VtwinVince Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Gentlemen,Has anyone read Peter Hofschroer's book "Wellington's Smallest Victory"? I found it very interesting and reinforced my notion that history has underplayed the role of the Prussians at La-Belle-Alliance.
Nick Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Hofschroer likes to to be controversial in his books on Waterloo, its how he sells them and had gained his reputation. I am not convinced by some of his arguments, they make for an interesting read, but I feel he is so biased towards the Prussians that some areas needed to be treated warily.
VtwinVince Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 You could be right, but in light of his pedigree as a historian, and the fact that 19th century England allowed Wellington practical carte blanche in promoting his version of the battle, I think he has some justification in his findings.
