Daniel Murphy Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 (edited) I am not really a fan of the post '39 made 1914 EK1s, but recently this one said "Buy me." I liked the nice details on the cast iron core. It has a plated neusilber frame and the generic WW2 type screwback also in plated neusilber. What looks like brass is actually tarnish. The cross is totally unmarked. Does anyone have an indication of who the maker was? Obverse.Dan Murphy Edited August 19, 2006 by Daniel Murphy
DavidM Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 HelloI can't be absolutely certain, but this looks like it may be by Klein und Quenzer, manufacturer '65' during WW2.A nice cross either way.
Daniel Murphy Posted August 19, 2006 Author Posted August 19, 2006 David, Thanks it does look very close to a K&Q. Here is a montage of a 65 marked '39 and my '14. what do you all think.Dan Murphy
joe campbell Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 dan-i very much like the cross!wish i could posit a maker...the thing that strikes me is the widthof the frame, and as i recall, that wouldsupport the K&Q.good find!joe
Bill Garvy Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 (edited) Judging by its fuller shape I would agree, a World War II manufactured Imperial Iron Cross in 1st Class. I am glad to see someone else has a passion for these "hybrids". Here are some of mine: "click here". Edited August 19, 2006 by Bill Garvy
ekhunter Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 [attachmentid=50767][attachmentid=50768]I've got one just like Daniels' These really are unigue crosses. Bill, this is the one that I told you about that a family friend took off of a German soldier in N. Africa. I've got the cross displayed in a case with the family friend's dog tags. Makes it even more unigue to me.
ekhunter Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 [attachmentid=50779][attachmentid=50780]Larger, but fuzzy pictures of the same.
