    Cuff title "1936 SPANIEN 1939"

    Hello,

I got few pics of this guy. He is wearing the cuff title "1936 spanien 1939". He wears also the cloth badge for signal specialist and a "L" on his shoulder straps. I can't see exactly the piping color, but it looks too dark to be yellow, so I think it's a panzer piping, for the Panzer Lehr Regiment of which the members were entitled to wear this cuff band. Scott Prichett wrote a good stuff about that band on WAF.

Hope you will show your band and photos.

Here is an uniform with the cuff title. The pic was taken few years ago to the Panzermuseum in Munsterlager.

    Best, Sal

I would like to get one too. Even though it was not worn by the LC members, it's a beautiful piece.

So this was a "tradition" insignia and NOT a campaign award like the "Kreta" or "Afrika" cuff titles? The bridegroom has NO Spanish Civil War awards-- he wan't even THERE!!!

Yes Rick, It was a traditional badge in memory of the Army branches who fought in Spain. The pictured guy was not in Spain.

I can write something about the cuff title but it'll be a copy of Scott Prichett WAF article.

For those who areinterested by this topic, an excellent thread was written by Scott Pritchett on WAF: http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/campaign_a...panish_cuff.htm

    I just summarize some information.

the cufftitle was instituted by an order dated 21 June 1939 to recognize the Army participation to the Spanish civil war. The selected units to carry this tradition cufftitle were the Panzer-Lehr-Rgt, Nachrichten-Lehr-Rgt, the Versuchs-Abt.

As you can see on the pics, the cufftitle has a special red background called "Kapprot" or Madder red as said by Scott, with a metallic gold thread machine woven inscription in old calygraphy. the cufftitle is bordered top and bottom by the same gold thread. The cufftilte is done to measure 32mm wid for 45 lengh.

The "Legion Condor" Luftwaffe cufftitle was a tradition badge too, worn by personnel of the Kampgfeschwader 53, Flakregiment 9 and Luftnachrichten-Regiment 3.

the cuff title "1936-Spanien-1939" were issued for the Army and the "Legion Condor" for the Luftwaffe. Even though both are tradition cuff title, there are not destinated to the same service, and none of them were worn during the SCW but instituted on June 12 1939 for the LW (KG.53, FlakRgt 9, LuftNachRgt 3) and on June 21 1939 for the army (I./Pz.Lehr.Rgt, Nachrichten.Lehr.Abt.). As a tradition badge, all were entitled to wear it, without having taken part to the SCW.
