believe the insignia is not specific for the U.N.I.F.I.L. Mission itself. While U.N. referes to United Nations the "M.O." might refer to "Military / Mission Observers" does anybody know if Senegalese troops took part in any African Continent Missions particularly the handing in or de-commissioning of weapons? Brass and plastic "enamel" construction. Size:- 45mm X 35mm Kevin in Deva.

Hallo Merv, If the chap was at least 18 when he got the 1879 Zulu award would he not have been 48 in 1909 so by WW2 he would have been 78+ in 1939 and was the Indian Service Medal not only issued to officers and men for three years non-operational service in India, effectively replacing the Defense Medal in respect of the Indian Forces? Either some type of a cleaning agent, possibly applied by the owner in service, or a reaction from the metal and dye applied to the ribbon, in my honest opinion its a sign of a genuine item. Its not to detracting from the item, by the way what was it issued for? Kevin in Deva. :beer:

I have come across tobacco leaf being used in country areas of Transylvania. It is placed between the folds of sheets and woolen blankets and the traditional costumes, while in storage. and it's not as repugnant as expelled tobacco smoke the other alternative is camphor balls. The Medal with the crescent is a Turkish Red Crescent award. The Red Crescent being Turkey's version of the Red Cross. Kevin in Deva. :beer:

Even if a Diplomat, but as a Romanian, I find it strange that he wears the Czech award first in the row of awards, when most country's protocol dictates you wear your own national awards first and foreign after. As you state he is wearing the Romanian Order of the Crown of Romania, Civil model on blue and white ribbon. And the Romanian Commemorative medal for Carol I. Kevin in Deva. :beer:

I was going through some of my militaria items that had just been brought from my brothers attic in Ireland to my home in Transylvania, when I found this, I thought I had lost it,but it was inside a cap liner band! I presume its from a set, anybody got others to show? Kevin in Deva.
