Republic of Ireland Modern Irish Defence Force Awards
Kev in Deva replied to Ceallach's topic in Northern European & Baltic States
Hallo Paul I agree with your post above, the only other reason I could imagine is the First Class award is being held in Reserve for an officer rank, should he ever make the ultimate sacrifice. Another anomaly in my opinion is the fact that Reserve Defence Force personnel get a "21" year bar to add to their service medals, whereas the Regulars get no such bar. More penny-pinching to save cash? Kevin in Deva. -
Hallo Paddywhack, getting back to the original item that was posted on the thread, Its a homemade jobby, this would have never have been worn on a uniform, since the ribbons are purely commemorative for an ex soldier, either of the Regulars or Reserve Defence Forces. Nice to see all the same. Kevin in Deva.

EK 1914 Iron Crosses Discovered:
Kev in Deva replied to Ulsterman's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
Say "Pretty please with sugar on it!" If you are referring to the original newspaper story, many items in the WW1 era newspapers of the day did not have accompanying pictures. Kevin in Deva  -

Inside:- Basically this notation is about the information contained in the Livret being removed from the records as the soldier having reached the mandatory age for retirement, according to C.M.O.B. his unit is located in the area of STALIN* * STALIN was the post WW2 Communist name for BRASOV.
