Stuart Bates Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) A grey cloth to the Eton Volunteer Rifles - Edited February 20, 2010 by Stuart Bates
Stuart Bates Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) It came with the corresponding pillbox cap and makes a nice combo. Apologies for the quality of the images but I stopped trying to master Photoshop when I met my friend Nick who is a pro photographer. Edited February 19, 2010 by Stuart Bates

Stuart Bates Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 An 1855 pattern shako to the 9th Regiment of Foot. I don't much care for infantry shakos except for the bell top but some of the cavalry/yeomanry ones are superb.
Stuart Bates Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 Speaking of Cavalry/Yeomanry shakos I bought this one years ago from Blunderbuss. They didn't know what unit it belongs to and I haven't been able to ID it either. Haven't thought about it for a long time so will have to try again. Anyone any ideas?
servicepub Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Stuart, Some beautiful additions, well done.
Stuart Bates Posted February 20, 2010 Author Posted February 20, 2010 This is a Wolseley to an Aide-de-Camp. Inside are the remains of a paper label which had the name of the owner but which has been torn out. The storage/transit tin which came with it has had the brass owner's name plate removed. I guess that the family did not want to be known when selling it. However, the seller will let me have the details when a relative of the ADC dies. A bit much in this day and age I think. Note the graduated chinchain. I have never seen this on a Wolseley before but I have on a Colonial pattern helmet. Note also the red over white swan feather plume which indicates either an ADC or a Military Secretary. General and Staff officers had a white over red plume.
Mike Dwyer Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 A grey cloth to the Eton Volunteer Rifles - Great, Stuart! I really love that one!

pjac Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Stuart These forage caps are excellent! More, please. Just heard that we're about to be invited to a wedding in Melbourne in August. Not sure if we'll be going, given distance, cost and time, but, if we do, I'd love to see your collection 'in the flesh'. Patrick
Stuart Bates Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Patrick, you are more than welcome to visit the collection if you make it to Melbourne (actually about 1 hour 30 minutes out of Melbourne). Stuart
Stuart Bates Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 OK, some more forage caps. This one is a Royal Engineers'

Stuart Bates Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) Clive, if I adopted you then Afghanistan would be out! Thanks, Brian. I am in a buying mood but not much out there at the moment. Stuart Edited February 24, 2010 by Stuart Bates
Stuart Bates Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) You Canadians have forced me into it so here are a few more - plenty more to come but... A rather nice cap to the Army Medical Staff Corps or the Royal Army medical Corps (1898). Edited February 24, 2010 by Stuart Bates

pjac Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Stuart Depending upon how much of a buying mood you are in a Lincolnshire Imperial Yeomanry lance cap might appeal. EBAY UK no.260558929000. Patrick
Stuart Bates Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 Patrick, thanks for that. I am now watching it. I suspect that we should be using PMs for this type of message. Stuart
