Robert Noss
Found that photo today on a fleamarket. At home I looked closely to the spike-helmet and found it strange. Looks like there is a cockade or a hole in the middle of the eagle.Maybe it is just a photographic irritation, strange from this angle, but I can not remember to have seen that type of helmet before.and the detail of the helmet:Any comments are welcome as always.Robert

Robert Noss
Thanks to all for the informations.I did knew the Garde-helmets but on this photo it looked so "exaggerated" to me.Kind regardsRobert
dwmosher
Robert:The wappen seems a bit "exaggerated" because this is officer was from either the 1st Batallion or the Regimental Staff of the 1. Garde-Regt. zu Fuss. which had the SEMPER TALIS bandaeu above the plate and a fluted spike. All of the fittings (including the chinscales) are in silver. Here is a drawing from Didier Laine's reference book 'The German Army 1914".RegardsDave
